PDC DESIGN GALLERY MAY 22 - JUNE 30, 2025

ART ANGELS GALLERY PRESENTS: CHROMATIC UTOPIA BY MICHAEL CALLAS

Art Angels proudly presents Chromatic Utopia, a solo exhibition by celebrated contemporary artist Michael Callas, on view at the iconic Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. This highly anticipated show features 26 original works on canvas and invites viewers into a vivid, immersive world where architecture, design, and color theory converge in a stunning visual dialogue.

Michael Callas is renowned for his meticulous technique and deep-rooted architectural influences, drawing inspiration from modernist masters including Pierre Koenig, Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, and Julius Shulman. Callas channels Koenig and Neutra’s minimalist lines and organic harmony, while echoing Wright’s use of structure as expressive language. His layered perspectives also recall Shulman’s photographic legacy—each reference serving as a cornerstone in Callas’ own chromatic universe.

In Chromatic Utopia, color becomes more than surface—it becomes structure. Using spray paint and stencils with surgical precision, Callas executes each composition with the rigor of an

architect drafting blueprints. Beginning with digital renderings, every form and hue is considered before the physical painting begins, resulting in works that are as disciplined as they are emotionally resonant.

The exhibition blurs the boundary between built environments and organic forms. Callas’ geometric canvases pulse with saturated hues, transforming static space into living, sensory experiences. His work challenges the viewer’s perception and offers a bold, contemporary meditation on the emotional architecture of color.

Whether interpreted as modernist blueprints reimagined through color theory or as abstract reflections on control and creativity, Chromatic Utopia invites audiences into a space where precision meets pleasure and every shade tells a story.

TJ

ANDERSON

TJ Anderson presents Fluorescence Forest, the artist’s debut exhibition in Los Angeles with new sculptures comprising his signature bold dimensional forms, color and luminescence. As assemblage works made of Plexiglas with concrete foundations, they appear to have internal illumination, yet they actually reflect and absorb the surrounding ambient light. This dynamic allows for an ever-changing geometric dialog with space resulting in luminous depths of color. Influenced by the design culture and urban scapes in his first hometown of Chicago, Anderson pursued college studies in drawing, painting and sculpture. After relocating to California in 1980's, his interests expanded to architecture and three dimensional art fabrication. He continues to cultivate his art house platform, "TJ Anderson Studio" and exhibits two and three dimensional assemblage works where he lives and works in Palm Springs California. The exhibit is on view until September 2025. For sales inquiries please contact the artist at tjanderson.studio@gmail.com.
