Saylor’s photographs frame the elemental aspects of their subjects and focus attention on their materiality, their contexts, and their implications. Saylor’s photographs have helped define the broader cultural context of the late 20th century design. His photographs have been fundamental in the ongoing dialogues of the interior design movements and the growing incorporation of nature and natural elements in our homes, workplaces and life. Saylor’s photographs captured the work of this incredibly dynamic time in an inedible way that continues to resonate today.

Andrew Martin, Suite C-126 New Wallpaper Attic Collection

‘In George Eliot’s Mill on the Floss, “the great attic under the high pitched roof with worm eaten shelves and dark rafters festooned with cobwebs” is described as weird and ghostly. However, as every child knows, the attic is a secret world of forgotten treasure. In the ancient steamer trunk, still lies the Boer War uniform of Great Uncle Jack, lost at Mafeking. In the far corner, next to the dust layered lead zoo animals and the broken clockwork train, sits a Steiff bear who lost his left paw. There is a mouse hiding in a stuffed owl. Yet the attic is also the resting place of darker family secrets. Up here is locked Rochester’s mad wife and the fading portrait of Dorian Gray.’ The autumn will bring ever evolving idiosyncratic designs with the launch of our fourth collection of wallpapers accompanied by vibrant velvet prints, elegant textures and some unique appliqué.

The patterns in the Big Sky Collection are exclusive to Pindler and have been colored in updated desert tones and classic Southwest colors with subtle accent colors. The Big Sky Collection is a selection of seven designs that each meet a minimum of 30,000 double rubs. These patterns and more can be viewed in Suite C230. Newport Mansions Doris Duke™ Indoor/Outdoor: a collection of eclectic assortments of exotic patterns inspired by the batiks, sarongs, kimonos, and personal gatherings of an iconic world traveler, Doris Duke. Universal Design/Build Universal Design/Build presents a paradigm shift in how we approach residential design and construction. Comfort and convenience – regardless of age, stature or ability – is the hallmark of inclusive design. Additionally, universal design must be pleasing to the eye and cost competitive. This course will benefit all who design, supply, build and remodel homes as well as those affiliated with social and health services. Participants will benefit from the creative design concepts and practices presented in order to develop their own market-driven projects with both broad aesthetic appeal and the necessary functional attributes. CAPS designees may find additional benefits from the course since it expands into the broader spectrum of universal design with a much wider target audience. CAPS training is not a pre-requisite. All attendees will be able to: • Describe the significance of integrating UD concepts into residential construction • Distinguish between accessibility & UD solutions • Locate UD resources, products, materials & services • Identify/implement UD solutions for various households, budgets & changing needs • Use effective marketing & communication strategies • Develop functional & attractive designs Course Dates: Nov 20-21, Feb 26-27 9:00AM – 5:00PM, DCOTA Resource Center Universal Design/ Build Day 1 IDCEC# 102910 .6 HSW CEU Universal Design/Build Day 2 IDCEC# 102913 .6 HSW CEU (must attend both day to receive CEU)

PRODUCT NEWS Donghia Showroom, Suite C-250 Inspired by the distinctive blue dye associated with intuition and mindfulness, Maya Romanoff’s limited edition collection has its roots in Maya’s studies in India and Southeast Asia in the late 1960s. Apprenticing in time-honored fabric dying techniques began his lifelong quest to interpret these pigments and methods for the wall. This brand new collection presents three signature designs reinvented in fresh Indigo: Anniversary Crystal, River Bed and Weathered Metals wallpapers – all painted by hand in the Maya Romanoff Chicago studio.

Lee Jofa, Suite C-150 Ithaka, a new fabric collection from Lee Jofa, was inspired by the poem “Ithaka” by Constantine Cavafy. The collection includes two warp-printed ikats, woven in the traditional style in silk and a cotton linen blend. Intriguing and mysterious, the Past Perfect Collection showcases textures, multilayered designs, and looks that could have been pulled directly from Marlene Dietrich’s dressing table. Century Designer, Suite B-228

Tai Ping, Suite C-228 Visit the Tai Ping showroom to view the Han Feng Collection, designed in collaboration with accomplished fashion and costume designer Han Feng. A meditation on Feng’s two-decade long career, the collection recreates her signature aesthetic motifs and couture techniques in large scale, resulting in stunning trompe l’oeil and other abstract visual effects. The nine handmade designs in the series display a lyricism that gives movement and dimensionality to an interior. Crafted in combinations of wool, silk, flax and lace, the vibrant rugs required skilled craftsmanship to mimic pleats, ruffles and embellishments.

The Juliette Cigarette Table with Blue Mirror was designed by Windsor Smith for Century Furniture. The idea of this table is loosely based on a pair of vintage mirrored tables Windsor once owned. The mirrored top provides a watery reflection of the candlesticks or flowers you place on it so it is as much a treat sitting next to as it is enjoying it across the room. This table can be done with a dreamy blue-mirrored top of with a more subdued plain mirror.
