Dear Parents and Carers It has been a long and ‘different’ term, but not one without success. I write now, nine months since I first wrote to you informing you about our first National Lockdown. A lot has happened since that day and I am reminded of the words and advice of Dr Aisha Ahmed, a Professor in Toronto, “We have navigated a harrowing global disaster …. with resourcefulness & courage. We have already found new ways to live, love, and be happy under these rough conditions. A miracle & a marvel. This is hard proof that we have what it takes to keep going…. It’s not permanent, nor will it define you in this period of adversity. Trust that the magic that helped you through the first phase is still there. Take a breath & a pause. You’ll be on the other side in no time.” The Christmas break is that time to stop and refresh, to be thankful and appreciate what we have achieved and of what we can be proud. I am both thankful and proud of our school community – students returning in September to a school life that looked very different to the one they left in March; Year 7s starting learning in one place, they have as yet not seen the whole of the school; Year 11s learning in school, and then at home, and then back in school; our school staff who have worked tirelessly to adapt to change at every level; and to you our parents and carers whose messages of support and encouragement have been very much appreciated. However Christmas looks for you, I expect that like me you are looking to the future and hoping that 2021 will be a better year, into which we take our newfound skills of resilience and the pursuit of excellence. Have a safe and restful Christmas break – see you all in 2021.
