WELCOME FROM THE CEO

This has been the most challenging of years and I am incredibly proud of our students and staff for the way in which they have embraced new ways of learning and teaching.

I hope this first annual report gives you a flavour of the work our schools and Trust undertakes to deliver a high quality education for all of our 3,650 students.

Despite the challenges of the year our schools have achieved a great deal and our students have continued to flourish with achievements including England call ups, raising huge amounts for charity and undertaking acts of kindness in their communities. I am very proud of them all.

I would like to publicly thank our hard working staff or their commitment and willingness to adapt in light of the challenging circumstances we have found ourselves in.

OUR HISTORY

The founding schools, Claydon High School, East Bergholt High School and Hadleigh High School came together to form a Multi-Academy Trust in June 2017.

Claydon Primary joined the Trust in July 2018 and Colchester Academy in February 2019.

As a Trust, we do our utmost to ensure our schools are well resourced and supported to achieve the very best they are capable of.

Education Improvement Plan

3-year plan: 1. All students, across the Trust, make progress which is at least good, and increasingly outstanding. The Trust identifies underperforming schools, cohorts and subject areas and plans strategic interventions to accelerate progress. As a result, variance is reduced 2. Leadership and management at all levels across the Trust are at least good, and as a result school improvemtn is accelerated and sustained 3. All students across the Trust have high levels of well-being, are able to contribute, and make positive choices because all stakeholders in our education community are engaged and committed to the Trust’s overall vision

School Priorities:

• To close the attainment and progress gaps for all, especially those in receipt of pupil premium funding and boys.

• To improve the attendance of students at the school.

• To ensure that the school is financially secure.

• To develop the environment to promote and support the learning of a growing school community.

• To develop leadership at all levels.

• To develop and embed a curriculum to prepare students for future lives.

Highlights 2020-21:

• Over 750 donations to local homeless charities or food banks • 22 Year 10 students completed the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh with an expedition and 17 Year 9s started their awards.

• The school had nearly 300 applications for places for September 2021 and we were 17% over subscribed for first choice places.

“I would like to express my gratitude to all teachers and staff at Claydon High School for the professional way they have responded to an extremely difficult situation that no one expected to have to deal with. I have always had the utmost faith in the staff at the school. My son left last year and unfortunately didn’t get to experience the usual Year 11 end of year, or take his GSCEs. However the school continued to keep us updated and in the loop every step of the way. My daughters continue to do well at the school and have adapted, like everyone else, to the new regime. They found it difficult to start with, with the one way systems and change to the norm but have just got on with it. They still come home full of stories, chatting 19 to the dozen as usual. The girls have both commented on teachers greeting everyone in the morning and how they are always happy! A fine thing to remain happy amongst all that is going on at the moment!!! Thank you to all of you for ploughing on in the face of COVID 19 and for keeping our children safe, thus enabling them to feel secure and carry on learning and growing! • Successful Essex County Council COMF Fund bid, resulting in the Academy being 50 awarded £30,000 which will go towards replacing all of the gym equipment in the Fitness Suite • Sports building works and renovation carried out, ready for September 2021 opening • Year 10 students successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award • The Academy was awarded the Young Carers Bronze Award • Year 10 students participated in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge • Students in Year 11 worked with the Young People of the Year Charity (YOPEY), helping reduce the isolation of vulnerable people in our community during lockdown. This included our young people writing letters and producing artwork to help raise the spirits of care home residents. All students who participated were awarded a certificate.

• Lauren Fyne Year 8 won the Ipswich Rotary Club Young writer Competition (Intermediary Category) • We raised £850 for a 4YP by celebrating the end of Diversity Month and raised a total of over £10k for Children in Need.

• African Families in the UK have worked with students from our black and asian communities to ensure they are supported and represented at school.

• Mary Ayeni (Head Girl) produced a video to raise awareness of Black Lives Matter and was recognised in the Suffolk Constabulary Hope awards.

• At the end of March, we were invited on air by BBC Radio Suffolk and presented with a ‘Making a Difference’ award on behalf of all the schools in the county for our work in lockdown.

• Three collaborative staff and student virtual music projects culminating in ‘I’m Still Standing’.

• Paige Peake (2018 leaver) signed her first professional contract with ITFC Ladies (only the second player in their history to do so), and Summer Hughes (2020 leaver) was selected to represent England at U19 level.

HADLEIGH HIGH SCHOOL

• All young people at Hadleigh High School, regardless of background or need, strive to be the best version of themselves through working hard, aiming high and being kind.

They will make outstanding progress academically, secure excellent destinations post-16, and become well-rounded, happy individuals who go out into the world and make a difference.

• Our students will be diligent learners, who are resilient and able to adapt to an ever e volving world. They are able to question the world in which they live and learn how our history and culture shape us. They take pride in their achievements and those of their peers, and have a strong sense of moral purpose.

• Our young people will achieve success as a result of our strong culture of unwavering high expectations, where all students are supported and treated as individuals. Our e xcellent pastoral care will ensure all our students flourish through their personal development, positive habits and healthy relationships.

• The school has an uncompromising focus on securing the highest calibre staff, and will be a beacon of outstanding classroom practice. We will harness the power of our c ommunity, national networks and the benefits of being part of the South Suffolk Learning Trust.

• Our curriculum will be thoughtfully sequenced, balanced and aspirational, delivered by outstanding teachers who ensure the highest levels of progress. As a result, our students will be inspired to pursue excellence and embrace learning throughout their lives.

Highlights 2020-21:

As a school, we are fantastic at giving back to our local community. Charity often begins at home, and over the last few years we have supported many families and residents in our local community.

In 2018 we all pulled together as a school and made an incredible 40 family sized hampers. This equated to 1,471 extra meals! In 2019 we went that little bit further and set a new school record and managed to put together 53 hampers to go out to families in the local area!

This year was no exception and on Friday 4 December students were encouraged to wear their finest Christmas jumpers in exchange for a small donation of money. As we had to take into account COVID, we opted to raise money to buy food vouchers instead of putting together food hampers.

We worked hard to improve the environment for all students and have completed the following this year; “Ut vel mauris a ex vestibulum commodo et et elit.

A new memorial garden was designed and fundraised by our students; the thoughtfulness and care by students in our school is remarkable.
