Admissions, Visit Cards and Memberships (all prices include GST) New Aquatic Membership Program The City of Lethbridge has recently launched new leisure management software. Through this new electronic system, pass holders will need to use a swipe card called a Fun Pass. The Fun Pass can be used to access a number of City facilities including memberships for most pools and skating rinks. Along with the launch of the Fun Pass comes more streamlined pool membership options and a new fee structure. •The recreation pass and the fitness advantage pass options have been combined into one single pass and merged into a new fee structure. • The Fun Pass will give access to three indoor facilities (Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik) along with the Henderson outdoor pool in the summer season. Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. (see rates below).

Family Swim - Swim for Parent/Guardian(s) (1 or 2) with children (17yrs or younger / 18 -21 with valid Student ID) residing permanently in the same household. Note: Parent(s) or Guardian(s) must be in the water with children. Children under the age of 8 years and non-swimmers must be actively supervised within arms reach by a Parent / Guardian.

Open Swim - Unstructured swim that all participants may enjoy Note: Children under the age of 8 years and non-swimmers must be actively supervised within arms reach by a Parent / Guardian.

Senior Swim - Lane Swim for those 60 years of age & older. Note: Must actively particpate in the program by swimming lengths. Please choose the proper lane to swim in based on ability

Weight Room Use - Open to participants 16 years of age & older - Participants 14 - 15 years of age may attend with direct Parent / Guardian supervision - Youth/Children 13 and under are not allowed in the weight room Note: Proper gym attire is required (clean indoor closed toe & heel shoes, shorts or sweats and shirt) Jeans, sandals are not allowed. Safety guidelines must be followed

Registrations can be made by phone or in person - neither method takes precedent over the other Registration is on a first come first served basis Participants may register in a maximum of two (2) classes/session Participants may waitlist in any class Preparing to Register If you do not have an account you will need the following: - Name & birth date of account holder (Adult) - Name & birth date of participants - Home address, phone # and postal code - Program level, session & time. - Course # and alternatives if first choice is full - Payment information incl 3 digit # on credit cards for phone registrations Fees Fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. Cash, Debit, Visa, MC, Rec Ex Gift Card & cheque are accepted in person. Cheques are payable to Recreation Excellence. Post dated cheques are not accepted. A $25 charge will be applied to all NSF cheques. Only Visa & MC are accepted for phone registrations (Visa & MC Debit cards are not accepted)

- Withdrawals received more than ten (10) business days prior to the start of the lesson set or course will not be subject to a withdrawal fee. - Withdrawals made between three (3) and ten (10) business days prior to the lesson start date will be subject to a 10% withdrawal fee. The remaining balance may be left on your account for future use or a refund may be requested. Refunds of less than $5.00 will remain on the account. - You may withdraw and re-register into another program without penalty prior to three (3) business days before the lesson start date. - No refunds will be given if withdrawal is within three (3) business days of the lesson start date.

All transfers are subject to availability and may be made without penalty up to three (3) business days (Mon-Fri) prior to the lesson start date. Transfers made by Recreation Excellence will not incur a penalty. Any resulting increase in program fees due to the transfer must be paid by the customer at the time of transfer.

Medical / Relocation Withdrawals for medical / relocation reasons are permitted with no penalty prior to the lesson start date. Refunds for withdrawal after the lesson start date will result in a pro-rated refund or credit on account. Proof of medical / relocation must be provided within two (2) weeks of notification of withdrawal for refunds or credits to be issued.

Cancellations Programs with insufficient registration are subject to cancellation. Customers will be notified as soon as a decision regarding cancellation has been made. All efforts will be made to accomodate any registrants displaced by cancellations. A full refund or credit to account will be issued for courses cancelled by Recreation Excellence.

Visit Cards / Passes Passes are available in 1, 3, 6 and 12 month terms. Passes are non-transferable which means others cannot use them. Refunds for passes are granted only for medical or relocation reasons. Proof of medical and proof of relocation must be provided in each case for a refund to be issued. All requests must be made before the pass expiry date. Refunds will be pro-rated for the unused portion of the pass. Passes are valid at all pools so extensions will not be granted for Annual Shutdowns. Visit cards are transferable and do not expire. They are non-refundable

Lost or Stolen Cards At the request of the card holder lost or stolen cards will be replaced. A $6.00 lost card fee will apply (does not include GST).

This WSI course covers the foundation of instructional skills including teaching methods, learning styles, planning, teaching and evaluating swimmers. Candidates are evaluated throughout the course and through individual study assignments. ABOUT THE POOLS FAQ’s - Outdoor Shoes in the Facility What are the guidelines for outdoor shoes? 1) We ask that all users of the facility remove their outdoor shoes upon entering the facility - it helps to keep the floors more sanitary especially the change rooms where patrons are barefoot - even when it is dry outside, outdoor shoes often carry in little rocks and grit that are hard on the feet and unsanitary - this grit is also hard on equipment like treadmills etc. - we ask that you leave your shoes on the racks provided or carry them to your locker in the change room & carry them back when you are done - health guidelines prohibit outdoor footwear of any type on the pool deck 2) Options include bringing indoor footwear to change into while in the facility or purchasing a pair of fabric covers that go over your outdoor shoes (these are available at the pool) 3) What about those who don’t wish to remove their shoes? Our policy is to be respectful and ask politely. Most patrons respect the “No Shoes on Deck” policy even if they don’t wish to take their shoes off in the facility Please help us to keep the facilities in great shape by removing your outdoor footwear. The staff and other patrons really appreciate the assistance especially on busy days or days that the weather isn’t the greatest.

Senator James Gladstone Sixty years ago, in 1958, James Gladstone was named to the Canadian Senate as Canadaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s first Indigenous senator.

Gladstone was a member of the Kainai. Prior to being a senator, he worked as a scout and interpreter for the Mounted Police, acted as a mail carrier, and was a farmer and rancher. Senator Gladstone fought for greater respect for treaty rights, better education for Indigenous Canadian and the right of Indigenous people to oversee their own administration. He took the opportunity to give his first speech in the Senate in Blackfoot so that Blackfoot would be part of the official records of the Senate.

In 1959, Senator Gladstone Hall on the Blood Reserve was opened and named for the senator.

Senator Gladstone resigned from the Senate in March 1971 and passed away later that year.

True or False: Should children exercise at their own pace? If you guessed "true," you got it! We know that exercise is great for our physical health, but did you know it is also imperative for learning as well? New research supported by the Universities of Stirling and Edinburgh has looked at the impact of taking short breaks from classroom material to perform physical activity, and how it affects children’s mood and cognitive abilities. One of the researchers explained: “Ultimately, we found that 15 minutes of self-paced exercise can significantly improve a child’s mood, attention and memory - enhancing their ability to learn.” After having 13,149 children between the UK and Scotland sign-up to participate in the research study, there was one major suggestion. This was to encourage children to exercise at their own pace during short breaks from class as this could help improve the desire and readiness to learn when they return to the classroom. This is not to take away from the physical activity guidelines for children of at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity per day. Brain breaks are ideal to keep children stay focused and learning at the highest capacity possible.

It’s Pow-Wow Time 2018 International Peace Pow-wow & Festival The GRAND ENTRY begins every session. It is lead by the flag bearers and dignitaries. The dancers follow according to their categories. This is the most spectacular sight with 300 participants in full regalia, dancing into the arena single file. Then we get into the competitions based on gender, age groups and DANCE STYLES: Junior Girls’, Teen Girls’ and Ladies’ Traditional - Like all dance styles, these have strong roots in customs and traditions. This is a stately dance, slowmoving bouncing step, rhythmic dipping with swaying in time to the beat of the drum. Dresses of buckskin, wool or other material are heavily decorated with beading, quillwork, elk teeth, bone, antler or shells. Junior Boys’, Teen Boys’ and Men’s Traditional has evolved from the well-known “old time Sioux” style of the 1940’s. It is slower with the dancer is said to be re-enacting the movement of a warrior searching for the enemy. Eagle feather bustles; grouse feathers, deer, elk and porcupine headdresses are all part of this wonderful dance. Junior Girls’, Teen Girls’ and Ladies’ Jingle dress dance is said to be a healing dance originating with the Ojibwa. When a man’s granddaughter became very ill, he had a dream that showed him how to make the dress and was instructed to have her dance in it. When the dress was made, she wore it and danced, very weakly at first, but becoming stronger as she went on until she was healed. The jingle dress makes a very distinct sound. Medium tempo.

Jr. Boys’, Teens’ and Men’s Grass - Many believe that the Omaha tribe originated the dance in their warrior societies from the movements of the early scouts preparing a camp site. The scouts would dance in a special way to flatten high grasses. The motion of the dance flows like the rippling prairie grass. Medium tempo. Junior Girls’, Teen Girls’ and Ladies’ Fancy is a faster, more expressive and energetic style. The dance is light, graceful, and very athletic. The dancer moves much like a butterfly, and her outfit is bright and colorful. Particular emphasis is given to the shawl, which is worn over the shoulders and spread out along the arms like wings. Junior Boys’, Teen Boys’ and Men’s Fancy is the most intricate dance with jumps and twirls at the fastest tempo. The regalia is said to represent the rainbow spirits in its bright colors and flying feathers and ribbons. The Men’s Fancy dancer typically wears two bustles of bright colored feathers. Junior Boys’, Teen Boys’ and Men’s Chicken is the Blackfoot dance that has made its way into the Pow-wow circle. Each man wears a porcupine hair roach on his head and a feather bustle. The dancers step quickly, crouch and rise imitating the dance of the prairie chicken.

Mount Crandell Park is a sweet pocket park that is a neighbourhood favorite. A shale trail leads to a great little playground and thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a green space with numerous mature trees for little ones to run around, play hide and seek and burn off some energy. The playground features swings, slides, and exciting climbing structures sure to excite the imagination. The open space is perfect for a game of tag or tossing a ball around with the kids. The shale pathway provides a scenic route for regular exercise enthusiasts or anyone out to explore the neighbourhood. There is ample street parking all around the park making it a great destination for families looking for some variety in their park activities.

Shinny Hockey

Beginner Skate: A slower-paced time for people to practice their skating basics. Skating aids are allowed during this skate. Helmets are recommended. Family Skate: A special time for parents and children (17 yrs. of age & under) to enjoy a skate together. Parent & Tot Skate: Free Fun time for parents & pre-school children to learn how to skate. Helmets are recommended. Public Skate: A skate open to everyone to enjoy. Senior Skate: A skate open for everyone 55 years and over.

Youth Shinny Hockey: For ages 5 to 15 years, shinny hockey is played with a sponge puck with no body contact and no slap shots. Play is on half ice and is coordinated by Ice Marshals. Players require a hockey stick, skates and a helmet. Adult Shinny Hockey: Informal hockey for adults is played with a hard puck with no body contact or slap shots. It is played on full ice and is self-supervised. Protective equipment is required. Senior Shinny Hockey: Senior shinny hockey is for adults 55 and over with no body contact and no slap shots. Protective equipment is required.
