COCHRANE
gift guide
2021
Message from Mayor Genung Your small purchases can make a big difference this holiday season. Local businesses make up the fabric of our communities; the heartbeat of our neighbourhoods and the spine of our local economy. These familiar places and the faces behind them make up the spirit of Cochrane, helping us feel connected to our community. That’s why the Town of Cochrane, in partnership with the Cochrane Chamber of Commerce and Cochrane Tourism are kicking off a holiday campaign to encourage Cochranites to support local. In the lead-up to the holiday shopping season and all year round, Cochrane residents can help local businesses thrive and grow by spending their money here in Town. Last year, the #shopcochrane campaign helped to unite our community to support local – this year, it’s just as important for us to band together. Cochrane businesses need our support now more than ever. Whether you order online from local companies, shop safely in person, or simply share your favourite Cochrane brands and businesses with friends and family. Show Cochrane businesses how much you love and support them, and use your influence by tagging #cochraneloveslocal on social media. Look in this guide for inspiration and feel good about helping other Cochranites survive and thrive. I also encourage you to think about local community support groups and give what you can to help others who might be struggling: • Cochrane Helping Hands Society • Cochrane Activettes (Cochrane Food Bank) Visit cochraneloveslocal.com for more ways to take part and have fun while supporting local businesses this holiday season.
Mayor Jeff Genung 2 | 2021 Cochrane Gift Guide
Message from the Cochrane Chamber of Commerce and Cochrane Tourism Collaboration is key when it comes to growing a sustainable business community in Cochrane. The Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce and Cochrane Tourism Association work alongside each other and Cochrane Business Development to further our shared mandate of economic prosperity. When we work together on initiatives like the Cochrane Loves Local program, it allows us to support more businesses in the community and further leverage our efforts for a more impactful outcome. Through the challenges of a global pandemic, we have seen the community come together to support local businesses more than ever before. Cochrane Loves Local was inspired by what was already happening organically. People have been going out of their way to leave reviews, make a shout out and purchase products and services from local vendors. Now, there is a platform to help amplify that. Supporting local means supporting your neighbours, and it’s evident by the stories shared throughout the online campaign and in this year’s Gift Guide, that the appreciation is felt. There are several opportunities for you to support local businesses this holiday season, and plenty of incentives and prizes available when you do. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Pick up your free (empty) gift box at The Holiday Pop-Up Market, located at The Social Spot starting November 20. The box will get you access to special promotions at local businesses. Share pictures of your local purchases online using #cochraneloveslocal Purchase a specially curated Cochrane Loves Local Gift Box. Available at The Holiday Pop-Up Market. Take the Shop Local Challenge and tell us how much you plan on spending locally this season (see page 6) Love Local Food and get a free cooler backpack (details on pg 51)

Throughout this guide, you’ll find several images for inspiration, but we know there’s so much more available in Cochrane! You’re automatically entered to win one of five cash prizes of $100 Cochrane Dollars It’s been said many times through the past few months that “we’re all in this together” and that means: • Supporting our local businesses. Small businesses are an integral part of a community. They’re PERSONAL. They allow us to CONNECT as human beings. Things like: when your favourite restaurant owner already knows your order when you call in... or being greeted by name when you pop in unannounced to your local chiropractor, hair salon, or boutique store. Those simple things mean something. They make you feel good. Those small businesses have made a point of getting to know YOU, because they truly appreciate you. Drs.
