Our island is 28 miles long and seven miles wide completely surrounded by the Caribbean Sea – isn’t that one of the many reasons we are all lured to visit or move to the US Virgin Islands?

We often receive the request to search for property in a waterfront community where you can walk to a neighborhood beach or live in a community where you can hear the waves rolling in. For those of you that are interested in living in a waterfront neighborhood here are some of our waterfront communities that may interest you.

GREEN CAY

Green Cay, known to some as Miss Bea, is an East End community comprised of waterfront homes, hillside cottages, and a beachfront condo complex. This beachfront community is located just around the corner from Chenay Bay and Cheeseburgers in Paradise. There is a long stretch of sand, great for invigorating beach walks or simply sprawling out under the shade of a palm tree. There are areas where you can walk into the water to rinse off. For our avid snorkelers, there is a beautiful reef just off the shore where you can swim with a school of fish or admire the array of colorful sea fans.

CARDEN BEACH

PERFECT DAY IN PARADISE?

We asked our work family what makes for an ideal day on our beautiful little island. One of the best things about living in St. Croix is the abundance of things to do and stunning sights to see — and we believe that these are only made better by sharing them with others. We can’t wait to share our island favorites with you!

An open air Jeep drive along the beautiful north shore with sunshine and the salt air, stopping at Cane Bay to cool off in the sea and then taking an adventure drive through the rainforest to the beautiful west end beaches to watch the sunset.

I would start the day by hiking Goat Hill to watch the sunrise, nap in my hammock to recover from the early morning, and then make my way west for dinner at Rhythm’s and watching the sunset from Rainbow Beach.

I love to wake up early and walk to Point Udall, the easternmost point of the United States. I pause there for a beauty moment, watching the rising sun glint on the Caribbean. I like to follow that with a walk on a nearby quiet beach to cool off with a snorkel. Afterwards, I want to celebrate that great start by meeting a friend for lunch at any number of our yummy lunch spots.

My ideal day would be going to the beach (Jack’s Bay is one of my favorites), spending the day gardening in my yard, or hitching a ride to Buck Island on a weekday!

My perfect day on St. Croix would include a bio-luminescence kayak tour, a horse ride in Frederiksted, a scenic drive, or a visit to the Botanical Gardens.

When I have visitors, I become a tourist myself. We snorkel at the pier in Frederiksted, which includes some pier jumping! Lunch or dinner anywhere on the Boardwalk in Christiansted. We would end the week with a Friday sunset sail on Lyric Sails.

I would start the day with a swim at Cane Bay, followed by a bicycle ride to the easternmost point of the United States and finish the day with a horseback ride through historic ruins and down to the beach.

Our favorite guests were my sister and brother-in-law from Hawaii. It was fantastic having them here! We toured a Danish Tall Ship, which was here on a special visit. Since we all love plants, we spent a wonderful day wandering through the St. George Village Botanical Gardens. We went to several beaches and got in the water — their favorite was Ha’ Penny Beach. Strolling through downtown Christiansted and along the boardwalk really gave them a feel of this amazing place where we live. We ate out a lot and enjoyed local cuisine at several restaurants. El Sol was their favorite. They loved St. Croix!

I love Dorsch Beach for its crystal clear water and sunsets. La Reine Chicken Shack...just ‘cause it’s a staple of STX! And Point Udall, the easternmost part of the United States.

“I’d start my day at Sunny Shore Up food truck up with a mimosa and a delicious breakfast sandwich. Then I would hike the new trail recently cut behind The Landing restaurant and take in the awesome views. Last, I would relax on the beach at beautiful Cane Bay Beach and even go for a snorkel!

I start with working out in the Carden Beach gym, or else a 1.5 mile walk around the complex. Then I catch up on emails or showings...followed by a beachside lunch at SCYC overlooking their harbor. All that is finished by making dinner with my partner and watching the sunset through our gallery. And the colors change, so it is never the same!

I would take a Carambola Zip Line tour, have lunch at the Beachside Cafe at Sandcastle on the Beach, and then look for turtles while riding the stand-up paddleboard between the Frederiksted pier and Sandy Point.

A perfect day would be picking up butter bread and cheese and coconut tarts from Thomas Bakery before heading to Dorsch Beach for snorkeling and sea glass hunting. After that we would stop for Armstrong’s Ice Cream.
