This will lead to daytime highs Friday through Sunday in the upper 30's to low 40's and overnight lows in the mid to upper 20's. Lastly, there are really no chances for precipitation to speak of over the weekend and heading into early next week with mostly dry conditions continuing.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES CANDIDATE WANTS TO “ARM” STUDENTS...

This past Monday, the College of DuPage Adjuncts Association (CODAA) along with COD’s Student Leadership Council (SLC) hosted the District #502 Board of Trustees Candidates’ Forum at the Turner Conference Center on the COD campus.

Candidates Dan Bailey, Maureen Dunne, Mark Incrocci and Annette Corrigan introduced themselves and their platforms as well as answered questions from the audience during the event. Audience members were also given the opportunity to mingle with the candidates in a meet and greet session that lasted 30 minutes after closing statements from each candidate were issued.

During the Q & A portion of the evening, candidate Annette Corrigan sparked a follow up question after what was perceived to be a controversial response she gave. The initial question regarded how COD should handle the growing amount of violence happening across the globe.

“I started out in the Honors Program...When I first started out here [at COD] I couldn’t possibly imagine that I would have ended up at University of Chicago or getting a Phd at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. So there’s a lot of reasons I made that decision [to attend COD] and I think it was definitely the right decision for me.”

Most Illinois schools, including COD, have seen declining enrollment. What ideas do you have for attracting new students and retaining current students?

"It’s a good idea that we focus on some of the STEM resources, considering the future opportunities in terms of employment."

With the increase of violence in the world globally, do you think COD should play a role in awareness and/or prevention, why or why not?

“So, what do we do for our students? How do we help them? Yes, having campus security and all those things, but I do think that you need to arm not just our students but our faculty, our visitors and our school, you know, we need to arm them.” - Annette Corrigan

When you say armed, are you advocating for faculty and staff and students to be literally armed?

“I don’t think we’re at that point in our society today, and, I think that the context in which I said that was pretty clear, but I understand the concern. I don’t know what the next step is for our culture. What I meant by armed, of course, is arming them with information, arming them with techniques, and, you know, responses.” - Annette Corrigan

How should board vacancies be filled?

“Well first off, they should resign in time to hold an election, or when there’s an election nearby they should resign in time for the position to be voted on in the election and then if that’s not happening, like let's say it’s the middle of a term away from election, then there should be time for people interested to volunteer to serve, to put in an application. Time, a month or two, for the public and the board to consider those applications and vet people, and then, with public input, make a decision.” - Dan Bailey

What is the most important issue facing COD?

"I think the president is important. We want to have a president that will stay here for a while, and we want to have one that brings people together, that has management skills and academic background as well so he can relate to what the teachers and the administration need.” - Dan Bailey

Almost 65% of courses at COD are being taught by adjunct faculty and instructors. Many students may have few courses that are taught by a full time faculty members. Do you have ideas on how we could better support and engage adjunct faculty for the better of the students?

“I think engaging all stakeholders...the adjunct faculty has to have a clear say amongst the board and the administration, as they know what’s going on in certain aspects. I always say that your best teams are comprised of like your golf bag, you’re gonna have different skill sets that you need at different times, and I would say that you need to have diverse opinions and beliefs and understandings of how an organization this size actually works.” - Mark Incrocci

What are your thoughts regarding increasing taxes to help lower tuition?

“I don’t think that we need to increase taxes or increase tuition. A organization this size, there’s opportunities for us to cut expenses by working together.”- Mark Incrocci

COD HOSTS THIRD ANNUAL WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP SUMMIT Madison Venckus, Staff Writer venckusm1845@dupage.edu

In celebration of Women’s history month, COD partnered up with student activities coordinator, Stephanie Quirk, to host the third annual Women’s Student Leadership Summit on Wednesday March 13.

Guest speaker, Jodi Merriday, facilitated conversations between audience members through her program “Speak Truth to Power: Trending Topics in Diversity.” Merriday identifies as a vocal artist, weaving popular and timely songs into her presentations to provoke emotion and thought from her audience.

Merriday began her presentation by highlighting recent events appearing in the news. She covered the Black Lives Matter movement, women’s demand for equal pay and the LGBTQ protests for equality.

“African Americans are saying that black lives matter, women are marching in Washington D.C. asking for equal rights and the LGBTQ community is asking to be protected from hate. If all of us are asking for equal opportunities in this country, than we have to share a vision where diversity and differences are included and em-

braced,” Merriday said.

The conversation about equal rights for everyone isn’t going away. Merriday introduced tools to the audience that both cultivate social intelligence and promote inclusivity. Even small changes to the way we talk to each other can improve our inclusivity.

At the end of the presentation, audience members were asked to hold up an empty fist. Merriday read off five minority characteristics which included being a woman, having a disability, practicing a religion outside of christianity, not speaking English as a first lan-

guage and being African-American. As students found them applicable, they were encouraged to put up a finger. After the five groups were introduced, every audience member had at least one finger in the air signifying their minority.

COD’s living leadership program has two more leadership events coming up in April. An unusual leadership program will be held April 3, and a strengthbased leadership program will be held April 11. Students interested can either sign up on ChapLife or contact student life with any questions.

NEWS GIRL UP JOINS COD'S LIST OF CLUBS

With the continuation of Women’s history month, a new club has emerged at COD. Girl Up’s mission is to defend gender equality, as well as help adolescent girls in developing countries attend school, emphasising the importance of education.

President Poonam Rahman, a first year pre-pharmacy and biological science student, started COD’s chapter in December 2018. Rahman feels the club is an opportunity to give students a place to belong.

“I think COD needed a club like this because, in this day and age, it is important to have a support system for women and a resource for young women to gain their leadership skills,” Rahman said.

In terms of goals for the rest of the semester, Rahman hopes to educate the COD community, as well as complete various projects and fundraisers. “[Our goal] is to gain student involvement in our club and to host many fun and beneficial events.,” Rahman said. “Since Girl Up COD is a newer club, we also would like to spread awareness and inform students about our club and our mission of helping and empowering young girls all over the world.”

On Thursday, March 14, Girl Up hosted a Women’s Empowerment Panel. Panelists at event included Amal Jarad, a counselor at COD; Hira Umer, owner of Scrumptious By Hira, a bakery lo-

cated in Lombard; Kris Leonard a counselor from Medinah Middle School, and Stephanie Quirk, who oversees SLC, as well as coordinates Student Life.

Topics for panelists varied from supporting other women and their successes, without questioning your own, to how they were able to bring other women up and who inspires them.

Umer, a small business owner, combats the feeling of comparison to other women’s success by remembering everyone has a place in the world.

“There is room for everyone, and everyone is doing something different,” Umer said.

Panelists were also asked what empowerment means to them.

Quirk emphasised paying it forward.

“When you empower someone, it empowers them to pay that forward,” Quirk said.

Jarad credited her education to being empowered and wishes someone would have told her everything would be OK. “Education has opened up a big door for me to be empowered,” Jarad said. “I came to this country when I was 15. I was the top of my class back home… I wish someone would have told me, ‘You’ll make it.’”

As one of the final questions, panelists were asked what “like a girl” means to them.

“It’s the only way I know how to do it!” Umer said.

BECOMING A TOURIST IN YOUR OWN CITY Madison Venckus, Staff Writer venckusm1845@dupage.edu

Becoming a tourist in your own city becomes repetitive quickly when visiting the same restaurants, stores and attractions. Visiting Millennium Park, the Willis Tower and The Bean are all must do’s but can become dull sites after a few visits. Before you ditch the city for the beach this spring break, take a deeper look at some of Chicago’s less well-known attractions.

Zap Props’ is a 36,000-squarefoot warehouse located at 3611 S. Loomis Place. The one-of-a-kind depot is the home to thousands of unique movie props and backdrops that have most likely debuted in one of your favorite TV shows.

Set designers and producers can rent some of the pieces along with having new ones printed or built.

The warehouse is completed with a

full wood and welding shop in order to continue expanding the ever changing collection. Owner Bill Rawski isn’t even sure exactly what items he has in his collection, which makes every trip to Zap Props’ a treasure hunt.

At the Bohemian National Cemetery, devoted Cubs fans can celebrate their favorite team’s victories even in the afterlife. The idea for the Cubbie Columbarium came to Dennis Mascari after visiting the cemetery and feeling the need for a happier backdrop. The columbarium mimics the famous ivy-covered outfield walls at Wrigley Field and has a 24-foot-high urn inside. A stained glass scoreboard, a patch of Wrigley field turf and a bench that had been used in the Cubs bullpen give buried fans a chance

to spend eternity among the field that brought them so much joy.

The Bohemian National Cemetery is located in Irving Park and is open to the public year round.

Roger’s Park is infamous for its artsy vibe and electric neighborhood. Many homeowners use their houses as a way to express their style or artistic abilities. There’s a junk home, a Candyland house and, my all-time favorite, The Leopard-Print house. Located at 1623 W. Estes Ave., The Leopard-Print House was designed in the early 2000s by six residents who couldn’t decide on one exterior color. The house is officially named the “Rodger Spark Presents Wes Testes’s Faerie Castle: Asbestos-on-Estes,” but it is more commonly referred to as the Leopard-Print House.

Beginning in 1993 as an initiative to drive out gang graffiti, the Pilsen Murals, located in the Pilsen neighborhood, reflect residents’ political beliefs, joys, concerns and Latino Culture. Artist Francisco Mendoza, along with 20 young students, created the first piece of art called “Las Mujeres.”

The mosaic celebrates empowering women of Mexico, both past and present. Following that piece, Mendoza decided to get another group of students together to cover the entire station in colorful murals. A two-story mural of the Declaration of Independence, located at 1401 W. 18th Street, serves as a reminder to viewers that we are a nation of

Whether or not you’re a fan of thrift shopping, Buffalo Exchange is a must see when in Wicker Park. The resale shop located at 1478 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago buys, sells and trades various clothing at an extremely affordable price.

Customers can trade clothing items in and receive 50% commission in store credit or 30% in cash. Buffalo Exchange is one of four resale shops on Milwaukee Avenue along with Levi’s, Carhartt and Ragstock stores.

The Flat Iron Arts Building is located in the center hub of Wicker Park in Chicago. Anyone is welcome to explore the apartment buildings as the hallways and staircases are covered in residents’ artwork. At times, artists will open their personal studios to the public to display more recent work. The building is named after its trian-

gular shape, which makes it easy to get lost in the winding hallways.

Although the building is more of a maze than an arts museum, the funky design adds character to the already lively complex. The building is located down the street from Buffalo Exchange at 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave. Southport Bowling Lanes, located at 3325 N. Southport Ave., is unlike any other bowling alley.

Built in the early 1900’s, the bowling lanes still use ‘pinboys’ as a way to return bowling balls back to participants rather than a commonly seen automatic return. Although it may seem unusual, the use of real people working behind the scenes on the lanes attracts a wide variety of customers. Southport Lanes encourages the opposite of what modern bowling does today as games are leisurely and hand scored. Customers can also choose to play candle-

With spring break right around the corner, students must be itching for a chance to remove themselves from school entirely. Here are some ideas for how to spend your spring break without breaking the bank.

Day Trips Chicago ($50) Spend the day in the city and be sure to hit up plenty of free attractions, such as the Chicago Cultural Center, or the Botanic Gardens. Enjoy delicious and inexpensive meals in the ethnic communities, like Pilsen, Greektown, or Chinatown. Metra trains running from nearby Lisle, Downers Grove, or Naperville run at $6.25 for a one-way adult weekday ticket, or you can drive and find reduced parking prices using apps like SpotHero.

Weekend Trips St. Louis ($150-200) Check out St. Louis for the weekend. Book a hotel for around $120 a night and make the drive down with a handful of friends.

With St. Louis University located in the heart of downtown St. Louis, the nightlife is sure to offer great food and entertainment.

Camping ($75-100) Weather permitting, take the outdoors a step further by going camping.

Camp Sullivan in Oak Forest, just 40 minutes from COD, offers great amenities and campsites. Nonresidents of Cook County pay between $30 per night for a tent site, or $51 per night for a small cabin. If you don’t own camping gear, the campground office offers rental equipment.

Weeklong trips

($350-450) Book a round trip economy flight and stay in a hostel to maximize your spending money. Popular destinations are Daytona Beach or the Keys in Florida, but if the beach isn’t your scene, check out New Orleans or Denver. Hostels charge anywhere from $35 to $60 per adult per night, but some offer discounted student rates. If you decide to bring some friends, consider splitting the price of an Airbnb for a bit more comfort. Spirit Airlines offers famously cheap airfare for around $100 round trip.

Hiking ($25-30) Explore the great outdoors by spending the day hiking. Pack a picnic, and grab some friends.

Offering 11 miles of hiking trails and plenty of beautiful scenery, Waterfall Glen is just a 20-minute drive from campus.

If you want to make a road trip out of the day, head an hour and a half downstate to Starved Rock State Park, where the view is just as beautiful, and the variety of terrain is a little more complex.

SHOULD THE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS SCANDAL MAKE ME ANGRY? Joey Weslo, Assignment Reporter wesloj@dupage.edu For my eighteenth birthday, my parents bought me a used acoustic guitar and hiking boots. Bruce Isackson, president of a Californian real estate firm, spent $350,000 to buy his daughter into the University of Southern California.

After federal prosecutors made public their investigation into the largest college admissions scandal in history, angry students filed

a litany of civil and class-action lawsuits claiming the bribery and racketeering prevented them a fair opportunity of admission.

Over 50 people, including Hollywood elites, business magnates, admissions officers and athletic coaches are accused of using William Singer, a college admissions counselor, to bribe their children into highly-selective universities.

Among the implicated schools in

FBI investigation “Operation Varsity Blues” are Yale, Georgetown, Stanford, Wake Forest, USC, UCLA and the University of Texas.

Overzealous parents using their wealth to perpetuate the family’s elite status is nothing new in college admissions. Well documented examples, like Charles Kushner donating $2.5 million to Harvard in 1998, to buy his son, Jared, ad-

mission have been dirty secrets for decades. Affluence and privilege have always sanctified a type of affirmative action for the wealthy.

While top schools have rightfully turned to diversity in their selections, donor lists and legacy admissions still ensure segregation along economic lines.

ified applicant who doesn’t come from a family of trust funds and wealthy connections? Will the admission of less deserving rich kids really prevent me from attending an elite school?

Prosecutors allege parents paid Singer and his college consultant company $25 million to help doctor students’ admission tests, create false athletic profiles and bribe coaches and admission officers.

Singer used staged or photoshopped pictures of the clients’ children playing athletics in which they never actually participated.

Singer also had parents seek fictitious learning disability exemptions for their children so they could take the ACT or SAT with extra time and in isolation. This allowed the company to tamper with the test answers or have a more intelligent person take the test for the student.

Bruce Isackson used the company to qualify one daughter as a fake rowing recruit for USC. In 2015, Isackson also traded $251,000 of Facebook Inc. stock to have his elder daughter recruited as a fake soccer player for UCLA. Even U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, a champion of using wealth to gain an educational advantage, condemned the fraud and bribery.

“Every student deserves to be considered on their individual merits when applying to college,” said DeVos. “It’s disgraceful to see anyone breaking the law to give their children an advantage over others.”

However, what exactly qualifies as an advantage over other children? Should I be outraged at this egregious violation of the law, or should I direct my attention to the legal advantages given to affluent students? What are the true obstacles hindering equal consideration

in admissions?

The admissions scandal seems perfectly made for instigating public outrage, yet, its exposure hardly seems shocking. All students are taught how competitive the field is.

Does the admissions scandal really change how stacked we feel the odds are against us?

Prospective students are left to wonder if the leg-up for the affluent and well-connected is more detrimental to the admissions of a qualified applicant. How do we best ensure an admissions process based upon merit rather than social status? Do legacy students and children of rich donors crowd out

Adam Serwer, a journalist for The Atlantic, noted the hypocrisy in the public’s outrage at the recent admissions scandal.

“It’s vitally important that rich people buy their way into the Ivy League the old fashioned way,” Serwer sarcastically tweeted.

Generations of wealthy and influential families have built the prestigious universities into the elite schools they are today. However, admission practices have always served to marginalize poorer applicants and segregate racial minorities. Such practices have propagated the consolidation of social power and influence and helped rich families prevent the loss of their elite status in the American business world.

With such high-stakes facing students to gain access to this coveted social status, the rich have positioned affirmative action as the true

In the lawsuit, Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard (2018), plaintiffs argued elite schools’ admission practices using discriminatory racial quota prevents Asian Americans with higher test scores from admission.

Conservatives have demonized diversity selections as the real impediment to non-discriminatory admissions. Opponents of affirmative action have highlighted the artificial growth of racial makeups and instances of fraud, like T.M. However, the New York Times reported, of the top 38 elite colleges in America, there are more students from the top 1% wealthiest families in America than the

bottom 60%.

The disparity is made more shocking when you consider the admission rate for Harvard’s Class of 2022 was just under 5%, while the admission rate for legacy students was 33.6%. Along with legacies, athletes, children of faculty, and applicants on the Dean’s or Director’s List comprise 29% of all students admitted into Harvard.

Singer’s company took advantage of athletic admissions because even at Harvard, recruited athletes face an 86% admission rate. The secret told to parents should be, if you want your child to attend an elite university, teach them how to row or fence.

While some fear the special attention given to affluent children solidifies generational privilege, USC admissions have said, “We are proud to educate multiple generations of Trojans and, in any given year, legacy admissions make up 13-19% of each incoming class.”

To examine the prevalence of legacy admissions, Harvard researcher Michael Hurwitz analyzed 2007 admission applicants at the 30 most highly selective colleges in the country.

Hurwitz’s study found students who were “legacy” applicants (any familial connection to the university) received a 23.3% increase in admissions probability. “Primary legacy” applicants (parents graduated from the university) received a 45.1% increase.

With the most selective universities having an average base acceptance rate of just under 10%, this disparity can prove drastic in the applicant’s success. The highly competitive nature of admissions positions students of similar academic credentials against each other. In the selection process, any distinction becomes magnified.

If a non-legacy student faced a 10% chance of admission, an

OPINION equally qualified primary legacy student would face a 55% chance.

Hurwitz’ study found legacy status mattered more for highly-qualified students with greater SAT scores. His report stressed legacy status mattered less for rich kids with poorer grades.

Hurwitz also noted, of the 290,000 plus applications he analyzed, only about 6% of students qualified for legacy status.

Yes, legacies are given preferential treatment, but if you were denied from a highly-selective school, the vast majority of students accepted were simply more qualified than you.

A Buzzfeed article titled “Confessions of a College Admissions Officer,” dispelled the notion that having money guarantees admission. The officer stated schools are not desperate for money; dumb rich kids still primarily get reject-

ed. The officer stated it takes tens of millions of dollars in donations to get your child noticed.

However, the officer does admit to arbitrariness and preferential treatment in the selection process.

Students whose parents are connected with a trustee, are friends of the president, kids of faculty, or whose parents have made large financial donations are flagged as “important to the university” and considered by a separate admissions committee.

The Dean’s and Director’s Interest Lists at Harvard have become infamous for applying special treatment to wealthy donors and people of interest to the school.

However, these students are still in the extreme minority, and the vast majority of those accepted had test scores and academic credentials qualifying their application.

15 This positions the question: do admissions offices depend too heavily on standardized test scores? Does this over-dependence increase or decrease diversity?

The University of Chicago has become the first elite school to allow applicants to opt out of providing scores from the SAT or ACT. Joining schools like DePaul University, the admissions process values GPA and extra-curricular credentials more highly than standardized test scores. They believe standardized tests favor more affluent students who can afford coaching or classes to increase their scores. This puts minority students at a disadvantage and decreases diversity on campus.

Critics say standardized tests allow schools to equally evaluate students from different schools, backgrounds and states.

cesses decrease or increase discrimination in the selection process?

If elite schools valued high scores less, the kind of fraud committed

by Singer and his company would prove ineffectual in gaining an advantage in admissions.

People who are feigning outrage and students who are filing lawsuits should take a second and view the entire admissions process.

Exactly what is the problem you are trying to root out? If you truly have been denied admission to a less qualified student, are you sure your anger is directed at the right target?

WE ENDORSE DUNNE AND CORRIGAN FOR BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTION Kimberly Wilson, Opinion Editor wilsonk767@dupage.edu

Two trustee seats are up for grabs in the April 2 College of DuPage Board of Trustees election. Four candidates, Maureen Dunne of Naperville; Dan Bailey and Annette Corrigan of Wheaton, and Marc Incrocci of Darien, are currently running for office.

A “joint leadership role” between the COD president and board is paramount for Corrigan, who also says COD students can expect her to have a strong presence on campus if she is elected. “I just do better face-to-face, talking with people. I don’t know if that’s old school or not, but I just feel like you get more out of an interaction

with a person if you do it face-toface.”

To combat the recent decline in enrollment COD has faced, Corrigan states the college needs to implement and promote new programs. If elected, she intends to be a champion of COD’s Developmental Disability Program, a program in which she says her son, who has special needs, will be taking classes in this fall. Corrigan believes this and other programs will attract more students to the college.

“When people realize that there is a program in place...there is such a need in DuPage County for peo-

ple like my son who want to advance their education, who want to find jobs, career development.

This is gonna explode.”

Marc Incrocci, who sees the board of trustees as “executive champions,” agrees with Corrigan in that the college needs to implement new programs to aid in increasing enrollment. Incrocci feels more trade programs will be valuable.

“I felt like trades is a nice fit because there are existing facilities and infrastructure, and going back to being an executive champion, my role would be to assist the college to bring trade employers to

the college to help with establishing those programs.”

Incrocci also stated that to help increase enrollment, more emphasis needs to be placed on making students aware of the wide array of scholarship opportunities available to them to aid with the cost of tuition.

“Like again with the trade programs–and I’m blanking on the name–there’s a federal grant [available to all the public] of $500 million that was unused in 2017 because no one knew it was there. There’s money out there for students, and we need to make it very clear to them.”

OPINION Both Corrigan and Incrocci believe the main issue facing the board of trustees moving forward is to find a new president for the college. “I think that with the departure of Dr. Rondeau, I think that people are really anxious to have some consistency in leadership” stated Corrigan. Incrocci echoed Corrigan’s sentiments and stated the president must be “stable,” “strong,” and “compassionate” and must also be able to “reach all parts of the organization.”

Maureen Dunne believes being a former student of COD will give her “an informed perspective” as a board of trustees member on the many issues facing students at the college.

“I have an understanding of what credits don’t transfer and why and which ones easily do transfer.

So I know [that] one big concern when students come here is–the ones that do wanna transfer to a four year school– are their credits going to transfer? What can we do better to make that a smoother process?”

Dunne, who has previously co-founded and ran technology companies, states she will be able to have an appreciation for students who are interested in entrepreneurship and technology. “I’ve been involved in a lot of projects [at COD] that I would continue doing and bring a new perspective to the board.”

Dunne has also met with faculty on expanding autism programs at the college and has set up a scholarship at COD for students with the disability.

Dan Bailey, who is also a former COD nursing student, is interested in making COD affordable and accessible for all students.

“Some people don’t have cars.

Some people might be immigrants or LGBTQ. There’s a lot of things that might impede someone from

being able to fully use the college, and I would think we would wanna reach out [and] find out what it is that would make them feel more welcome and make sure that their needs are met.”

To solve the issue of declining enrollment, Dunne thinks the board needs to have more conversations about adding more STEM and autism programs to the college. She also believes there is room to expand online courses in the technology field. “...With my background in educational technology, I think there’s a real opportunity to offer more quality classes online.”

If elected, Bailey says he would like to focus on marketing COD as “a fast track to good education or a good job” in order to increase enrollment. Bailey also stated the board being more welcoming of immigrants would aid in drawing more students to the college.

Courier Endorsement We endorse Dunne and Corrigan for election.

As a former student, Dunne will be able to more clearly understand and empathize with the needs of current COD students. Dunne’s current volunteer work with the college will make for a smooth transition on the board of trustees. Not only will she already have knowledge of many of the issues facing students, but she is already working with faculty towards solutions.

Corrigan’s willingness to work and communicate with members of the COD community to resolve current issues facing the college makes her a good candidate for the position. Her plan to further promote COD’s Developmental Disabilities program will hopefully lead to an increase in enrollment and help more students with disabilities gain a good education here at the college.

There’s something about The Weeknd’s slow, deep voice that sets his sound apart from other artists. Although his voice is unique, I would still consider him to be an R&B artist because of the instrumentals he uses along with his choice of lyrics. My favorite song by The Weeknd is Often both because of his vocals and the catchier lyrics that I can sing along with. He was also a contributor to the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie soundtrack where he sang Earned It in the first movie. In reality, any song by The Weeknd or from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack is going to be a safe bet when picking out the best baby making jams.

As a married woman not ready for children, I actively avoid listening to any baby making jams in an effort to avoid actual babies. I also actively avoid watching what I casually refer to as “garbage films.” That said, when “Fifty shade of Grey” came out this song was unavoidable and, compared to even the idea of the film, I didn’t hate it. It helps that Ellie Goulding has an amazing voice and a uniquely recognizable sound. The song stands on its own as tolerable in an era of pop-music filled with less than subtle, sexual lyrics.

Hozier outdid himself with this track from his new album, “Wasteland, Baby!” Gravely vocals and a rich guitar riff make this track intense and dark, not unlike Arctic Monkeys’ “Do I Wanna Know?”

Hozier explores a more blunt side to his song writing, and features plenty of sexually charged lyrics you’d expect from a baby making song. While Hozier isn’t typically among artists you’d expect for this topic, he definitely deserves a shout-out for this record.
