In a time when many schools and institutions are facing arts funding cuts and are seeing a reduction in the amount of arts education they are able to provide, it is both reassuring and gratifying to look through the multitude of events in this years’ Shedule. As teachers of the arts at Cokethorpe we are often asked: ‘You do so much – how do you cope?’, yet that is what drives us and what is so rewarding.

This year sees the formalisation of Cokethorpe’s six leadership values: Integrity, Courage, Empathy, Judgement, Ambition and Responsibility. It is no coincidence that these values also embody what it is to be an artist and allow all of us to live fulfilling and meaningful lives.

As ever, I encourage you all – pupils, parents and friends of Cokethorpe – to challenge and involve yourselves.

If you have not sung before, join the Choral Society; if you have never taken to the stage, have a go at House Drama and most importantly support your friends and colleagues as they do the same. There is much to see and do beyond the classroom; grasp this opportunity.

If you have any special requirements such as wheelchair access please let us know when you book your tickets or contact us.

Please do not overbook for events as this can prevent others from claiming tickets. If you do find yourself with spare tickets please contact the Box Office as soon as possible as we may be able to resell or reallocate them.

For the benefit of our patrons and for child protection reasons we no longer allow the taking of photographs or the use of video equipment by audience members at the majority of our events. Official photographs and video recordings may be available – please contact us for details.

20 September 2018 Award Holders’ Recital This is a wonderful chance to see and listen to the huge variety and quality that our Music Award Holders here at Cokethorpe School offer. Set in the beautiful Corinthian Room this is a fantastic event to start the new academic year.

1 2 O C TO B E R 2 0 1 8 House Singing Competition This promises to be a hotly fought afternoon as Houses battle it out against one another. There will be a whole House song and a vocal ensemble from each House.

1 3 O C TO B E R 2 0 1 8 CPA Murder Mystery Evening A fantastic evening of laughter, fabulous food, drinks and sleuthing. Featuring a cast of Cokethorpe teachers as you have never seen them before, this popular event sells out quickly.

1 8 O C TO B E R 2 0 1 8 Choral Evensong Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the beautiful singing of the School Choir performing traditional choral works for Evensong.

1 2 N ov e m b e r 2 0 1 8 Afternoon Recital The Music Recitals are a great opportunity for those learning to play musical instruments to gain experience of performing in front of an audience.

1 9 N ov e m b e r 2 0 1 8 First Form Mime Storytelling through the medium of mime presented by First Form. A number of original, ensemble creations highlighting the creativity of the year group shown through a challenging theatrical style.

2 1 n OV E M B E R 2 0 1 8 St Cecilia Concert In celebration of the Patron Saint of Music, this event is a showcase of solo and ensemble music. Performances are from our Music Award Holders and other bright musical talents.

2 8 & 2 9 N ov e m b e r 2 0 1 8 Junior School Performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

The children from Years 3 to Year 6 will be pleased to entertain you with a performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Please join us in the Dining Hall afterwards for mulled wine and refreshments.

2 9 N ov e m b e r 2 0 1 8 GCSE Recital GCSE pupils perform for their practical examination in the formal setting of a concert. The pupils have the opportunity to perform as both soloists and as part of an ensemble.

Junior School Christingle

A traditional service in the setting of the School Chapel sees all Junior School children celebrate Christingle with music and readings. Carols are sung by candlelight as the children line the aisle holding the Christingles they made in class. This is an internal event for Junior School children and staff.

03 & 04 December 2018 Advent Service

Pupils from across the whole School gather with their families to mark the end of term with festivities. The celebrations will take place in the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Witney.

12 & 13 December 2018 Senior School Christmas Production: It’s a Wonderful Life Adapted from the classic film, ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ tells the poignant story of a man, who, in his darkest hour on Christmas Eve and on the brink of ending his life is visited by a guardian angel. A comic, moving and uplifting drama which poses the question, ‘What makes a meaningful life?’

2 1 ja n ua r y 2 0 1 9 Afternoon Recital GCSE pupils perform for their practical examination in the formal setting of a concert. This is an integral part of the GCSE course and gives pupils the opportunity to perform as both soloists and as part of an ensemble.

2 4 ja n ua r y 2 0 1 9 Open Door to Arts Academy A chance to see inside Cokethorpe’s Saturday Arts Academy. An opportunity to join in drama games and activities as well as see some group performance work in progress.

1 4 F e b r ua r y 2 0 1 9 Young Musician Competition - Final Now in its fourth year, the Music Department presents Cokethorpe Young Musician of the Year. Instrumentalists, vocalists and musicians will have performed in a series of heats, competing for a place in the prestigious finalists’ concert.

04 - 08 march 2019 Junior School Arts Week A week celebrating the Arts with a different focus each year. Music, poetry, art, dance, competitions, exhibitions and workshops; join the Junior School at the Evening of the Arts and see what this year brings.

11, 13, 14 & 15 March 2019 Inter-House Drama Competition Week All Houses compete to win the coveted title of Inter-House Drama champions.

Each House is presented with the same stimulus and work as a team to produce the most creative and memorable dramatic interpretation. There is also a monologue/duologue category where individuals or pairs can pick up valuable points for their House. Each year a guest judge from the industry adjudicates the final and presents the winners with the trophy.

Spring Concert

As the days lengthen and spring is in the air, come and revel in a cornucopia of instrumental delights from the Cokethorpe Music Department. We hope you can join us for this Spring Concert which features both solo instrumentalists and ensembles.

28 & 29 march 2019 Classics and Drama Production: Antigone Classics and Drama present: ‘Antigone’. After a most bloody and divisive civil war, after brother has killed brother, the ancient city of Thebes is plunged into ever greater turmoil as their sister strives to do what is right and honourable, despite the king and his laws to the contrary. Sophocles’ masterpiece, confronts its audience with violence, piteous heroes, and the consequences of underestimating the resolve of a woman.

02 april 2019 Live Lounge The Live Lounge returns this year after the success of its maiden outing in January 2018. Join us for an informal evening featuring some of Cokethorpe’s finest singer-songwriters backed by a live professional house band.

TBC A Level Drama Performance Exam Upper Sixth Drama students demonstrate their theatre-making skills as performers in their final practical exam. Group and individual performances are presented for a live audience and visiting examiner.

TBC Fifth Form GCSE Drama Exam Performances GCSE students perform in and/or design for two key extracts from a performance text. This practical examination takes place in front of a live audience and visiting examiner.

0 1 M ay 2 0 1 9 Mayday Madrigals A celebration of May Day, sung from the balcony of the Mansion by the finest voices of the School. The whole School assembles and is given the opportunity to share in this ancient festivity by listening to the singing of Madrigals.

0 8 M ay 2 0 1 9 Choral Society Concert The Director of Music leads a choir made up of the School Choir and the Cokethorpe School Choral Society, comprised of parents and staff. All are welcome from beginners to more experienced singers - come along and give it a try!

1 6 M ay 2 0 1 9 Drama Award Holders Showcase Drama Award holders showcase their individual and ensemble talents in this afternoon presentation of dramatic works.

2 3 M ay 2 0 1 9 GCSE and A Level Recital This recital is a great opportunity for those learning musical instruments in or out of School to showcase how far they have progressed over the academic year. The recital offers a range of instrumental and vocal performances.

17 june 2019 Award Holders’ Recital The Music Recitals are a great opportunity for our Award Holders’ to showcase their skills in front of an audience.

18 june 2019 Fourth Form GCSE Devised’ Exam As part of their GCSE course, Fourth Form Drama candidates present their devised work for a live audience. Based on a variety of stimuli, pupils collaborate to produce a final practical piece. The process and performance is analysed and evaluated in a detailed portfolio.

19 june 2019 First Form Production First Form pupils participate in their final public performance of the term.

Drawing upon their learning throughout the year, they will present their original group work to create meaning and impact for a live audience.

24 june 2019 Second Form Afternoon Performance Inspired by their work on Gothic texts and physical theatre, Second Form pupils present their final theatrical interpretations, which formed part of their end of year examination.

TBC Lower Sixth A Level Drama Performance Implementing the style, methodology and conventions of their chosen practitioner, Lower Sixth Drama students present their original, devised work as part of their A Level course.
