Motorcycling is the act of “Riding” a motorcycle. For some people, motorcycling
may be the only affordable form of individual motorized transportation, and small-displacement motorcycles are the most common motor vehicle in the most populous countries, including India, China and Indonesia. In developing countries, motorcycles are overwhelmingly utilitarian due to lower prices and greater fuel economy. Of all motorcycles, 58% are in the Asia Pacific and Southern and Eastern Asia regions, excluding car-centric Japan. Motorcycles are mainly a luxury good in developed nations, where they are used mostly for recreation, as a lifestyle accessory or a symbol of personal identity. Beyond being a mode of motor transportation or sport, motorcycling has become a subculture and lifestyle. Although mainly a solo activity, motorcycling can be social and motorcyclists tend to have a sense of community with each other. ********** Well I packed up the ‘96 Evo and headed out to TN & KY early Thursday morning to go see and hang with my children and grandbabies (and a few 1st cousins). For some strange reason I was running out of gas at about 95 to 105 miles, which at first got old, but as the miles on the odometer rose, my butt was sinking! So I stopped about every 100 miles for gas, (the petcock was bad) and like I said, after I hit 500 miles, I was anxious to stop. My problem is if I get in a “zone” I can ride all day. Many times I’ve ridden 850 to 1,000 in a day, at times never getting off the bike when gassing up, just fill and go. The 1st day up I rode 734 miles, to where my son lives in TN. The bike did great and I was hanging on after about 550 miles, but I was under 200 miles away and I still had plenty of daylight so I pushed on, and what a loving reception I received from Page 10...

my Tennessee family, especially the babies, which aren’t really babies anymore. I immediately took a nap, but then we got together for food and fellowship, and time for Poppa to smother those children with much love!!! And though I hadn’t seen them in over a year, they piled it back on me. Kynlee, Rosey & Olliejames, thanks for that and to my son and his beautiful wife, thanks for the hospitality! I left there Saturday afternoon to ride up some awesome secondary roads to my oldest daughter’s home in Kentucky, and received the same reception, again from the littlest ones, Sweet Pea & Huddy! So now I am hanging out with my 2 oldest daughters, their husbands and 6 grands, with 4 of those introducing me to their boyfriends and girlfriend. We ordered pizza and just sit around enjoying one another’s company. I was in heaven, with Rock, Bailey, Caitlyn & Sopie! I was suppose to be back home that following Friday for an important doctor’s appointment, so I was planning on leaving Wednesday, but I got a text message from that doctor who had to cancel my visit, and that opened the door for me to stay a few more days., which was fine with me. I stayed a couple of nights in my hometown of Henderson with my 1st cousin and got to totally relax before heading back to TN, to spend one more night there before leaving out real early Saturday morning. I don’t think it was as hot coming home as it was going up. The Evo ran great, with zero problems. I rode a total of about 1,800 miles, with basically 1,650 of those going and coming. I did 732 miles that Saturday, and got home before dark. Again, at about 550 miles of the trip home, I begin to feel it, but when you’re less than 200 miles from your love, you just suck it up, get in that zone and hammer down. The trip truly revived me!!! I needed this, as I had been sick since last November. 2 things; I didn’t need to prove anything by riding that far in one day to anyone but myself, & it feels good to feel good! Chops 10

Behind Our Backs? Timber Sycamore was a classified weapons supply and training program run by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and supported by some Arab intelligence services, including Saudi intelligence. Launched in 2012 or 2013, it supplied money, weaponry and training to rebel forces fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian civil war. According to US officials, the program was run by the CIA’s Special Activities Division and has trained thousands of rebels. President Barack Obama secretly authorized the CIA to begin arming Syria’s embattled rebels in 2013. The program became public knowledge in mid-2016. One consequence of the program has been a flood of US weapons including assault rifles, mortars and rocket-propelled grenades into the Middle East’s black market. Critics saw it as ineffective and expensive, and raised concerns about diversion of weapons to jihadist groups and about Timber Sycamore-backed rebels fighting alongside the al-Nusra Front. In July 2017, US officials stated that Timber Sycamore would be phased out, with funds possibly redirected to fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), or to offering rebel forces defensive capabilities. A 2017 study conducted by Conflict Armament Research at the behest of the European Union and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit does not mention Timber Sycamore but found that external support for anti-Assad Syrian rebels “significantly augmented the quantity and quality of weapons available to [ISIL] forces,” including, in the most rapid case diversion they documented, “anti-tank weapons purchased by the United States that ended up in possession of the Islamic State within two months of leaving the factory.” The study traced the provenance of some weapons in detail. However, the study found no instance in which US arms supplied to the Kurdish– and Arab–led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to fight ISIL ended up in ISIL’s arsenal. plies of weapons by taking advantage of U.S. weapons transfers that may have violated international agreements between Washington and its allies, according to a new report. As much as 90 percent of ISIS’s arms and ammunition were found to have originated in Russia, China and Eastern European states. The jihadis were able to obtain much of this arsenal as a result of former President Barack Obama’s support for rebels in Syria, U.K.-based Conflict Armament Research reported after analyzing 40,000 items recovered by its investigators along ISIS front lines between July 2014 and November 2017. By purchasing “large numbers” of European arms and ammunition and then diverting them to nonstate actors in Syria without notifying the sellers, the U.S. reportedly “violated the terms of sale and export agreed between weapon exporters...and recipients.”

Four guys were at hunting camp. They had to bunk two to a room. No one wanted to room with Daryl because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn’t fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns. The first guy slept with Daryl and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot. The other two said, “Man, what happened to you?” He said, “Daryl snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night.” The next night it was the second guy’s turn. In the morning, same thing happens again, his hair is standing up, eyes all bloodshot. The other two said, “Man, what happened to you? You look awful!” He said, “Man, that Daryl shakes the roof. I sat up and watched him all night.” The third night was Frank’s turn. Frank was a big burly ex-football player; a man’s man. The next morning he came to breakfast bright eyed and bushytailed. “Good morning,” he said. The other two couldn’t believe it! He looked rested and wide awake. They asked, “Man, what happened?” He said, “Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Daryl into bed, patted his butt and kissed him on the cheek good night. Daryl sat up and watched me all night.”

WHO REMEMBERS THE MIAMI SERPENTARIUM? Bill Haast opened his Serpentarium on South Dixie Highway in 1947. The building was part of the attraction, with its 35-foot-high hooded concrete-and-stucco cobra with a forked tongue that towered over the building. Tens of thousands of people visited each year to see the green mambas, king cobras, palm vipers and Cookie the crocodile. Haast closed the doors in 1984 and moved to southwest Florida where he passed away in 2011 at age 100. Do you remember the Serpentarium? Chops 59
