My take on the new biker movie The Bike Riders, a take on Danny Lyon’s book of the same name!

It helped knowing the background of the movie, as I had the book, at one time, before I “loaned” it to someone.

I thought the movie was kind of slow, but it moved well enough that your attention was kept. Of the three main actors I think Tom Hardy carried the movie, as others thought the girl did, Jody Comer (?), or Kathy because she was telling the story of the beginning/growth of the club. She was sharing with Mr. Lyons, as he took pictures and audio of her and other club members, and she did good.

Benny, Austin Butler, was very quiet. He probably didn’t say 100 words in the whole show, but did a good job. Overall I’d give it a 4 out of 5, as far as being a movie, and 4.5 in accuracy as far as being very close to what Danny wrote in his book. I liked it enough I came home and rented it, (the 1st time was at the movies), so I could put it on CC, as I couldn’t hear 1/3rd of what they were saying at the show.

What did I take from the movie as a whole, “pains come when you grow”! Just like I had bad pain in my knees as a pre teen, when I hit a growing spurt, so it was the same way with the “Vandals”!

If you haven’t seen it, do it. Just over look things like 80% of the riders, while riding didn’t wear eye protection and instead, focus on the beautiful motorcycles, mostly FLH’s. Also, if you can find the book, as I believe they are making repops of it, get it. The pictures are worth whatever it costs.

Don’t forget the “Blue Plate Special Show”, put on by CHOPS Magazine and The Boot Hill Saloon on September 2nd at The Boot. Starts at 2pm till 4pm, and yes it’s going to be HOT, so.......c ya there!

God’s Corner By Cochise

Eph. 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

Brothers From Different Mothers

At The Boat Bar

The young man you see here is named Kenneth Hallwhich, and he was at the tender age of seven when he collected all his worldly possessions and headed west to Fort Apache from Detroit in January of 1955.

He had his clothes, a couple of toy guns, a toothbrush and hair brush, a teddy bear, a box of his favorite toys, and his bank book, which gave him access to a whole ten dollars and 50 cents.

He hopped on a bus headed from Detroit all the way to the mythical Fort Apache, but police stopped the bus to recover Kenneth before the bus left the city.

He also had $65,000 in play money. He wasn’t running away from home – he just wanted to see the world.

After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, “Who was THAT?”

A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like. “We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods.” The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, “I sure wish I’d gotten to know you sooner!”

A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother, “Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today.” The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. “That’s interesting.” she said. “How do you make babies?” “It’s simple,” replied the girl. “You just change ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add ‘es’.”

Have you ever visited the Gamble Plantation?

The Gamble Mansion or Gamble Plantation, is a Florida State Park which is home to the Florida Division United Daughters of the Confederacy, located in Ellenton, Florida, on 37th Avenue East and US 301.

A 6-year-old was asked where his grandma lived. “Oh,” he said, “she lives at the airport, and whenever we want her, we just go get her. Then, when we’re done having her visit, we take her back to the airport.”

Grandpa is the smartest man on earth! He teaches me good things, but I don’t get to see him enough to get as smart as him!

Dorothy “Dot” Robinson, the wife of dealer Earl Robinson, competed alongside men in endurance races during the Depression. She was also co-owner of the Detroit dealership and a motorcycle courier during World War II. Known as “The First Lady of Motorcycling,” she estimated logging over 1.5 million miles on motorcycles throughout her lifetime. Also founder of the Meter Maids of America!

The first Sambo’s was opened in 1957 by Sam Battistone Sr. and Newell Bohnett in Santa Barbara, California. The restaurant soon was expanded to more locations. In late 1963, it had restaurants in 16 cities – in California, Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona. By 1969, the company had grown to 98 locations.

With a wide menu, Sambo’s was able to offer something for almost everyone — dinners of everything from filet mignon to fried chicken, and breakfasts like the Papa Jumbo special (juice, eggs, bacon or sausage, and six pancakes) and a cottage cheese & peach salad. At its peak in 1979, Sambo’s had an incredible 1,117 restaurants in 47 states.

DID YOU KNOW THAT...

2300 years ago, long before Islam, Arabs discovered that forcing people to cover their nose and mouths, broke their will and individuality, and depersonalized them. It made them submissive. That’s why they imposed on every woman the mandatory use of a fabric over her face.

Then Islam turned it into the woman’s symbol of submission to Alah, the man owner of the Harem, and the King.

Modern psychology explains it: without face we don’t exist as independent beings. The child looks in the mirror between the ages of two and three and is discovered as an independent being. The mask is the beginning of deleting individuality.

He who does not know his history is condemned to repeat it.

The “Real” Sturgis 1978

Do you go to see or be seen? To the Smoke Out? TM&MR? Daytona? Sturgis? Or both?

My last venture to Sturgis was my best. It was 1997, why? Because no one knew me nor I them. I was just a biker, packing his woman on a long (once in a lifetime) venture made possible by knowing people on the route we took to get there.

Once there we did hook up with some real good people, yet we many times went our separate ways, not pushing others to follow. It worked out well, and over all I did a little under 5,000 miles and was the high point on my thermometer as to gauge my good time rides.

Our children were older now, though my oldest didn’t think so, so we were freer to go out a little farther, so I took advantage of it.

Then somewhere around the year of our Lord 2000, I got on some internet chat sights, that furnished like mined people a place to visit virtually and my name got known. By 2004, I knew about everyone that rode & built Choppers, etc. It was good going to events and meeting them, but.....................

......................one day I realized no matter which event I went to, I hung out with the same people every time, mostly people from where I lived. I go to the Smoke Out & the majority of the time, I hang with Daytona people, same way at the Tennessee Motorcycle Revival at Loretta Lynn’s ranch & so one.

So why don’t I just sit still and let them all come to Bike Week and Biketberfest, because as I said, I hang with the same people wherever it is, well, let me tell you why......................

........................because then I’d miss the ride, which is my number one priority, THE RIDE to and from. To me that’s the main thing, how about you?

When did we change destinations from RUNS to Rallies? People stopped riding to Runs and just rallied, by getting there in cars, trucks, RV’s, etc! At some point we forgot the Run part!!!

The Florida State Line on Highway 29 (In The Panhandle North Of Pensacola) In The 1950s!

My Grandparents are funny, when they bend over, you hear gas leaks and they blame their dog.

Children’s Logic: “Give me a sentence about a public servant,” said a teacher. The small boy wrote: “The fireman came down the ladder pregnant.” The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. “Don’t you know what pregnant means?” she asked. “Sure,” said the young boy confidently. ‘It means carrying a child.”
