I had 3 blockages on that side, one at 50%, one at 75% and one at 90%. After I got home, I felt great for 2 days, then I started having stomach issues and a mouth full of those nasty, painful canker sores, which I had not had in years, so now, as of this writing, my stomach issues are okay, but still dealing with one canker sore. It’s always something, but it could be a lot worse. But thank you ALL for asking about me and your thoughts and prayers, I appreciated it!!! Also, thanks for looking for the June issue, but I wrote that I needed a break to heal up some and we took June off. Yet, it made me feel good that you all missed it. ********** How the judicial system took a young man’s life! I will call him Joey, and I’ll share with you what lead up to the demise of these young man, not even 30 years old, and why he died. Joey had been in trouble most of his young life. I first heard about him when we moved here, as Joey and his brothers lived in the same area as I now did. The neighbors warned us that these boys were trouble, and did not care if you called the cops on them. The community mailboxes were only a few yards from my front door, and that is where they hung out every evening and night. Making a lot of noise and disrupting the peace of what was a subdivision of mostly older retired folks. I remember the day I was told this by the HOA president, and I thought, “Damn, I use to do the exact same thing in the small town where we boys hung out! Is this KARMA?” However, I never saw nor heard them until we had our daughters

As a side note, the whole park thought I was a Hells Angel, (which it took me years to prove to other 1%ers that I wasn’t), as anyone who looked like me and had a couple of Choppers, was assumed to be. Maybe that’s why the boys never messed with me. In my experience most street punks and gang members don’t mess with bike clubs, who knows. To shorten up the story, one of our daughters started dating Joey and they had a child together, I hated it, because I knew in my heart this boy was trouble, but what can you do? Joey still was getting into scrapes with the law. He went to jail several times. He had me arrested once, because I was tired of him stealing from us and throwing it in our faces. He even stole my mother’s wedding band and I despised this punk. One day he stole “another” bicycle from Bianca, and was raising hell with our daughter. I had went and got her two previous times, but she kept going back, so B calls me and tells me they are fighting and Joey stole B’s bicycle, so I told her, “I am through with this bullshit, and I’m NOT coming over to their house.” But she insisted, and after the law said there wasn’t anything they could do, I went over there and smacked him and pushed him off the bike, right in front of the cop, by the way Joey was making obscene gestures towards me when the cop turned his back, so I hit him and immediately he jumped up and had me arrested for battery. I was handcuffed and took to jail. My hatred grew even more. While in the car the cop asked why I did that, and I told him about the gestures and how he mocks the law, cops and judges. Then the policeman, said, “I wish you had of jumped on him and finished the job, because his hands were tied”. Yeah, right and get tazed!!! When I went to court Joey didn’t show, the State said he had another warrant out for him, and I was released. So, I wrote this cat off, but my wife felt sorry for him and the daughter was still seeing him. That’s fine, but for me, “Screw him”! I’d see him from time to time at the child’s programs and he would Chops 11
shake my hand, but he never apologized for the shit he stirred up, etc. I didn’t like him and I wasn’t going to be friendly to him, period! Then Bianca tells me Joey gets out of jail, and has a great job and doing really good, oh, by now our daughter and him had separated and she had married a really great guy. Joey also had a new girlfriend and apparently was paying child support, visiting his child and everything a father should do. At some time, after awhile, he started his own business and was excelling, perhaps jail scared him straight? I saw Joey a couple of times after he had made this change, and though I was very skeptical, it appeared to me he really had made a change in his life. I just had this conversation last weekend with another friend, who said a liar will always be a liar, a no good #@*& will always be a no good #@*&, and I just listened and two thoughts came to my mind, first; the kind of person I was, before Jesus, to what I am today. Maybe still not all that I can be but I’m a whole lot better than I was, As I wrote in my book, I was a worthless husband, terrible father and a lazy employee, and secondly Joey. You see I changed, and so did Joey! YOU CAN CHANGE!!! So I had to disagree with my friend. He had been doing awesome for years. Working hard. Enjoying life, and then for some reason his girlfriend decided to cheat on him. Everything I have written so far, was as accurate as my old mind could remember, but now this is second hand, maybe third hand info. Apparently, the girlfriend was trying to make Joey jealous, I’m not for sure, but someone, maybe her, leaked it out that she was in bed with another man, and Joey showed up. Joey beat the crap out of this man, but in my opinion, he should have gave her a couple of licks also. Good thing they weren’t in Texas, or he could have legally shot them both, but he messed that boy up, and SHE had Joey arrested. He got a good (?) lawyer, not a court appointed one. His previous employer and his family helped him out, and many of us would have been character witnesses for him, but when he went to court, apparChops 12
ently his lawyer wasn’t very good and didn’t even call character witnesses or anything! It was like Joey was on his own. Now this is only my speculation here. The State and the Judge probably looked at Joey’s past record, and thought, “Here is our chance to rid ourselves of this “menace to society”, and they threw the book at him. He was given 15 years to life!!! No matter, that for 5 years he was clean! He worked hard! He was a great father! That he had a high powered lawyer!!! For me, and I don’t give a rat’s azz if you agree or not, but that boy didn’t deserve that much time, why? BECAUSE HE HAD CHANGED, but the freaking system didn’t. They’re still the same! This is why I hate the word Democracy! It means you are judged on the Law ONLY, were in a Republic, you are judged on the Law AND Facts!!! Maybe Joey deserved some punishment for beating that boy, who had dropped the charges. It was (hearsay) the girlfriend who pushed his prison term! But Joey said, “I can’t go to prison for 15 years much less for life, and I won’t turn myself in”. And he didn’t! The day he was suppose to report to prison, he ran. Of course they came looking for him. I personally didn’t know where he was and I didn’t want to know, because if I was asked by the cops, I wouldn’t have to lie and I wouldn’t have. I felt for this kid. I knew he had changed, I knew it, but the verdict was reached and that was final. I reckon Joey was staying somewhere in another town, when someone ratted him out, and as a friend opened the door to reveal the police, there to get Joey, they all heard a gunshot. It was Joey! I know I have some cold hearted friends that live here and you will just blow this off as another criminal gone, but I want to say two things. First, I’ve heard stories on you when you were young and dumb, and the only reason you’re not doing time or released as a felon, was because you just never got caught, and secondly PEOPLE CAN AND DO CHANGE!!! ~ Cochise RIP Joey, you didn’t deserve the punishment given or death. One of our stops on the last Freedom Ride was at Tobacco Exotica on ISB. We rolled in with about 30 people to check out this very cool business that I’ve seen for years but never visited. I know everyone was pleasantly surprised of the stock, the assortments of smokes and the over all cleanliness of the place. Most bought cigars, and sit in their smoking lounge and talked a bit before heading out. Some of the riders knew about the place, but for some, it was our first visit, but we’ll be back. What Is Pain? Pain is an uncomfortable feeling that tells you something may be wrong. It can be steady, throbbing, stabbing, aching, pinching, or described in many other ways. Sometimes, it’s just a nuisance, like a mild headache. Other times it can be debilitating. It allows the body to react to and prevent further tissue damage. People feel pain when a signal travels through nerve fibers to the brain for interpretation. Pain is a general term that describes uncomfortable sensations in the body. It stems from activation of the nervous system. Pain can range from annoying to debilitating. It may feel like a sharp stab or dull ache. It may also be described as throbbing, pinching, stinging, burning, or sore. THE FOUR MAJOR TYPES OF PAIN: Nociceptive Pain: Typically the result of tissue injury. Inflammatory Pain: An abnormal inflammation caused by an inappropriate response by the body’s immune system. Neuropathic Pain: Pain caused by nerve irritation. Functional Pain: Pain without obvious origin, but can cause pain. Assessing Non-Verbal Signs Facial grimacing or a frown. Writhing or constant shifting in bed. Moaning, groaning, or whimpering. Restlessness and agitation. Appearing uneasy and tense, perhaps drawing their legs up or kicking. Guarding the area of pain or withdrawing from touch to that area. Acute pain usually lasts hours, days, or weeks and is associated with tissue damage, inflammation, a surgical procedure, or a brief disease process. DREAMING It came in on the truck with four other crated bikes fresh from HD. It was his job to open the crates and begin the process of getting them showroom and road ready. He liked working at the small dealership. It was family run, and friendly, and had been in business there for years. As he broke open the crates the new bikes became apparent, mostly pretty much the same FLH models except for the last one he freed from its shipping wrappers. This one was a Sportster XLCH, in a frosted mint green metallic paint scheme, a color that he’d never seen before. It had a white saddle, white grips and pegs, and white wall tires, on spoked chrome rims. It was certainly a special order bike. And he was in love with it. The store manager searched the order forms, but this special bike had been shipped in error. He certainly hadn’t ordered it. Calls were made, and questions asked, but nobody knew where the bike was supposed to be shipped to. The sales people felt the bike would be a hard sell, and set it back in the showroom, and it sat there for a long time. The young man’s job was to clean up the bikes, keep the showroom swept, and the odd jobs around the dealership that came up. He kept his eye on the CH, every chance he got. Then the letter came, from Selective Service, and the youngster got drafted. He went and reported as ordered and wound up in an Infantry unit, and after training was sent to Vietnam. He was lucky to return a year later, and visited the dealership on leave. The CH was still there, and he just knew it was meant to be. He talked a deal with his old boss, and the bike became his. Time marched on, and the CH was ridden hard and enjoyed. Some dreams do come true. Chops 54
