ruise ships are far more than a means of transportation. Getting from one point to another is the definition of travel, but when it comes to the open sea, the journey is as adventurous as the destination. Increasing in popularity are ships that have been crafted for a smaller number of guests. These vessels were not designed to appeal to the masses, but rather to encourage more authentic travel.
Windstar Cruises recognizes a similar sentiment. “We like to say that all cruises let you see the world, but only small ships like Windstar bring you close enough so you can experience it,” says the president of the company, Christopher Prelog. “This intimacy provides you with the luxury of time, space, and freedom to immerse yourself in both the journey and the destination.” By 2025, The Ritz-Carlton fleet will include three impressive ships that have been designed to accommodate the most discerning travelers, while hosting less than 500 passengers. This will ensure a relaxed, personal experience. Evrima, the most compact ship — small but mighty — has a 298-guest

The AmaDahlia is a 72-passenger ship that sails the Nile River. On board are Egyptologists, who are trained to illuminate the history and stories that have shaped modern Egypt. Prelog sums it up perfectly, “It’s unpacking once, but still having an in-depth exploration of a destination and the ability to have deep and meaningful interactions with the locals.”
