Welcome

I hope that every child will find something to participate in this year, whether it be behind the scenes in the drama production or performing a solo on Gig Night. It is my belief that these ‘extras’ make Cokethorpe what it is and that our pupils benefit greatly by involving themselves in all the School has to offer.

I also hope that both parents and pupils will feel welcome and able to support as many events as possible. I very much look forward to meeting you at one of our events this year.

Welcome back to another busy and exciting year of Performing Arts at Cokethorpe, packed with a fantastically diverse range of events. This year sees quite a few changes for the Arts at Cokethorpe including three new faces in the Music Department and a revised Advent Service which we are all very much looking forward to.

Parking is available on site.

Please do not overbook for events as this can prevent others from claiming tickets. If you do find yourself with spare tickets please contact the Box Office as soon as possible as we may be able to resell or reallocate them.

For the benefit of our patrons and for child protection reasons we no longer allow the taking of photographs or the use of video equipment by audience members at the majority of our events.

ALL YEAR rOUND

Performing House Carousel

ArT Keep an eye out wherever you may be in School for displays of art work produced by the pupils. Fabric collage, lenticular photography, batik, prints, oils, watercolours and sculpture can all be found brightening up stairways, halls and classrooms.

ArTs Academy The Arts Academy returns for three hours every Saturday morning during term time to offer pupils an incredible opportunity to improve their dramatic or musical skills. The most dedicated and determined of creative and expressive performing arts pupils attend the Academy where they can apply for either the Drama or Music sessions.

All YEAR ROUND

Every Thursday, First and Second Form pupils participate in a carousel of Performing Arts based workshops and projects. The work from the first two terms is performed in a final production in the Summer Term.

The CokeThorpe PlinTh Inspired by Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth and drawing upon Cokethorpe’s artistic flair, the School exhibits its own art work on a specially commissioned plinth. The School welcomes all proposals for future exhibits.

They can embrace a variety of art forms and the project is open to all those connected to Cokethorpe, including past and present pupils, parents and staff.

Trips and EvenTs In addition to the wide-ranging, all encompassing and challenging programme of activities that take place at the School, pupils of all ages have the opportunity to attend some truly unique events and trips throughout the course of the year.

Previous trips that have taken place in the 2013 - 2014 academic year have been an A Level Art and Design trip to St Ives, a Fourth Form Textiles trip, theatre vists to see plays such as ‘Warhorse’, and to theatre companies including Frantic Assembly and Flintlock.

FifTH FORM DRAMA Fifth Form GCSE Drama pupils undertake a six hour practical assessment requiring them to explore, devise and share work in progress based on Franz Kafka’s ‘Metamorphosis’.

lUNCHTIME MUSIC RECITAL The bi-termly recitals are an ideal opportunity for those learning musical instruments in or out of school to gain experience performing in the beautiful and sympathetic surroundings of the Corinthian Room.

iNTER-HOUSE MUSIC The annual Inter-House Music Competition sees Houses battle it out against one another in an afternoon of hotly fought classes. The event begins with the hugely exciting solo and vocal ensemble classes followed by the whole-house singing event.

CPA MURDER MYSTERY Organised by the Cokethorpe Parents’ Association, this is a fantastic night of fun, great food, drinks and wonderful company with a hilarious and thrilling mystery to solve. This year Cokethorpe Staff present ‘A Taste for Murder’.

dRAMA AWARD HOLDERS This year’s Drama Award Holders present a variety of monologues and short sketches. This is a lunchtime show not to be missed. Pupils will take you from gripping, on the edge performances to laughing at the comedic acts.

MICHAELMAS ProducTION The Senior School presents ‘All Through the House’ by William Gleason.

William Garrett is hosting his weekly poker game under the guise of The Shakespeare Study Club when a series of unexpected events and unwelcome visitors interrupt proceedings with hilarious consequences.

The cast includes pupils from First Form to Upper Sixth and is a festive comedy for all the family.

Young Musicians plaTform GCSE pupils give performances for the practical part of their examination in the formal setting of a concert. Although this is an integral part of the GCSE course, pupils have the opportunity to perform their own compositions as well as works by known composers.

Second Form pupils present their final public performance involving every pupil in the year. Previous productions have included ‘Grimm’s Fairytales’, ‘The Canterbury Tales’ and ‘Shipwrecked’.

A LEVEL MUSIC CONCERT A Level students and special guests give performances of the practical part of their examinations. It is an enjoyable evening and an ideal opportunity to see the most dedicated students in Cokethorpe perform.
