CODY CATTLE COMPANY

FEBRUARY 25, 2023 AT 1:00 P.M. // AT THE RANCH IN SCANDIA, KANSAS

Welcome

Grit, courage and faith. Strength of character.

Those are a few key words that we take to heart. Lindsay and I feel that we put as much effort and attention, as humanly possible, into the aspects of our operation that we can control. We certainly aren’t afraid to try something new, if we believe the outcome would be positive. After more than 15 years of selling Charolais bulls with sale partners, we are excited to host our first live auction at the ranch. While the change in sale format falls into the category of things we can control, lack of moisture and fluctuating markets are things we cannot control. And they they require grit and faith that better days are ahead.

I believe that the pendulum has begun to swing back in favor of cow/calf operations. This fall we saw a strong demand for the 5-6 weight cattle and now the 8-9 weight cattle are consistently garnering $1650 to $1800. Backgrounders and feeders are now, more than ever, looking for reputable cattle they know can perform efficiently due to higher input costs. With the U.S. cow numbers dropping below 30 million head for the first time in decades, it feels like beef prices should remain strong for the next several years.

With that being said, we are confident that we have a strong set of bulls right for the times: stout, durable, performance-driven and carcassoriented with large, dark scrotals. They look good on the hoof and read progressive on paper, with scan data and scrotal measurements to back it up.

We are proud of these bulls. If we can be of any assistance in your bull selection, please give us a call. We welcome the opportunity to learn more about your breeding program and assess genetic needs.

Lastly, thank you for the consideration of our bulls. As with each year, we look forward to gathering with old friends and new during sale weekend. We’ll host lunch at noon and a social following the sale — hope to see you in Scandia on February 25!

REDEMPTION SONS

Unique, different, high quality, bold, dense, and soft haired have all been words used by judging teams to describe Bad Man this fall. His mother, 7106, is unquestionably the widest chested, roundest ribbed and stoutest pinned cow on the farm while still maintaining a level, dark, and small-teeted udder. Bad Man was opened up by his mother, but got the high-tying neck, show quality hair coat, and killer looks from his daddy. There’s enough performance for production minded breeders and enough look for show enthusiast that would like to have a self-sufficient animal after the halter is hung up. Selling 1/2 interest and choice of possession. If the new owner(s) want to double the bid they can have full possession and 3/4 semen interest.

2106 is a 3/4 sib to one of last year’s sale highlights that went to L.G. Herndon in Georgia. This guy is clean fronted, flat shouldered, big bodied and deadly from the profile. You throw in the way he reads on paper and he instantly makes marketable livestock in his first calf crop. His coming 9-year-old New Standard-7M dam doesn’t miss and makes it easy on a guy. Retaining 1/3 semen interest. 2

7

2055 is our third heaviest weaned bull at 873 to ratio 114. If you’re looking to add extension and performance he’s a nice option.

8

A bull bred for longevity, his mother is a 13-year-old Bluegrass cow that doesn’t miss. A 3/4 brother went to Nathan Lindberg a couple years ago. An added bonus is his heavy 835 AWW.

11

CCC MOBSTER 2028 P M976638

In terms of good looks, squareness of build, length of body, being big-assed and performance driven I don’t know that we can offer a better combination bull than Mobster. His mother is a tank of a Benelli cow that cranks them out. This is her third son in a row we’ve shown in a pen. She is a beast. Mobster himself acts like his daddy and is an accurate depiction of what Mescalito is doing for us as a herd bull. Good stock. Retaining 1/3 semen interest.

CCC MESCALITO 2035 P

2041 has power and performance to spare. Thug is our heaviest AWW bull at 898 lbs. With packers being more willing to take 1100 lb carcasses, it will take bulls like 2041 to do it efficiently and not be a yield grade 4 or 5. His dam is an impressive 4-year-old Redemption-7M.

15

PRETTY BOY FLOYD 2046 P

This bull is an ultra complete, masculine son out of an up and coming donor. Pretty boy is a maternal sib to last year’s high seller, Ad Astra, that went to our friends, the Hebberts in Nebraska.

If you ask any of our kids what the 3 requirements for a CCC bull are, they will tell you butts, guts, and nuts. Cartel takes these fundamentals to the extreme. Typically bulls with this much power, performance, and mass don’t present it in such an appealing manner. If he wasn’t so closely related to Mescalito, Red Kingdom, and John Brown there’s no chance we would be letting go of all the walking rights. It’s bulls like this that make drastic changes to cow herds on the first go. Retaining 1/3 semen interest.

CCC WICKED 2085 P

MILES AHEAD SONS

19

CCC MILES 2048 P

2048 is a very balanced and attractive bull that reads the same on paper. His build and numbers suggest he could be used on younger females and still perform.

20 CCC MILES 2069 P

This guy has done everything right since the day he was born and will catch your eye. His mother is at the top of the 2018 class. Safe and predictable bull.

I don’t think there’s a bull that’s

WC MILESTONE 5223 P

CCC MILES AHEAD 8113 P ET

WC CCC SWEETHEART 1140 P

This is the type of bull that fires me up. All the stoutness and performance you need while being extremely high quality. He has our second heaviest AWW at 885 lbs.; couple that with his calving ease and carcass data, 2080 is good stock.

23

Every year I screw up and miss a Denver prospect. We definitely should’ve taken this guy. Study his video and live at the sale-we didn’t do this guy justice with his picture-he’s a purebred quality bull on hoof and paper. His dam is a beast of a cow.

2091 is dense and square built, with the herd sire look. His dam is a heavy-milking soggy power cow.

GUNSLINGER SONS

25 CCC GANGSTA 2004 P

2004 is as close to a replica of Gunslinger as we’ve produced. Same dense body, efficient build, and gain ability. His mother, 9043, went to the embryologist after her Resource heifer was top of the ‘21 calf crop, then at 65 days old, Gangsta proved the point we needed to have more than 1 offspring per year on our place. We picked 2004 up in the first of August. He hadn’t been on creep and weighed an impressive 830 lbs. If he’d been given the same opportunity as the majority of our bulls, it might have been scary what he weighed. If you’re a numbers guy all of his EPDs go right and are green. Selling 1/2 semen interest and fall possession. (CCC will retain walking rights from March 25-June 1)

PROBITY, ROUND THAT BEND, MAJOR IMPACT SONS

Quiet possibly the heaviest muscled, most opened up bull we’ve ever produced. He does so while still being clean and smooth made. His first calf mother took him to an 800 lb AWW.

His mother has been a favorite since the day she was born. First she sticks AI to Probity to make Villain, then 358 days later she lays down and has a 75 lb. Ad Astra heifer calf. I’m slow but not simple; she’s headed to the embryologist in mid-March. Villain is our only bull in Denver out of a heifer and he’s not far behind the rest in terms of lbs. He’s as hard and square footed, flexible at the ground and ideal built bull we’ve offered. Add his soft middle, big pin set, and maternal look: this guy would do a world of good to some more conventional white cows. Retaining 1/3 semen interest.

CCC UNCHARTED 2042 P ET

CCC

JOCKEY, CIGAR SONS AND COMPOSITES

I think our photographer, Morgan Meisenheimer, took 200 pics of this guy. She kept saying how she loved his mass, squareness, and build. If an operation was going to retain ownership in their calves and sell on the grid this guy should be circled. 38

CODY CATTLE COMPANY COLLEGIATE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Cody Cattle Co. Collegiate Scholarship Program was developed as a way to give back to the Charolais and beef industries. We believe that one of the best ways we can give back is through supporting youth in their continuing education efforts.

One $1,000 dollar scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating high school senior or current college student for the upcoming academic year. Due the caliber of applicants in the inaugural year (2021), CCC presented two additional scholarships in the amount of $500 each.

RESOURCE 1520 P ET

BULLS Fall

RUSHMORE SONS

I’m not sure where to start with this guy. His dam is my favorite cow on the place, his 2 full brothers sold to purebred outfits, and Unity is incredible. He’s the soggiest made bull I’ve ever been around, while still having an ideal top line and hip. You read him on paper and realize he can be a heifer bull, with over 800 lb AWW, that reads green on 12 of 13 traits. If his full brother, Probity, wasn’t covering our cows there is no way I’d ever let go of all the walking rights. Take advantage!

He will be easy to find on sale day. Stout, powerful and square. He has the ideal rib shape and herd bull look.

MILES AHEAD/MILESTONE SONS

57 CCC DM MILES 1621

56 CCC MILES 1609 P M970728

This is a bull you buy to make the neighbor jealous. He’s an eye catcher while having a big pin set and expressive muscle pattern. His dam consistently cranks them out and is beautiful uddered.

His dam is an outstanding donor that you’ll see more out of in years to come. 1621’s full brother went to Illinois, and by pedigree 1621 would be a 3/4 sib to Mescalito. Smooth, square and deep-fault free bull.

You could write a novel on both of this guy’s parents. Resource is one of the heaviest used sires in the past decade due to his ability to milk, marble, and make fault free progeny. 1520’s dam, 1567, is the dam of Outsider, the most heavily used bull in the show ring the past several years. 1520’s a good combination of both his elite parents.
