Well, we lost 3 more good men since the last writing of the magazine; a man I just know as Wall, (I don’t know his real name, like so many more folks here, that I know only through nick names), Justin, who went by the Instagram handle Dad Fartz and our friend over on the other coast of Florida, Sweet Pete! Each of these men were Chopper builders and riders. Wall had the St. Louis style bike he called the White Trash Millionaire. His picture was in CHOPS two months ago on one of Shaun’s pages. He was a big man, that straddled a big chopper and they fit together like your hand in a tight glove. RIP Wall Justin passed away from luekemia, leaving behind his partner Carly and their 6 month old son, Wyatt. I will post some pics up here in this issue of his celebration of life. Pete is also mentioned in another place in this copy of the mag! Last month I put a picture on the cover that was sent to me by someone in an email, and it stirred up a chet storm. I truly thought it was a picture from the 70’s or I’d never used it, but some one here sent it to some cat in TX, and the next thing I know, it’s all over the internet that I’m a thief and well, I won’t mention the names I was called, but my name was slandered. I was threatened in so many ways, after awhile I had to laugh about it. Somewhere else in this issue I will be doing a writing on the difference between a Democracy and a Republic. I was judged by a Democracy that soon turned into a Mobocracy, which happens when the facts aren’t brought into play. By the way, I apologized to the one man that was ripping me up, three times, BUT he still saw fit to continue spreading F/U’s and then his buddies jumped in. But here is the kicker! Believe it or not, many people who are not your “real” friends love drama like this. They feed on it and rejoice when people attack you. They’re not friends, just haters that can’t stand for someone to rise up and do good. As I’ve said many times before, not all “friends” are that, real friends, and when something like this happens, you’ll see who they are!!! So be that friend, that you want, 24/7! Chops 7

You were born physically into this world by your mother, but to gain entry into Heaven when you die, you must be born of the Spirit. You do this by accepting Jesus & His teachings, as you are being drawn to God the Creator & Father by the Holy Spirit!

RIP Sweet Pete!!! I met this young man about 3 years ago at a weekend adventure ride called the Tar Ball Run. He and his girl Gina (GiGi) was camping at Cabbage Patch, one of the over night stops on the run, and that is where I first met them. From That day forward we have stayed in touch and shared a few more times together at certain events we both attended. Pete was a good guy, as you can tell by his nick name, Sweet! This young brother was very, very respectful of all those whom he came around. He asked a lot of questions each time we met and had an opportunity to set a while and talk. I realized that he was just trying to find out about the world I had been living in for over 50 years, of course I obliged him with the best answers I could. Pete was a chopper rider and a real deal biker, who loved life, his girl and their boys. He is/will be GREATLY missed by so many of us!!!

This heat has driven me inside to my recliner. It’s the first time I can remember since I lived here that I have complained about how hot it is, but this old man is ready for Autumn, even if there is no changing of the leaves. But I have taken advantage of being inside and watched some things on TV I wanted to see, and one of those was a Bio documentary on Val Kilmer, called VAL! It’s more of an autobiography rather than someone else doing it on Mr. Kilmer. So with that in mind, a person talking about his own life rather than someone else doing it, Val, shines a nice light on himself. I sat and watched it and first I was surprised at Kilmer’s appearance. He looked very old, (he’s 60) and he was talking through a trach, a hole in his throat, from the results of throat cancer. And though he seemed to be handling it very well, it was really difficult for a fan to see this once good looking man, who was a super star in Hollywood, appearing like this, but I guess if he can handle this new hand dealt to him, so should his fans. I’ve always been a fan, but after the movie Tombstone came out and Val starred as the infamous Doc Holiday, from which he should have won an Oscar, how could you not like this guy’s acting. I mean between (Wyatt Earp) Kurt Russell’s mustache and Kilmer’s one liners, (“I’m your Huckleberry”) how can you not rank this movie in the top five of all time! Many, including me, can pretty much quote about every line of importance from this 1993 block buster. Anyway, Tombstone is my favorite Val Kilmer movie, even though he really wasn’t the main actor in it, but what about these? Did you like these other movies as well? The Doors! VK knocked it out of the park on this one, as far as playing the very weird, Jim Morrison. Top Gun! Again he wasn’t the main star, but his character is remembered as much as, if not more than Tom Cruise’s is. Batman Forever! (I’m not into Sci-Fi type movies). Heat and The Saint were two more good Val flicks, but even with a trach and being the shell of the man he was, Val Kilmer will always be Doc Holiday!!! Chops 12
BOB SEGER!!! The Detroit Rocker, and one of the best there is/was at writing good old Rock & Roll songs, who could sing them just as well as he wrote them. Though I don’t see eye to eye with him on politics, as I don’t with probably 90% of most actors and musicians, I hold Seger as one of the top five singers/performers in my personal collection. Here are some facts I found on Wikipedia (which I make a monetary donation to quarterly) on Seger’s songs. I found this as I was trying to find the Top Ten Bob Seger songs, as voted on by his fans. I think you will be surprised about his #1 hits and what they were, actually he ONLY had one!!! Bob Seger’s Only Number One Hit! Bob Seger began playing music in Detroit in 1961, finally reached the Top 40 in 1968, and the top 10 in 1976. Eventually, in the 1980’s, Bob Seger reached the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100, but surprisingly, it wasn’t with the song you’d first think of. “Old Time Rock & Roll” reached number 28 on the chart in 1979, though it’s probably the first song most people associate with Seger. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, he reached the top 10 with songs including “Night Moves, “Still The Same,” and “Against The Wind,” but it wasn’t until his final entry into the top 10 that he reached #1. In 1987, Eddie Murphy’s second movie in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise came out, and it had a theme sung by Seger named “Shakedown”. TV, Catalogues, Shopping, Banking, Doctor Visits, Church, Books, Radio, Tracking One Another, Etc!!! What do all these have in common? Well, one item that we now own, has replaced all of the above, plus some!!! It’s the Cell Phone and it’s NOT reality!!! Remember back in the mid to late 70’s CB craze? I remember we wouldn’t go any place without a CB in the vehicle. It felt unsafe not to have the CB radio on when traveling, whether long distances or across town. If you don’t recall this, then just know it’s happening again, right now, through the device we carry with us 24/7!!! And it’s not reality, it’s not good or not all good!!! 5 years ago or less, old people were complaining about how much time kids were on their phones, yet today, adults are just as bad. The next time you go to the doctor’s office, watch what is happening. Everyone in the waiting room is looking at the phone, mostly facebook, instagram or some other social media outlet. I’m talking about people under 80 years old are sitting and doing the exact same thing that they preached against just a few seasons ago. Cell phones are NOT reality!!! Yes they warn us of impending weather, or an Amber/Silver alert, which is cool, but the drama that comes along with all the other functions like social media, texting and e-mails has driven wedges between many friends and family, because you can’t read other’s emotions when conversing with one another, especially sarcasm. I’ve been trying hard to get away from my phone more often, like NOT carrying it with me when I go to some places, but people look at me like I’m a freak because I’m not only not carrying, but when I do, I’m not looking at it constantly, especially while out eating or visiting with someone. And if you tell someone you don’t have your phone, well...... We have lost touch with so many people, like our kids because of this device, but it’s a huge part of our lives now, yet it’s NOT reality!!! Chops 21

Protection of Rights Democracy: Rights can be overridden by the will of the majority. Republic: A constitution protects the rights of all people from the will of the majority. Bottom line is this, a democracy can turn into a Mobocracy, which means the majority rules, whether based on facts or not. Like when someone was supposedly caught in an act of breaking a law, and they are immediately fined, imprisoned or killed, BUT in a Republic, the people (jury) are to look at the facts in why the law was broken. Democracy, “the law says it, so we do it”, the republic says, “let us weight the facts in this matter before executing a sentence”!!! Today, Democrats want total government control over the people, they want the people to 100% lean on them for their well being, while Republicans are suppose to let the Constitution dictate the will of the people, through a process as outlined by the Constitution of the United States of America!!! Democrats equal power by the government, while Republicans give the power to the people, or suppose too!!! Chops 31

This is a couple I met at Justin’s Celebration Of Life, Tomy & Britta. I had been admiring his bike and just so happen, as I parked next to it, we were leaving at the same time so I snapped a couple of pics. It took me awhile to figure out what he had done to this chopper. I mean it looked like a Softtail, but it was a rigid, yep, he welded a rigid tail section on it. Tomy did a great job of making this “his” bike!!!

Then Came Bronson is an American adventure/drama television series starring Michael Parks that aired on NBC. It was created by Denne Bart Petitclerc, and produced by MGM Television. Then Came Bronson began with a television film pilot that aired on NBC on March 24, 1969; the pilot was also released in Europe as a theatrical feature film. This was followed by a single season of 26 episodes airing between September 17, 1969 and April 1, 1970. The series features Parks as the protagonist, James “Jim” Bronson, a newspaperman who becomes disillusioned after the suicide of his best friend Nick (Martin Sheen), and with “working for The Man” after a heated argument with his editor. In order to renew his soul Bronson becomes a vagabond searching for the meaning of life and seeking experiences that life has to offer (as revealed in the series pilot). During his travels, he shares his values with the people he meets along the way and to whom he lends a helping hand when possible. Bronson rides a Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle and, as such, he was viewed by some as a modern version of the solitary cowboy wandering the American west. The motorcycle had previously been sold to Nick by Bronson. After it is left at the scene of the suicide by his friend, Bronson buys it back from the widow. Though the opening promises a journey of self-discovery, the premise of each episode is that Bronson enters someone else’s life at a crucial point and acts as a catalyst for change. When Bronson encounters an Amish community, for example, a local boy becomes enraptured by the outside world and steals Bronson’s motorcycle to run off to Reno, Nevada. In another episode, located in Reno, Nevada, Bronson meets his cousin Eve on her wedding day and lends her money for the wedding service, but she runs off to the casinos and gambles it away. The first three episodes, including the end credits scenes, were shot in and around Jackson, Wyoming. The pilot film was also shown at the town’s (then) only theater to give the locals a sense of what the series was going to be about, since they were shooting in town and at popular local area locations. Bronson is committed to pacifism and often redirects an antagonist’s Chops 45
anger into self-examination. Always, like a true catalyst, Bronson rolls out of every episode unchanged. The show had obvious similarities to the early 1960s series Route 66; Michael Parks guest-starred in one episode of that series. It was also sometimes erroneously described as a knock-off of Easy Rider. The opening of the show served as a metaphor for the premise of the show: getting away from the “big city” and leading a simpler life. The opening begins with Bronson riding up to a red light in San Francisco and he briefly chats with a commuter. The scene also introduces Bronson’s signature-phrase, which he often used in the episodes, “Hang in there”. Driver: “Taking a trip?” Bronson: “What’s that?” Driver: “Taking a trip?” Bronson: “Yeah.” Driver: “Where to?” Bronson: “Oh, I don’t know. Wherever I end up, I guess.” Driver: “Man, I wish I was you.” Bronson: “Really?” Driver: “Yeah.” Bronson: “Well, hang in there.” From here he heads out to California’s State Route 1 and then crosses over the Bixby Creek Bridge. Bronson’s motorcycle, a 1969 XLH 900cc Harley-Davidson Sportster, figures in many episodes. In one episode he enters several motorcycle races; in another, he makes an emergency run to fetch a doctor, but in some stories, the motorcycle serves merely as his transportation. after asking Bronson to buy back his motorcycle from his soon-to-be widow Sheree North. Bronson had originally owned and customized the bike, then sold it to Nick when he became a reporter. Nick’s tragedy makes Bronson think about the meaning of his life and soon decides to quit the “rat race.” He then takes to the road on the motorcycle to discover what life would put in his path. Jim Bronson takes a temp job at Hanrahan School, a summer camp for disturbed children run by noted therapist Edward Hanrahan (Jack Klugman) and his daughter Doris who is an old girlfriend of Bronson. He becomes interested in an autistic student John (Mark Lester) known as “the runner” because to his penchant to flee. Edward Hanrahan gives Bronson wide latitude in dealing with John. “The Old Motorcycle Fiasco” September 24, 1969
When Bronson’s motorcycle is inadvertently damaged by a careless gasoline attendant, a grizzled old-timer named Alex (Keenan Wynn) lets Bronson use his ranch to make repairs. Alex shows Bronson his old bike, a 1937 Rudge Ulster, that had been in storage for years. Soon, both are riding again and, since Alex had promised his wife Nora to abandon motorcycles, it leads to complications in his marriage. Bronson is hired by lonely widow Monica to work on her ranch. Her teenage daughter Lori (Charlotte Stewart) soon becomes smitten with Bronson and Monica finds Bronson’s demeanor captivating as well. Bronson’s dilemma: how to deal with the attention of both women without causing them emotional injury. Songs: “Sunshine Showers”, “Ride ‘Em Cowboy” (Parks). 4

Bronson ends up in a ghost town whose sole resident is Hattie Calder (Elsa Lanchester). She piques Bronson’s interest with her vitality and tales of surviving the Titanic disaster. Hattie has an ongoing quarrel with Abner Hotchman who is secretly looking for a silver vein in the area. Her one remaining wish in life: to be buried next to her husband in a nearby plot. Other actors: Dabney Coleman Song: “I Think Of You” (Parks). 5 “Where Will the Trumpets Be?” October 15, 1969 Bullfighter Miguel (Fernando Lamas) approaches motorcycle riding using the same aggressive methods that he uses to fight bulls. Bronson is reluctant when Miguel tries to imbue Bronson with his same values and suggests that he use similar methods. In the meantime Bella (Lane Bradbury) and Morgana (Jessica Walter), two beautiful sisters, compete for the attention of both men. 6
“Amid Splinters of the Thunderbolt” October 22, 1969
Bronson travels to Colorado to find an old friend named Bucky O’Neill (Bruce Dern): a priest with a crisis of conscience. Bucky has fallen in love with Mary Draper and yet leaving the priesthood torments him. Mary is tortured as well and blames herself for Bucky’s problem. She believes she’s destined to die giving childbirth. When she refuses medical help Bronson is forced to make a decision. Other actors: James Doohan Song: “Wayfarin’ Stranger” (Parks). Chops 48

“The 3:13 Arrives at Noon” October 29, 1969
Clay Turner is a bank robber and former local hero who has been imprisoned for years. After being paroled he returns to his hometown and it causes three people anxiety. The reasons: Turner had made revenge threats to Ed Hemmings for turning him in many years ago and Earl Braeden is now married to Turner’s former girlfriend Charlene Braeden.
