1997 20 Years of

A long time ago in a

a plucky band of re

empire to save th

from the ravages of More accurately in 1997 a group of park users & local residents campaigned to persuade Birmingham City Council not to decommission Cotteridge Park. The campaign was a success and the group decided a party was the best way to celebrate. And so from little Funday acorns was the mighty CoCoMAD born. For the first few years it was no more than a super duper Summer fete. There were stalls and games and the catering was Maggie and Kath buttering sandwiches and making tea from a borrowed urn. But then someone had the great idea that there should be a stage and music and lovely food and 20 years later here we are.

Main Stage

12:30 The Taskers

A five piece who make loud, honest and original music. The band was born out of a love for sludgy 90’s guitar riffs, but the introduction of piano, cello and violin has given a chance to experiment with everything from acoustic folk to drum machine driven house

13:30 The Uke Men League Men, sheds, ukuleles, 1980’s pop, facial hair....what’s not to like?!

14:30 The Lost Notes

Infectious original tunes rooted in three-part vocal harmony and driven by a dynamic rhythm section. Foot-stomping, hand-clapping, heart-singing, rootsy brilliance. .

15:30 Birmingham Opera Company See opposite page

16:00 High Horses

Three songwriters bringing a diverse, soulful, harmony-centric take on folk-rock. 100% Beefed Up Folk - 0% Horse.

17:10 Independent Country

Howdy, bab - a 7-piece band based in Birmingham, new versions of songs by Happy Mondays, Blur, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Oasis, Teenage Fanclub and others.

18:15 Misty’s Big Adventure

And to celebrate CoCoMAD’s 20th Anniversary the return of our all time favourites. Just one year older than CoCoMAD itself, their music is a joyous mix of pop, ska, jazz, indie, psychedelia, folk, punk, lounge and more. They do not kowtow to fashion and the music industrial estate. They are like if Abba had been weird. Today’s Intermission sounds are by Parklife Social.

Cycling at The joy of a festival in your favourite local park is that you don’t need to drive to it – which is a good thing as there is NO parking at CoCoMAD. But CoCoMAD is a great festival for cyclists.

Decorate your bike and join a led ride to take part in the carnival parade. Led rides are setting off at 10am from: Kings Norton Park, Stirchley Baths and Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre Free bike hire for adults – bring your Leisure Card There will be a supervised bike park and a fantastic variety of FREE cycling activities throughout the day. For more information go to: www.birmingham.gov/bbb or phone 0121 464 1020 And if you don’t cycle, Bournville Train station is five minutes’ walk from the park and there is also a wide selection of buses that stop nearby. http://journeyplanner.networkwestmidlands.com/ BIG BIRMINGHAM BIKES LOGO (COLOUR VERSION)

Re-cycling at A festival can be a messy and irresponsible beast. This year, to reduce the amount of rubbish that goes to landfill or is incinerated, CoCoMAD is teaming up with Birmingham Green Party to increase the amount of festival waste that is recycled. There will be rubbish and recycling bags & bins available across the site. Your job is to separate your rubbish in to the right bins & bags and to take your separated waste to the recycling centre up by the loos. Together we can keep Cotteridge Park tidy for everyone to enjoy.
