Match Report 1 It has been 2 years since we have been able to host another school and compete in external school fixtures, when Colchester Academy played The Colne Community School in the Year 10 boys basketball home game. It was a fast game from the go, with our boys on the back foot from an excellent Colne attack and a well drilled side of what looked like giants in height. We were 12 points down and our team fought back during the second and third quarters with the baskets starting to fall our way. With advice and support from Mr Flaherty, our team settled and restructured. Both teams started to look more balanced. Colchester Academy defended well and had fast breaks to score, but The Colne were sharp and they had an expectionally talented student who dominated the game, scoring most of their baskets. Unfortunatley, our team could not close the gap created in the first and second quarters and we lost 56-24. The energy, effort and resilience that Colchester Academy showed was not reflected in the score. The Year 10 boys did a great job representing the school and playing a competitive and fair game. Well done, onwards and upwards to our next game! Match Report 2 Our Year 10 boys basketball team hosted TLA the following week and had an extremely close match, battling right down to the last 3 seconds. The teams were very closely matched and very competitive, TLA took the lead by some Realise your Potential with Make good rebounding and pressure within our Key. We defended hard and attacked but could not always score on our lay ups. Happen Colchester Academy kept their cool as TLA started to rack up the fouls, this led to Colchester Academy getting into the scoring flow. At half time we were level at 31 points each. With 30 seconds left on the clock Colchester Academy scored an excellent lay up to win the game. Well done boys. This game could not have taken place without our time keepers and scorers Christie-Lee and Brooke. Thank you girls and well done. A special thanks also goes to the teachers and students who supported our team and cheered for them. Our final thanks goes to our Year 10 boys who worked hard, put in the effort and attend training week in and week out. Your dedication certainly showed in this game. Mrs Allwood, PE Teacher and Mr Flaherty, Coach
This term Year 7 students have had ‘The Bookbuzz Experience’. Bookbuzz is part of the BookTrust – a charity which aims to encourage students to read by providing them with their own books to keep. Here’s what some of Jack Petchey Review our students had to say. I think Bookbuzz is a fabulous charity as I was not a fan of reading. In class we watched a 24 minute film about the books and the authors explained the stories. Tristan 7L2 Little Bad Man Bookbuzz has helped me a great deal. Instead of me having to pay for a book (reading is now one of my favourites) Bookbuzz put it in my hands for free. I could not thank Bookbuzz enough for putting such a brilliant book in my collection.
