I can remember people saying, “Man he’s slow as Christmas coming around”! And I thought, as a child, what a great analogy, because Christmas didn’t or couldn’t come quick enough for me. I’ve always loved that holiday, not just because of the gift giving, but it brought joy and a peace to all of the family, that perhaps you didn’t notice as much the other 364 days, well, except maybe July 4th, BUT today Christmas seems to come like every 3 or 4 months. I guess time flies when you get older, or as I say, “Life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes!” LOL So enjoy the holidays, don’t get stressed out, just do the best you can do and have faith in the one that CHRISTmas is really all about. Peace, Joy & Love To All. I hope you guys enjoyed last month’s issue especially the part of honoring some of our local vets. I heard some good things already, so I hope to do this every year. ********* The year was 1968, and I was a freshman in High School, and gone from the best athletic & a very popular boy in our Elementary School, to a total nobody. I couldn’t even make the football team, as I tried out for it, basketball, but no goes on both. I was overwhelmed everyday of that school year, as I just didn’t/couldn’t fit in. Even old classmates (grades 1-8th) seemed as they didn’t know me, other than Turney, as we grew up together and saw each other often. That Christmas Momma had bought me a pair of yellow socks to match a yellow blue shirt I had, that was the style back then! When I took them off I rolled them together, (you follow me?) And Momma washed them like that. When I went to wear them again one was more yellow than the other, but I wore them anyway, but paid the price for it as people laughed, and I remember specifically 2 girls did. I just wanted to run & hid, but I endured the teasing, etc., but threw them suckers away when I got home. LOL

God’s Corner Excerts from: Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) Enfield, Connecticut July 8, 1741 Their foot shall slide in due time.-- Deuteronomy 32:35 The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked: his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire; he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight; you are ten thousand times more abominable in his eyes, than the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours. You have offended him infinitely more than ever a stubborn rebel did his prince; and yet it is nothing but his hand that holds you from falling into the fire every moment. It is to be ascribed to nothing else, that you did not go to hell the last night; that you was suffered to awake again in this world, after you closed your eyes to sleep. And there is no other reason to be given, why you have not dropped into hell since you arose in the morning, but that God’s hand has held you up. There is no other reason to be given why you have not gone to hell, since you have sat here in the house of God, provoking his pure eyes by your sinful wicked manner of attending his solemn worship. Yea, there is nothing else that is to be given as a reason why you do not this very moment drop down into hell. O sinner! Consider the fearful danger you are in: it is a great fumace of wrath, a wide and bottomless pit, full of the fire of wrath, that you are held over in the hand of that God, whose wrath is provoked and incensed as much against you, as against many of the damned in hell. You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it, and ready every moment to singe it, and burn it asunder; and you have no interest in any Mediator, and nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to keep off the flames of wrath, nothing of your own, nothing that you ever have done, nothing that you can do, to induce God to spare you one moment.

Those 2 girls I mentioned will never remember that, but I still won’t use their names, as we have become very good friends recently. One of them passed a way in the Winter of ‘22, and the other sends me great messages, via FB, about some right on Christian posts & the perfect political ones as well. The latter, has helped me take care of several homeless here, (remember the lady living in the flower bed) with donations, that we gave directly to them. She even sent $250 to some friends in the Panhandle, as their “biker” church started falling a part after the Pastor was basically asked to leave the Biker Ministry going on there! When I went to my 45th class reunion, they both treated me like a King, and Bianca as a Queen, what made that happen? Face Book I guess? I didn’t remind them of that day, I just enjoyed myself. Now, I could have said something & started a mess, but what was the use? I wrote that to say this, things have a way of changing over the years. There were several of the upper echelon dudes that couldn’t figure out what was going on with me getting 90% of the attention. By the way, I road a motorcycle there and that really impressed many as they kept going out to look at it, LOL! So the 1st lady I mentioned that has now passed away, (BTW, she got saved at one of my revivals) was telling these high society cats, that “I was a B.A. Nomadic Biker, a traveling minister, an author, and a magazine publisher.” Of course having a beautiful woman walking by my side all evening helped too, as she was so pretty at that event, y’all know what I mean? But to cap it all off, another lady asked Bianca, “What is it like to be here with the most popular person present?” Dudes, she was talking about ole two tone socked, failure in sports ME!!! HaHaHa! Bianca & I both got a kick out of it. Sometimes, just keeping your mouth shut goes a long ways, or letting some One else take care of it for you. Today I’m still popular with my HS classmates. At our 50th, my wife and I was treated so well, and even more of my elementary classmates showed up, and getting re acquainted again with them was absolutely awesome. Seeing them after 50 years passed was the highlight of the night. Chops 10

This incident is just one of many where God intervened. I know I often appear as out going and in the lime light, but that’s not the real me. Yes, I like being recognized at biker events and such, but I try not to seek it. I’ve found out that it’s better to stay in the back and let others seek it, that need it, which I don’t. Every once in a while I get my feelings hurt, as I’m overlooked, especially by people that use me here on giving them breaks on magazine ads. “Hey Cochise, my brother, I need to place an ad in CHOPS, a full page, what can you do it for old buddy?” So after we agree on “my” price, they ask me to be a judge at their show, and reluctantly I agree, but when the day comes, this one cat, my ole buddy, chooses some guys he thinks are more popular than me, to be the judges, (that’s cool). It’s ok! Yet, I pushed this event hard, and got a whole car club from NSB to attend, but I’m forgotten, which is fine “IF” he had told me about the changes, instead of me embarrassing myself. The icing on the cake, he took all these more popular people (in his mind) inside for some shooting fun, and I was left out, dang that hurt, but guess what? I’m still wading through this old world happy, clear conscience, don’t owe anybody anything, popular with many in Edgewater & NSB who became great friends from Earthquake Magoons, No Name and Hi Tops that love me, HaHaHa!!!. Today, I am good, but I wanted to share these stories so I could share these next 3 points. 1st; if you have a friend/ brother who has been with you all day/week riding with you, got your back, eating & drinking together & you get asked to go some where special, you either take that buddy with you or don’t you go......or leave the decision up to them..........PERIOD! One Bike Week my old buddy Taz had been rolling with me everyday and we had a blast. Taz lives in PA now, but for years when he lived here, was my go to guy. Well, this one day I was invited to go eat dinner with a group, which I wanted to go, but NOT without Taz, so I shared that with the inviter & he understood. I offered to pay for my brother’s meal & he offered himself to pay, but my friend who invited us paid for it all. Again don’t leave a good brother behind. 2nd, many times it’s better to keep our mouths shut. Karma is real! What I did with Taz, was noticed by many & they loved me even more, until I slip back into the background. 3rd, Humble yourself before God & people & in due time He will left you up! Ted Healy, who originated the idea of The Three Stooges’ brutal style of comedy, was not originally interested in hiring Jerome Lester Horwitz (who we all know as Curly Howard) to replace brother Samuel (also known as Shemp) Howard, the original Stooge, after Shemp left the group. Curly had wavy chestnut-brown hair and a waxed mustache. When he went out and completely shaved his head and (eventually) his mustache, Healy hired him on the spot. When Curly was 12, he was cleaning a shotgun when it went off and struck his foot. His brother Moses (Moe Howard) rushed him to the hospital and saved his life. He refused corrective surgery and was left with a permanent limp. For his “Curly” character, he developed an exaggerated walk, not only for comic effect, but to hide the effects of that childhood injury. Despite Curly’s shy nature, the success and celebrity of The Three Stooges triggered his lifelong indulgences in drinking too much, overeating and womanizing. He was also a compulsive spender. Brother Moe Howard, the business manager of the group, tried to curtail Curly’s spending habits but was unable to. Despite several hospitalizations for health problems due to his lifestyle, Curly stubbornly refused to change it. According to one of his ex-wives, he was extremely musical. He could take almost anything lying around and make music with it. She said when they went to nightclubs, he would take two spoons and play along with the club’s band-in fact, there is a scene in “Disorder in the Court” (1936) showing him playing the spoons--or tear the tablecloth to music. Of course, they would find the cost of the tablecloth added to the bill. Once while in Atlantic City, NJ, he was cracked over the head with a cane by a young boy who thought Curly’s head was as tough as it appeared to be in The Three Stooges shorts.

Crazy Horse – A Sacred Hero Crazy Horse was born on the Republican River about 1845. He was killed at Fort Robinson, Nebraska, in 1877, so that he lived barely thirty-three years. He was an uncommonly handsome man. While not the equal of Gall in magnificence and imposing stature, he was physically perfect, an Apollo in symmetry. Furthermore he was a true type of Indian refinement and grace. He was modest and courteous as Chief Joseph; the difference is that he was a born warrior, while Joseph was not. However, he was a gentle warrior, a true brave, who stood for the highest ideal of the Sioux [Lakota.] Notwithstanding all that biased historians have said of him, it is only fair to judge a man by the estimate of his own people rather than that of his enemies. The late Brian Piccolo was born 80 years ago today. A 1961 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Fort Lauderdale (now known as St. Thomas Aquinas High School), Piccolo is one of football’s most inspiring stories. Although he was an outstanding football and baseball player in high school, Piccolo’s only scholarship offers came from Wake Forest and Wichita State. He chose Wake Forest and went on to an outstanding career. During his senior year in 1964, Piccolo led the nation in rushing and scoring and was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year. He was selected to play in the North vs. South Shrine All Star Game at the Orange Bowl. But despite a tremendous college career, Piccolo was ignored by the AFL and NFL drafts. In 1965, Piccolo signed as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears. During training camp, Bears head coach George Halas made the decision to pair Piccolo with fellow rookie running back Gale Sayers as roommates. Piccolo and Sayers appeared to be polar opposites. The shy Sayers was an African American player who was the team’s first round pick. Piccolo was an undrafted free agent with a gregarious personality just hoping to make the team. The two running backs quickly became close friends. It was the first time in Bears training camp that a black player and a white player had ever roomed together. Piccolo impressed Halas with his work ethic and made the team as a member of the taxi squad--now known as the practice squad. His upbeat attitude was also an inspiration to Sayers, who would enjoy an amazing rookie season. In 1967, Piccolo started getting more playing time while backing up Sayers and also seeing action as an undersized fullback. By 1969, Sayers and Piccolo were the Bears starting backfield while playing for Chops 30

the then head coach and former University of Miami All American Jim Dooley. Piccolo was enjoying his best season until he removed himself from a game against the Atlanta Falcons. He was having trouble breathing. After an examination, Piccolo was diagnosed with embryonal cell carcinoma. In 1970, he underwent operations to remove his left lung and pectoral muscle. Unfortunately, the disease had spread to other organs, including his liver. On June 16, 1970, Brian Piccolo died. He was 26 years old. Piccolo’s death was devastating for the Bears organization. Among the 6 pallbearers at his funeral were Gale Sayers and Dick Butkus. He was buried at Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Piccolo left behind an enormous legacy, including a wife and 3 children. He is particularly revered in Broward County. The football stadium at St. Thomas Aquinas High School is named after him as well as Brian Piccolo Park in Cooper City, FL. Piccolo’s story was captured in the movie “Brian’s Song”, starring actors Billy Dee Williams as Gale Sayers and James Caan, who played Piccolo. A month before Piccolo’s death, Sayers accepted an award as the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year. During the ceremony a tearful Sayers final words were “I love Brian Piccolo, and I’d like all of you to love him, too. Tonight, when you hit your knees to pray, please ask God to love him, too.”

1966, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, I had worked Black Friday, and that Saturday till noon at the small garage, that was my first real job. It was cloudy and cold, my brother had the car that we shared that day, so I had the red Cushman Hylander scooter. On the way home, it lost power, and quit on me, after making a weird noise. After some kicking and swearing I found it had a blown head gasket. 1966 technology offered very little breakdown assistance. No cell phones, and in that rural road no pay phones. Getting dark, windy, threating rain I pushed the scooter home about 4 miles. My first but not my last experience with “Motor Hiking.” ********** Thanksgiving Day, 1970. Worked KP in the 70th Brigade dining hall. We served two full meals to officers, enlisted men and their family’s. I worked side sink, and ran the dishwasher, reset tables, and peeled hundreds of potatoes. My most memorable Thanksgiving ever. ********** It was a early 50s Studebaker Strarlight couple, gloss black, lowered, with Moon hubcaps on shiny blackwalls. A Sharkfin antenna in the middle ofthe roof. Heavy dark tinted windows. LED Blue Dot taillights. The car turned everyone’s heads, as did the driver. The driver was thin and tall, wore tight black Levi’s, tucked into fancy black and white cowboy boots. A white sleeveless T shirt. Heavily tattooed. With face piercings, and short white hair cut into a ageless Flat top style. Mirror Aviator sunglasses. The car and its driver fit each other like milk and cookies. Daytona 23. ********** Next month, more pics from OB’s Pan/Shovel Show & maybe a few pics and story about Bianca’s, Lucy (our new pup) & My trip out west. We got to see tha Grand Canyon & stopped at many off interstate shops. We had a great time, even with 19 days, we ran out of time!!! Chops 41

Singer and songwriter Fats Domino with wife Rosemarie and their six children (two more were born after this photo was taken) circa 1959. They were married from 1947 until her death in 2008. Antoine Domino Jr. was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. One of the pioneers of rock and roll music, Domino sold more than 65 million records. Domino signed to Imperial Records in 1949. His first single “The Fat Man” is cited by some historians as the first rock and roll single and the first to sell more than 1 million copies. Domino continued to work with the song’s co-writer Dave Bartholomew, contributing his distinctive rolling piano style to Lloyd Price’s “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” (1952) and scoring a string of mainstream hits beginning with “Ain’t That a Shame” (1955). Between 1955 and 1960, he had eleven Top 10 US pop hits. By 1955, five of his records had sold more than a million copies, being certified gold.

Chops 44

Domino was shy and modest by nature but made a significant contribution to the rock and roll genre. Elvis Presley declared Domino a “huge influence on me when I started out” and when they first met in 1959, described him as “the real king of rock ‘n’ roll”. The Beatles were also heavily influenced by Domino. Four of Domino’s records were named to the Grammy Hall of Fame for their significance: “Blueberry Hill”, “Ain’t That a Shame”, “Walking to New Orleans” and “The Fat Man”. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of its first group of inductees in 1986. The Associated Press estimates that during his career, Domino “sold more than 110 million records”.
