I know it may take awhile to get caught back up, but hang in their, your friends will do all they can to help you come back, or I hope they will. On November 3rd we will NOT be voting for a Republican or a Democrat, but rather we will be casting our ballot for Freedom or Socialism!!! This could be our last issue before the presidential election. I pray to God almighty that you will get out and vote. I have for years been voting by absentee ballot, but with all the screwy stuff going on lately, I think I will just show up and cast my vote for FREEDOM at the polling place. Remember, this is one day that most Republicans are lazy, so don’t be, get out and vote. Don’t be concerned about the polls, rather be concerned about “your” vote counting!!! ********** Have you stopped by The Chicken Coop yet? In 2 years there we paid over $30,000 in rent!!! Think about that! We movd back to Daytona Beach, where we bought a house. It’s an old one but Bianca will have it looking great in no time, of course I don’t have much to say about the decorating end of it, but I did do a bunch of cleaning (it was filthy as it was a rental and set empty for a bit). We are proud of it, but boy o boy, we went through the FHA for a loan, and they put us through the wringer. They sure don’t mind getting personal with and about you, LOL! Our communities lost 2 great men last month. Shaun was one of the best people in the world, and was known by everyone in the Edgewater area. Willing to give you his shirt off his back, he and his precious wife Wendy were what we call “Good People”. He fought the “C” hard, but it finally got him. Rest In Peace my friend, and thank you for always being there for me and my family!!!

Mario made things better when he walked in a place. Always willing to sit down and talk about whatever subject came up. He will be missed by hundreds of locals. Mario passed away in a car accident. I bought one several months ago and put it in a 96 Softtail. I rode it on about a thousand mile road trip, came home parked the bike because it needed an oil change and that was about the time I was going through my feet & knees swelling up, so it sit for 3 months. When we moved I went to get it to take to the new house, pulled the choke up turned the key (the head light was super bright) hit the starter, BAM, one turn & it started. It is the BEST battery I have ever owned, and the warranty is unbelievable!!! ~ Cochise
And the argument continues, as to which Harley Davidson motor is the BEST!!! I believe there will be as many answers to that as there are H-D motors made, so instead of asking which power plant is the best, maybe a better question is, “Which is the most popular?” I’ll start out the selection process at the Flathead and go through the Twin Cam motor, as I don’t think the pre flatty’s are relevant to many today, except Billy Lane, and the Milwaukee 8 really hasn’t been out long enough to really be a contender, yet. The Flathead, both the 45 CI and the 80 CI are very popular among those who own them, but how reliable are they. I have only seen one, that was an 80 CI that was riden on long distances. I am not saying there aren’t more, but..... The 45’s are still seen in many “Servie Cars”, but unless some modifications have been done to them, there top speed is about 50 MPH. I know a lady that owns one and rides it a lot, but long distances, the jury is still out on this case. The Knucklehead! It’s considered the best looking motor ever developed by the motor company, but reliability has always been an issue. Today they bring top dollar, if you can find one, but 40 years ago, you couldn’t give one away. Well, that may be a stretch, but they brought about $500 back then. Again, how many have you see out on the highway, putting down some miles? Me either!!! Then there is the Panhead! “Be A Man, Ride A Pan”, is the motto of those who straddle the infamous Panhead motor! The owners of these machines swear by them, and from what I see, is they ride them often, with many of our locals here like Red and others who have no fear of mounting up on their Panheads and heading off on long distance rides. No one has to sell me on the Panhead motors, as I know Chops 12
what I observe. Yes, many locals own them and don’t ride them like a few around here does, but would they ride any other bike on long trips as well? Sometimes it’s not the motor, it’s the rider, just saying! The Shovelhead! The favorite of the drag racers! The last cast iron motor made! They came in two sizes, the 74 CI and the 80 CI, the latter being (in my opinion the better of the two). I have owned both sizes and I may have owned a dud, but the 74’s is what gave the Shovelhead motor, the nick name “Troublehead”! I have riden Shovelheads (the 80’s) all over America as well as many of my friends. They are good motors and worthy of being just as infamous as it’s predecessor. The Evo! “Evolution Is The Solution”!!! The first aluminum motor, that is why it will never be known as “Old Iron” no matter how many years pass by! I have owned own since 1994, and it has over 150,000 miles on it, and it has only stranded me once (a wrist pin clip broke). To me and many others, the Evolution motor is BULLET PROOF! I am not saying you can’t tear them up, but they will take a lot of abuse and miles without exploding. The amazing thing to me is, if your Evo starts to use some oil or smoke, just pop the top-end off and run a ball hone down the cylinders and replace the piston rings and bolt it back up, and you’re good for another 70,000 miles. Though I love my Shovelhead, I am not nostalgic enough to believe it’s more reliable than my Evo! The Twin Cam, built to tear up, HaHaHa!!! The factory wasn’t making any money on Evo repairs, so they made an engine that needed fixed, often, per chain tensioners. Many love their TC’s, but just as many despise them. The latter models are ok, but the first few years, was trial and error on if they would last. Over all, I would say they have proven themselves to be very reliable, and they can be “beefed up” for some crazy high performance horse power. So which motor is your favorite? I’d say the one you ride the most and if you go long distances or just a bar hopper. For me, I’d take the Evo for the road and either the Pan or Shovel for the rest!!! Chops 13

By Greg Riggle Sr.: Taken On Faith!!! The alarm isn’t even set. It’s 4:40 in the morning. Saturday Morning!! I somehow changed gears from a deep sleep to wide awake in the blink of an eye! But why? Jolted out of total slumber by a fire? A thunderstorm? A tornado? Nope, none of the above. I was jolted out of my zzzz’s by Eager Anticipation! This was going to be a day to remember! Like clockwork, I started the coffee pot, brushed my grill, and started getting dressed. I tried, though unsuccessfully, to be quiet as the Queen of our castle was still asleep. So I thought. I pulled open the garage door only to be met with total darkness and complete silence. As I said, I thought her she was still asleep. But I can hear her beginning her morning routine. So, what would inspire us both to get up this early on a Saturday?! We’re going to a bar, of coarse! Jim and Melanie, owners of the famed “No Name Saloon” in Edgewater told us about a ride they were instrumental in organizing and had invited us to go. The ride, of coarse, was open to anyone. Another ride to the same ‘ol places, same on the same ‘ol roads. Lunch here a drink there then home again. Not Even Close!! This was going to quickly prove itself to a ride of r ides!! We hit the “No Name” about 6:00am, still dark, light traffic, and sparse crowd. (Looks like no one else wanted to come either). So, reluctantly we headed to the starting point of the ride, right where the narrow streets and sidewalks of Flagler Ave. meet the beautiful sand and water on New Smyrna Beach. As we rounded the turn off of Flagler and into the parking lot at the beach, our eyes were greeted with dozens of motorcycles and what looked like a sea of people! “This may be an alright ride after all”, I thought. Threw the kickstand out, and headed towards the boardwalk where everyone else had already gathered. Out from within the bouquet of faces we noticed a couple of familiar ones. “Thin” and Lisa, owners of Evil Twin Motorcycles. This was turning into a pretty good after all. And then, like we were all programmed to, we all began staring at the ocean in almost complete silence. Then it happened!! The sun began to peak at us from where the Heavens meet the sea. The warmth from that sliver of light caressed your face like the sight of a dear, “ol friend. Smiles all around. Once the sun had climbed out of the ocean and was exposed by half, the cell pics began. We also managed some group shots as well. Now, that’s the way to start the day! ! After breakfast at The Beacon on the corner of Flagler and Atlantic, several dozen people, like an orchestrated dance, made their way back to their machines. Then, Chops 20
as the bikes fired off like thunder rolling across the parking lot, the morning silence had been shattered. Just like the morning darkness had been shattered by the sun’s Heavenly glow. We were off. First stop was to offer fuel to our rides just as breakfast had offered fuel to us. Straight west on hwy. 44 to our second stop. The St. John’s river bridge. Just a break for a quick drink, a leg stretch, an underwear check, or whatever. Stayed the coarse, west on 44, a jog over to hwy 46 then west to it’s end. Another jog or two to our third stop. There, we found a concrete corral that would accommodate all of our iron steeds, and left them to cool down for an hour or so. After a relaxing walk around historic Mt. Dora, it was back to the corral and on the road again. After running over a couple of more very scenic paths on which we had never been, we somehow landed on hwy 200 going west which lead us to a place called Stumpknockers. Nestled between the hwy to it’s south, a creek to it’s west, and woods finishing the surrounding decor. Lunch Time!! Somewhere between the third and fourth stop there was another gas and go but I don’t remember where. In fact, truth be told, for a good chunk of this ride I didn’t know where we were, where we were going, or which direction we were even heading!? And, it didn’t matter! Left Stumpknockers to start the last leg of this incredible journey. Several more jogs, many more sights, and ended up on hwy 24 west that dumps you right into a little paradise called Cedar Key. We had all booked rooms there ahead of time so the only thing to do now was get checked in, get cleaned up, grab a drink, and make our war way to the pier for the day’s Grand Finally, Sunset over Fla’s left coast. And, just as the sun’s Heavenly glow had split the night earlier, the sun’s Heavenly glow was pulling the darkness down to the ocean, like a curtain to the end of a play, but to end of the day. What an incredible ride and an Awesome experience!! Because it was .............................”Taken on Faith” Gregg Riggle Sr.

Greetings American Patriots! Are you ready for what is about to come, whether President Trump is re-elected or not. If he is, all hell is going to break loose as the liberal left, Democrats, Antifa and BLM will go on a warlike rampage, attacking and killing people who disagree with them. If Mr. Trump looses, I believe that TRUE AMERICAN’S patriotism will erupt from their very souls and there will be a march on Washington, but not a million man march, but rather a MILLIONS men, women and children march. America will have never seen such a massive rebellion. I do not think right minded Americans are going to lay down (again) and let these unholy fruit cakes take this great nation farther into socialism, ending in full blown communism. I truly believe that these infidels have “poked the sleeping bear” one time too many, and Americans cut from the same mold as George Washington, Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams will FINALLY say, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”, let us take back our country!!! There is a war brewing of epic pre portions! I personally do not see it as a civil war (no war has ever been civil), but more of a cultural or race war, and it’s not that people of color want it, but the mega wealthy want one. They are set on conquering America from within, and the best way to do that is by pitting the poor, especially the ones they keep that way against the middle class, and the top 5% will lay back and watch as they go unscathed. They will fund the poor, because if the poor wins, the rich win, as the wealthy will manipulate them even more by promising them FREE stuff the rest of their and their children’s lives. That top 5% have the money to fund a huge war, with much of the money coming from what they have earned during “their” pandemic virus. ALL box stores have made billions of dollars since March 15th, as the middle class businesses have either gone under or are close to it. (I wonder if Sam Walton is rolling over in his grave?) Just Some Harley Davidson Info!!! Was In WWI!!! In the First World War, many armies began using motorcycles in the field for the first time. As far as the record states, it can be determined that the British were the first to adopt motorcycles for general military use. They made use of the Triumph Model H. These bikes were decent, but not quite up to scratch with a Harley-Davidson. The Americans joined the war in 1917, and promptly ordered thousands of Harley-Davidson motorcycles to issue to the troops. In fact, the US Military ordered over 15,000 bikes. This was a huge jump from the five-bike inventory that the company started out with less than twenty years prior. This order was a boon to the company, and brought their motorcycles even greater public recognition than they already had. They Were Presented With Two Army-Navy ‘E’ Awards An Army-Navy ‘E’ Award is meant to recognize the best firms during times of war. They were invented and presented during World War Two, honoring companies who displayed “excellence in production”. Two of them were granted to Harley-Davidson in the years 1943 and 1945 for their strong commitment to the nation. It is not surprising that they achieved this recognition, as they had created over 90,000 military-grade motorcycles for the war effort. The HarleyDavidson WLA made up most of these bikes (with a few other models in the mix). The WLA even ended up being coined ‘The Liberator’ due to its prominent role in the American war effort. The 1st To Average Over 100 MPH!!! Harley-Davidson Motor Company had originally signed and sponsored a racer named Otto Walker in 1914. Though he ended up getting injured soon after his initial contract, he returned to the scene and participated in the first major race that Harley-Davidson had a stake in. This was a 300-mile race that took place in Venice, California. However, it was not until a few years later that Otto Walker broke records on a Harley. When he won a race in 1921, it was determined that his average speed had been over 100 miles per hour for the entire run. This was the first time that anyone had Chops 27
brought a bike to these kinds of speeds consistently throughout an entire long race. There is a Mechanical Reason Behind the Harley “Sound” The first Harley-Davidson motorcycle engines were designed to use only one set of ignition points, and they lacked a distributor. Thus, both sparks would fire at the same time, regardless of which cylinder was actually active. This helped create the initial Harley ‘sound’. The main force behind the throaty growl of a Harley motor is the 45-degree motor. Because of this particular motor arrangement, there are distinct, uneven intervals between the firing of the cylinders. This causes the sound that Harley-Davidson motorcycles are known for. The firm even tried to trademark the sound at one point but were denied due to the high likelihood of other bikes having a similar sound. It was simply unenforceable. The Oldest Harley-Davidson Club Was Founded in 1928 Back in 1928, famous Czech racer and Harley-Davidson rider B. Turek decided to get married. About sixty fellow Harley-Davidson riders attended his wedding. It was during the reception that they elected to meet up more often, thus forming the very first HarleyDavidson club. This club, which is based in Prague, will be celebrating their 93rd anniversary this year. This is quite an accomplishment – especially considering the fact that they barely survived World War Two. In fact, only about 10% of the members that were in the club before the war remained active afterwards. Despite this, the club remains open to this day and holds the title of the oldest Harley-Davidson organization. They Used to Push the Quietness of their Motorcycles If you look at most ads for Harley-Davidson motorcycles today, you will see that they generally focus on the outlaw, loud, brash side of motorcycling. This mentality is deeply-ingrained into biker culture and has been since at least the 1960s. However, their ads were not always as blatant and brusque. The earliest Harley-Davidson ads on record show that the company initially prided itself on being quiet and refined. In fact, the ads often featured illustrations of respectable-looking men and women, giving the bikes a civilized air. They also marketed their first motorcycles as “The Quiet Gray Gentleman”. This is an interesting juxtaposition to the ads we see today. Chops 28

In which a rockstar describes groupies who sleep with his whole band (pretty racy for an AM hit in 1973). “Cocaine” by J.J. Cale (1975). Recommends cocaine as an aide for erectile dysfunction: “If your thing is gone, and you want to ride on, cocaine.” “Hurricane” by Bob Dylan. (1977) The famous ballad of the boxer Rubin Carter from Paterson, New Jersey. Contains a lyric they used to bleep during radio play: “And to the black folks he was just a crazy n****r. No-one doubted that he pulled the trigger.” “God Save The Queen” by The Sex Pistols (1977). The song was banned in the UK for its “gross bad taste”: it was released in 1977 shortly before HRH Elizabeth II was to celebrate her Silver Jubilee (of 25 years as Queen). “Jesus Christ Superstar” by Andrew Lloyd-Webber (1971). The entire rock opera banned in Hungary, Russia and South Africa, 1971, for being “irreligious”. “Goodbye, Yellow-Brick Road” by Elton John. In 1974, the word “bitch”, in an AM pop song, was still considered a non-family-friendly expletive. Equally audacious when Elton John had a big hit that same year with “The Bitch Is Back”. Or when, in 1978, Billy Joel sang, “Don’t come bitchin’ to me.” (“Big Shot”). “Mama’s Boy” by Suzi Quatro. (1979) Quite possibly a homophobic lyric: “First he holds me too gently, then he touches me— barely. Oh, he’s anything but manly. Don’t know why he hangs around with women; he’s a closet-case with all the trimmin’s. He’s such a pretty thing— he’s a mama’s boy.” “Roxanne” by The Police. (1978) A man begs his girlfriend not to go out and prostitute herself. “You don’t have to put on the red light; you don’t have to sell your body to the night.” “Love to Love You Baby” by Donna Summer with its orgasm sounds was very controversial. “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by Charlie Daniels had to be redone with the lyrics of “Son of a Bitch” changed to “Son of a Gun” because of sensorship.

Just Stuff!!! Daytona Beach Bike Week - Wikipedia Daytona Beach Bike Week, also called Daytona Bike Week, is a motorcycle event and rally held annually in Daytona Beach, Florida. Approximately 500,000 people make their way to the rally area for the 10-day event. The festivities include motorcycle racing, concerts, parties, and street festivals. The event is usually held on the first full week of March (including the Fri-Sat-Sun prior to) and contends with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as the most popular motorcycle rally in the United States. The Daytona Beach Bike Week rally started as the Daytona 200 race on January 24, 1937. This first race was a 3.2 miles (5.1 km) beach and pavement course. It was won by Ed Kretz from California riding an Indian motorcycle with an average speed of 73.34 mph (118.03 km/h). This yearly race took a break from 1942 to 1947 due to World War II. During the years off, an unofficial event was still taking place commonly called Bike Week. In 1947 the official race resumed and gained in popularity. The event was then promoted by “Big Bill” France, co-founder of NASCAR, and the family business (now known as International Speedway Corporation) still promotes the 200 and the entire Bike Week races at Daytona International Speedway, including the Daytona Supercross which is known for its worldclass pyrotechnics and light show. There have been a number of deaths at the festival due to rider accidents, with the most occurring in 2006, with 20 (unverified) people dying. Trademark Dispute In April 2009, a New York-based holding company named Mettemp filed a claim in the State of New York as being the owner of the phrase “Daytona Beach Bike Week.” Daytona Beach area businesses that have marketed T-shirts and other products with this slogan have been contacted by the NY company, claiming infringement of trademark. The Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, which actually sponsors the Bike Week event, has challenged the NY Trademark and has hired the law firm of Cobb Cole to contest Mettemp’s claim and block the New York company’s bid to obtain a federal trademark. In 1991, the Daytona Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau created a second motorcycle festival event in October, named Biketoberfest. Biketoberfest is usually scheduled for the weekend immediately following Columbus Day, although some participants arrive on Columbus Day weekend and visit for the entire week. Part of the fun is a twelve-mile ride along a scenic route, known as the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail.
