In a relatively large footprint between the well-known Montgomery Gibbs-Executive airport to the north and Snapdragon Stadium to the south, Serra Mesa is a blend of residential, business and retail offering both older and newer homes. Perhaps one of its best features is its location directly between the 805 and 15 Freeways directly south of the airport. Serra Mesa public high schoolers attend Kearny Engineering Innovation & Design where they experience a wider course selection than other traditional high schools, including Anthropology, Ethnic Studies and Music Appreciation. KEISD students can earn college credits prior to graduation through dual enrollment at a local community college. There are also charter and private school options in the neighborhood.

In addition to easy access to the peaceful Ruffin Canyon trails, Serra Mesa living means you have your choice of several neighborhood parks. Locals come together for youth sports on ball fields at Cabrillo Heights Park or exercise their dogs on the lawn at the Village at Serra Mesa Community Area. The Serra Mesa Recreation Center offers playgrounds, a gymnasium and sports fields, and the Stadium Golf Center near the 15 Freeway is where locals practice their skills on a 72-station driving range and putting greens.

Within Serra Mesa, local eateries are close by, including Maggie’s Café, as popular for breakfast specials as it is for margaritas and tacos. Or, you can catch the game and play pool at the laid-back Channel 2 Sports Bar. Just north of Serra Mesa, dine at the military-themed 94th Aero Squadron restaurant while watching airplanes take off from Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

Living here, you’re also near several renowned medical facilities such as the Sharp Memorial Hospital in the Birdland neighborhood. Sharp Memorial is the largest hospital in the Sharp Healthcare System and is known for its superlative trauma center. You can run your errands at the shopping center on Greyling Drive where you’ll find a car wash, salons, fast-casual eateries and a CVS. Groceries and essentials are equally convenient at the Walmart or Von’s near Stonecrest.

The Serra Mesa-Kearny Library is within the community, built in 2006 using recycled materials and native plant landscaping. You’re also just a short drive from employment opportunities throughout the Spectrum Center business area just north in Kearny-Mesa.
