Puerto Rico is a stricken land this morning.

Hit

Floods caught the island with its gua rd down early yesterday, leaving 106 known

dead, more than a thousand injured, and uncounted thousands homeless. The town of Humacao, on the southeast coast, was hardest hit, with 86 dead and

some 200 other persons matssing in that town clone. (See FLOODS, Page 2.)

disaster that struck Puerta Rico yesterday was the densely

populated river's edge of the Humacao river at Humacao on

the southeastern end of the island where surging flood waters devastated a wide swath of houses along the river.with ¢
