Will McGrath BA Hons Product Design
His tailored bags where designed to be personal to the consumer, which made it one of a kind. The creation of carrying your life on your back fashionably was ingenious, because by just opening your personalised bag you could see the profession or lifestyle you lead. Tools of life are essential to everyone. The unfolding story that is unravelled by a buckle draws you into the extension built on your back. I had a chance to meet the creator myself and he was excited bout what he had produced. The first thing he said was: “We are living in a time when the customisation of products just isn’t personal enough.” This got me feeling you are so right! How bold and simple was his concept. Manifest is the next-generation of customisation; we’ve done it with sports footwear and clothing, so why not bags (backpacks). Will mentioned that he likes how the balance of personality the configurator has which then enables a collaborative design with the user.
Will McGrath Innovated approach to product design was by far the most outstanding piece I saw at the Truman show. His product ‘Manifest’ articulated everything that is university or creative life.
Manifest gives the user free rain to pick whatever they want from the closure down to the pattern and materials implemented into your product. Furthermore the composition of modernity, simplicity and style of the bags embody that rectilinear shape mainstreamed everywhere. Thus the durable canvas gives comfort to the user in an attractive and stylish way. www.willmcgrath.co.uk
Charlotte Bibby BA Hons Photography Charlotte Bibby’s work caught my eye as I wondered into the dungeon like tunnels of the Truman show. The strong layout of simplicity mesmerized my mind with a mono feel of life, not because everything looks better in black and white, but of the story behind each picture in its purest form. I wanted to know what the story was behind each: reflection, light, and surroundings. Travel was the first mirage, which drew me in to Charlotte’s world and as I read through her monologue, I felt connected to what she was trying to say. Stepping behind the fisheye lens of a Hitch-hiker modernised! She striped bare and made it personal to her. Even though her work was something I would translate into my on works and she executed the contrast of commercial style through out, I felt like there was something missing. If she added just in one of her photos, a shadow or figure of a person to show the contrast of travelling through Europe, this could of brought it to a different level. I know that in some respect it could shift the balance of Charlotte’s theme but some type of personal reflection could of made it more intriguing to find out who was the figure in the picture and why are they there!
We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented.
Cue the sun!
I have given Truman the chance to lead a normal life. The world, the place you live in, is the sick place
He was born in front of a live audience.
Emma Maloney BA Hons Fine Art Emma Maloney’s dare I say magnificent sculpture! was by far the most stunning piece I have ever seen. Being a huge fan of light reflective layering, the boxed dimensions sent you through a cave of landscape space powered by vintage 35mm colour slide negatives. This piece also felt like it ha a travel theme about it, I recognised a few of the destinations by glance. I wanted to know more about this piece but unfortunately all here business cards were gone. If I had the chance I would of asked a few questions like, “what inspired you?” “Was this the outcome you expected?” “How long did it take you to build this structure?” “What is this made out of?” The only thing that could have adapted this presentation that step further, was a few more sculptures which looked at other materials of layering like stone, or mirrors. I think the final piece was breathtakingly beautiful literally! I always thought I knew what fine art was but seeing Emma’s piece it’s way more complex than what you see in the textbooks.
Lily-Mae West BA Hons Fine Art
Lily-Mae’s presentation was a beauty in its own. She captured the delicate being of flowers. I was intrigued by the enclosed jars the sat upon the shelf with these dried up flowers imbedded inside. Innocence prevailed through out her presentation. It was simple yet so complex at the same time. She showed a diverse structure in her concept with photos/paintings placed in simple mono frames. I was soothed by her approach of capturing nature in it most interesting form.

You’re the star.
You were real. That’s what made you so good to watch...
If his was more than just a vague ambition, if he was absolutely determined to discover the truth, there’s no way we could prevent him.
Maxi Spieker BA Hons Graphics
Maxi’s project produced a monthly magazine called ‘unequal’ it show cases photography from a specific borough in London. The Photographic complex of the magazine shows diverse parts of the monthly chosen borough. As presented the first issue is presented is Notting hill. I enjoyed the chrome feel of a high quality newspaper. It showed character and had an artsy feel to it. Graphically this was presented well and had a independent sensation to it.
Dovile BertulyteBA Hons Jewellery
Dovile Bertulyte’s Water Phobia collection showed 7 initial pieces of emotions felt with having a phobia of some sort. Mentally you feel helpless and all your senses are heightened to the point that makes you venerable to your fear. The pieces Dovile presented mirrored the sentiments suffered with the fear of water. Panic, pain, fear of death and drowning where reflected by the restricted anxiety found with a water phobia in her body pieces. The piece that looked like a caged rib of a skeleton was powerful to me because that feeling you get when you can’t breathe underwater and your lungs start to tighten, that piece expressed that feeling admirably.
Why? We’re getting higher ratings for this graphic than we’ve ever had on this show.
That’s our hero shot.
We’ve become bored with watching actors give us phony emotions. We are tired of pyrotechnics and special effects.
While the world he inhabits is, in some respects, counterfeit, there’s nothing fake about Truman himself.
BETH ANDERSON BA Hons FDSP
Beth Anderson’s presentation made me feel like I was in a trance of some sort. It had a sense of social media flare to it. The first thought I got from it was very tumblr inspired, the second was online blogging. The layout was digitally surreal, like your own world that you could step into and create your inspirations and thoughts. There was a strong sense of collaging from different designers And artists which was implemented into her work so this became clear that she had a good understanding in her concept. Beth’s film made you want to touch the screen and be sucked into this ultimate universe, where you will experience all of your fantasies in a blink of an eye, then be spat back out into reality. bethgiselle@hotmail.com Check out her video below: http://vimeo.com/65214693
Hannah Bent BA Hons FDSP Hannah Bent’s project caught my eye with imagery she had displayed. All her work focused on the theme of black with white image making. She showed different elements that sums up everything she learnt on the course. Fashion design, styling and promotion were laid out in front of me. She designed t-shirts; produced a zine and correlated this into a styling shoot with shoes. Although I would have liked the imagery of the boots to be blown up to a bigger scale, it still drew me in by that one picture.Hanna’s exhibited her understanding of imaging and the diverse ways you could use that n, for instance, print; branding, logo/symbols and of course photography. There was a strong element of print in her presentation. The use of imagery manipulated over and over again was interesting to observe. Visually It was all a bit busy, but that’s the beauty of if it your eyes wondered around every corner of the pages as I flipped through the pages, egger to see more. hanah.bent1@gmail.com
No scripts, no cue cards. It isn’t always Shakespeare, but it’s genuine. It’s a life.
I know you better than you know yourself.
The point is, I would gladly step in front The point is, I would gladly And step in front of traffic for you Truman. the last We’ve become bored with watching actors of traffic for you Truman. And the last thing I would ever do to you... give us phony emotions. thing I would ever do to you...
... is lie to you.
Elena vait BA Hons FDSP
Elena’s Visually! out. The thinking
project was extremely creative. the structure seemed well thought spectacles upon Spectacles had me about people’s own peripheral vision.
Philological inspiration fleeced through each frame, each one different from the next. Textually I liked the way the glasses had diverse materials on everyone. Elena’s sculptural flare showed her understanding of designing and producing illustrations. elenavait@yahoo.co.uk
GIOVANNA SALEH BA Hons fdsp My first impression of Givanna’s project suggested taxidermy from the remains of animals. Looking further into her project I began to see the beauty of the pieces she collected of these animals. Her aim was “to celebrate animals we love and animals in our environment.” We as people think death can be a gruesome thing if it is not human. But we forget that as people pets/animals are living things too and what we loved about them when they where alive as beautiful creatures, can still be seen after they have passed. It was interesting to witness that Givanna could also see this. She created pieces of jewellery from the natural fortitudes sourced. I saw fleece, fur, even teeth taken to another level of attractiveness represented by accessories and ornaments. The presence I got from observing her project showed me that she was a beautiful, soulful person (no not religious) that had a heart that over looked the unnoticed exquisiteness of animal afterlife. One thing I would of loved too see added to this project would be, to have names or quotes of the story behind how they died and turn it into poetry of some sort to link their life to before they died of natural deaths or been killed from road incidents. www.formalandhide.com giovanna.saleh@gmail.com
KERRY FRANCIS BA Hons FDSP Kerry Francis “Not going to be 21 for long” The title alone done it for me, I was sold! The innovating documentary style imagery, crayoned the effects of film through what looks like a 35mm lens. Ever image had a story as I researched more into Kerry’s inspirations. The 1990’s photographic style portrayed the fashion influences of different people’s experiences at 21, I’m guessing her family and friends. The underdone virtues of the photography drew me to the story each person had, it gave it character and implanted moving complex on film. Being 21 is a big stage in anyone’s life. It’s a starting point of becoming who you want to be. The freedom of speech and direction you want your world to consist of. I liked that Kerry included known designers like Marques’ Almedia who I recently discovered earlier this year and J.W.Anderson. This shows her understanding of the identity of a brand and the correlation it had towards her previous work. www.kerryfrancis.com kerry_d_f@hotmail.com
