Being a primary within a trust has allowed us to use facilities from the high schools such as their library and their food technology rooms. This benefits our children as they have more resources for us to access and it is great for transition and getting used to the high school. On both occasions we were helped by some high school children and this gave those older children a chance to develop and share their own skills.

Our TSL programme started in September 2020 and aims is to harness the very best talent in our schools to support others to improve.

The programme is open to any member of staff with two years’ experience in their role, up to Assistant Head for teachers and Grade 6 for support staff. Staff beyond these levels of experience will have different CPD and development opportunities.

Our TSLs will have an important role to play in supporting our staff and schools to improve. We hope the development opportunities will support retention of our most able colleagues but also support us in recruiting high quality staff, in part, because of the opportunities that are offered for development.

The TSLs will play an important role in the Trust Improvement Plan which is integral to meeting our strategic aims of ‘improve and further develop leadership across the Trust’ and ‘grow and improve our schools to become outstanding’.

The purpose of the SSLT’s Trust Improvement Strategy is to deliver the Trust’s overarching vision, namely enabling all learners, regardless of background or need, to be the best they can be. The most valuable resource in any school or Trust is its people, and so enabling all staff to be the best they can be as professionals is central to our approach.

As a Multi-Academy Trust, we are well placed to deliver high quality school support and CPD, by harnessing the power of networks, overseen by strong governance, to provide innovative and effective solutions, while achieving economies of scale. These economies of scale, in turn, increase the total amount of resource available to all our schools.

Highly effective school improvement drives strategic thinking, enables effective deployment of resources, and ensures accountability in order to improve outcomes for all students. Our Trust Improvement Strategy is underpinned by our core values, in particular the idea that collaboration involves both challenge and support in equal measure. Our Trust Improvement Strategy is informed by both national and international research, is evidenced-based, and led by current best practice in schools. Crucially, we believe that any school improvement strategy which is truly fit for purpose, is, by definition, agile and responsive to need. One size does not fit all!
