WAITING LIST

If registering for a class already filled, your name can be placed on a waiting list. That does not guarantee your spot, but individuals will be contacted if one becomes available.

CANCELED CLASSES/SESSIONS

If a class/session is canceled, every effort will be made to notify parents and students by telephone before the first class meeting. Refunds will be processed within 30 days of cancelation by check. No cash refunds will be issued.

WITHDRAWALS & REFUNDS

Classes and programs are subject to a $21 transfer/cancelation fee. Refunds are processed within 30 days of request by check. No cash refunds will be issued.

TSUNAMI SWIM TEAM • REGISTRATION: MARCH 4-JUNE 30

Participants are introduced to competitive swimming while gaining strength and stroke confidence. Swimmers are encouraged to participate in NWAL and TAAF meets.

*$10 discount for each additional sibling that is registered. The fee for one child will be waived for parents who become certified officials and work a minimum of three meets.

QUALIFICATIONS: Participants must be able to swim the length of a 25-yard pool (any stroke) unassisted and be registered in the College Station Independent School District or live in a city that does not have a swim team.

TSUNAMI SWIM TEAM: MEET THE COACH NIGHT & EVALUATIONS

Parents and swimmers are invited to learn more about the Tsunami Swim Team and meet the coaches. Swimmers will be introduced to how practices and meets work, meet fellow swimmers, try on swimsuits, and participate in evaluations. Evaluations are required for new and returning swimmers to help coaches place them in the appropriate practice groups and provide the best opportunity for skill development. Parents will complete administrative items, sign up for volunteer opportunities, and have questions answered. On-site team registration will be available. You only need to attend one night, and registration is not required.

ADULT PROGRAMS

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING: BLENDED LEARNING

REGISTRATION: DEC. 11-MONDAY BEFORE FIRST SESSION DAY

Are you looking for a great summer job or a challenging career? Get lifeguard certified! You’ll learn patron rescue, surveillance skills, first aid, and CPR/AED through videos, group discussions, and hands-on practice. Successful participants receive CPR/AED and lifeguarding certifications for two years. Participants must attend each class during their session at the times listed and be prepared to enter the water daily. In addition, candidates must pass written and practical exams. Visit redcrossstore.org/store to download a lifeguard manual or purchase the required books. The City of College Station lifeguards must be at least 16 years old.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Complete seven hours of online training before 5 p.m. of the first session day.

• Be able to swim 300 yards continuously in the following order (no time requirement): 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing (to the side or front) and a stabilizing, propellant kick; 100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breath, kick, and glide sequence; and 100 yards of either the front crawl, breaststroke, or combination.

• Be able to swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke (starting in the water), surface dive 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point while maintaining two hands on the object, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

• Be able to tread deep water without using your hands for two minutes.

• Must be mature and dependable.

RECERTIFICATION: The fee is $85, and you must provide proof of ARC certification to participate Recertification candidates must report to the Sunday class at noon. Candidates can attend CPR/AED/First Aid retraining on Saturday morning.

SESSION 1

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION

REGISTRATION: DEC. 11-MONDAY BEFORE FIRST SESSION DAY

Become a certified Red Cross water safety instructor. Learn to teach children and adults how to swim and give water safety presentations. Participants must attend each class during the designated times. There are no makeup days. Be prepared to enter the water on each day during your session. Participants will need to complete an online orientation before the first class date. Two manuals may be purchased or downloaded from redcrossstore.org/store and brought to each class: “Water Safety Instructor” and “Swimming and Water Safety.” After registering, candidates will be emailed with more details and where to find the required materials.

Cost: $150 (Must be 16 yrs. of age by the completion of the class)

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be 16 years old by the last day of class.

• Must complete 6 hours of online learning before the first in-class session day.

• Must pass a pre-course swimming skills test (Red Cross Level 4 swimming skills).

• Must be able to tread water for one minute and float on your back for one minute.

SWIM LESSONS • REGISTRATION: APRIL 1 THROUGH FIRST SESSION DAY

It is essential to review all sections of the Swim Parent Handbook, located online at cstx.gov/swim , before enrolling your child in lessons.

Adaptive Aquatics is individualized swimming instruction for those with special needs. Class duration will vary from 25 to 45 minutes per lesson based on the swimmer’s needs and abilities. Cost is based on the length of class and household residency status. An adult must remain in the facility and may be asked to assist the participant in the water. To register, complete the Adaptive Aquatics Questionnaire form online at cstx.gov/ pools; then, a staff member will contact you to schedule lessons. Participants develop athleticism through speed and agility training in a positive environment. Coaches emphasize conditioning, footwork, strength, and the formation of positive attitudes.

FUNDAMENTAL FIELD HOCKEY

FUNdamental Field Hockey introduces participants to the game by engaging them in core concepts, rules, skills, and strategy. A former college player with high school and college-level coaching experience teaches the eight-week program. Equipment is provided, cleats and shin guards are recommended, and mouth guards are required.

EMPOWER RUN CLUB

The enrichment running club for children focuses on teaching powerful life lessons. The program caters to all fitness levels by incorporating traditional drills and games to empower children by developing character. Participants engage in a productive workout, building both strength and self-confidence. They also can compete, pursue goals, and enjoy themselves.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE LEAGUE • REGISTRATION: DEC. 11-MARCH 1

BCS Ultimate runs the coed league. Individual or team registration is available, and team rosters may include up to 12 players. Teams field five men and two women at a time. Each team plays two games per night, with the first game starting at 6:30 p.m. Games are played on a 70x40-yard field and follow USA Ultimate rules. Individuals participate in an evaluation night, followed by a draft.

You don’t have to travel far to create fun memories with your friends and family. The Gary Halter Nature Center invites you to camp out on the night of Friday, April 5 or 19. Choose your adventure or join us for favorites such as a hot dog dinner, storytelling, s’mores, and a night hike. We will even help you learn camping basics and discover the creatures that call Lick Creek Park home at night. The family-friendly event begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 7 a.m. on Saturday. Campers must bring a tent, supplies, snacks, and drinks. Electricity is not provided, so pack flashlights, tent lanterns, sleeping bags, insect repellents, and folding chairs. Limited spots are available, and registration ends the Wednesday before camp. The cost is $8 per person. Children must be accompanied by an adult (18+), and pets aren’t allowed.

The Yang-style Tai Chi class teaches students advanced skills and forms not included at the beginner level. Ideal students will already have mastered basic skills and know Yang from 16. The intermediate level focuses on longer forms and perfecting skills from the beginner-level class. The instructor assesses potential participants to ensure placement at the proper level based on skills and experience.

The entry-level Yang-style Tai Chi course is for students of various skill levels. Linda Didsbury, an experienced cognition coach for children and adults since 2017, is the instructor for this class. With 14 years of certification as a Heartfulness Meditation Trainer, she provides free training for individuals seeking a personal experience of a heart-centered, self- development approach to meditation.

GENTLE SENIOR MEDITATION CLASS

Embark on a journey to relaxation and find your state of flow through gentle, guided movements, most of which are done while seated. This class offers you the chance to unwind your body, quiet your thoughts, and tap into the inner strength that resides within you. It’s a space where you can cultivate community with your peers and, more importantly, within yourself. Join us in this dedicated class that seeks to harmonize your physical and mental well-being, fostering increased agility in both body and mind. Kalea Hartman, a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Pre-Med Public Health, teaches this class.

CHAIR VOLLEYBALL

More fun than you can stand - while seated! The game is perfect for working on upper-body mobility and joint flexibility. It enhances muscle tone, reflexes, hand-eye coordination, and endurance. It is played with a beach ball and a net, and participants must remain seated.

The group collaborates with the Parks and Recreation Department to develop programs, events, and activities to serve seniors. Visitors are welcome.

Take a nostalgic trip back and enjoy some of your favorite songs from the 1940s to the 1970s. Be a star by singing or playing games and having a great time! We’ll supply water, soda, and popcorn.

QUILTING BASICS • RSVP BY JAN. 15

The six-week program offers individuals with little to no experience in quilting the chance to learn and practice machine quilting techniques. The covered skills include fabric selection, rotary cutting, piecing, quilting, and binding. Specialized quilting tools will be provided. Participants can choose to use the provided fabric or purchase their own for completing quilted projects based on traditional pieced quilt block patterns. Completed projects will encompass hot pads, placemats, and a multi-block design suitable for use as a table runner or centerpiece/wall hanging. Participants must bring sewing machines in good working condition and basic sewing supplies like thread, scissors, pins, etc. Space is limited. Middle of the week blues? Join us at Wolf Pen Creek Park for Food Truck Wednesdays. Enjoy yard games and music while savoring a meal from local food trucks. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets, but alcohol, glass containers, and pets are prohibited. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Free parking is available at the Meyer Senior and Community Center along Colgate Drive. We’ll announce the food trucks on the city’s Facebook and X (Twitter) pages the Monday before each event.

Bring your blankets, chairs, and picnic baskets to the Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater to enjoy family-friendly movies on our 32-foot inflatable, high-definition screen. Admission is free. The gates open at 7 p.m., followed by the film at 8. Guests may bring refreshments, but coolers must be 48 quarts or smaller. Alcohol and glass containers are not allowed, and food will be available for purchase. There is free parking at Post Oak Mall, with handicapped parking near Colgate Drive. Sorry, pets are not allowed.

PARK RULES

NEIGHBORHOOD PARK CURFEW: 11 P.M.-5 A.M. COMMUNITY PARK CURFEW: 1-5 A.M.

• No campfires, dunking booths, hot air balloons, pony rides, sidewalk chalk, crawfish, bounce houses, or livestock without prior approval.

• Confetti and glitter are prohibited.

• No tents or RV Camping without approval by Parks Staff.

• Pavilions may be used if not rented; however, access to kitchen or restroom facilities will not be allowed.

• Athletic Fields must be reserved separately from pavilion rentals.

• Courts (tennis, pickleball, and basketball) are open on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved.

• Dogs must always be restrained unless at a designated dog park.

• All wildlife in city parks is protected.

• It is unlawful to:

‐ Cut, dig, or destroy vegetation.

‐ Wade or swim in park ponds.

‐ Litter in city parks.

‐ Fail to clean up after your pet on public property.

• All vehicles must park in designated areas on pavement only.

• Non-city-related advertising in city parks is prohibited unless specified by a contract.

• Any person wishing to sell any items (food, drinks, shirts, caps, etc.) in a park must apply for a Park Vendor’s Permit at the Parks and Recreation Office 979.764.3486 and possibly a Health Permit from the Brazos County Health Department 979.361.4450.

• Golfing or (practice) driving of golf balls in the parks is prohibited.

• Off-road vehicles are not allowed in city parks.

• All gyms, boot camps, and fitness groups must purchase a Park Vendor Permit through the Stephen C. Beachy Central Park office (1000 Krenek Tap Rd.) or 979.764.3486 to host workout sessions at city parks.

• Please obey all “FIELDS CLOSED” signs.

• Glass bottles and containers are prohibited.

• Alcohol may be consumed in city parks by adults 21 years of age or older. If you have a function where alcohol is served, neither the alcohol nor anything else can be sold without a TABC license.

• Fishing in park ponds is free and open to the public. Texas Community Fishing Lake special regulations, as well as statewide regulations, apply to all city ponds. For special and statewide regulations, fishing license information, and daily bag limits, contact Texas Parks and Wildlife.

• While in heat, dogs are prohibited from using designated dog parks.

• Dogs younger than four months of age are not allowed in off-leash parks.

• Any dog over four months of age must be rabies vaccinated and registered with Brazos County. Registration tags can be purchased through your vet or the Aggieland Humane Society.

• Your dog must wear their current county and rabies vaccination tags. Registration shall cover one year from the date of issuance in conjunction with the rabies vaccination date.

• Acts of aggression against other dogs are prohibited. Dogs must be removed if uncontrollable.

• Handlers must stop dogs from digging holes in a park and cover up holes created by their dogs.
