As of this writing, Willie is still in the hospital in Gainesville. He was home one day and had to go back to the ER, and after a couple of days there, he came home again, for I believe 2 days, and then Ms. Jean took him to Shands. It’s just not the smashed (not just broken) ribs or the lung collapsing, it’s the infection which has set up because of the previous. They keep removing drainage tubes and putting bigger ones back in. Will is going to make it, but don’t stop praying for him and Jean, as the road to complete recovery is still a distance away from today. Hand tough Boss!!! I took a part time job at Midwest Cycles on Beach St in May, selling motorcyles. So if you ride by there on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, stop in and look at the inventory of nice preowned bikes, and the new builds by Scott from Capone Hot Rods. Midwest sells a lot of bikes, so at anytime, your dream bike may come through. Call me if you need some info on a scoot. They also have a 90% finance success on getting folks their bike!!! Well, it only took about 100 days of this regime’s liberal, socialist policey changes to throw our country back to Obama’s world! The Trump haters aren’t saying much today. No bragging on their man. No proud moments. No nothing! What happened to the loud left? Miss those mean tweets? Remembering $1.99 a gallon gas? Hang tough and pray for our country, both sides please! (I wish there was another Party to choose from, a viable one!) Anyway, don’t forget we’re ALL Americans! Also remember to encourage someone today, as many are down and discouraged over the already quick rise of inflation. Be patient and friendly with others, even those who you may disagree with and if they’re truly wrong they will know it soon enough. Love is a verb, put it in action towards your fellowman. How Many Of You Where There? 20,000 Join Hands on the Beach - July 16, 1979 ... “The Reach on the Beach “ was an effort by the M3 Group, Ltd. (Madcap Mischief Makers) to place 20,000 people on the Atlantic Beach, making a human chain holding hands together reaching over 26 miles from Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral to Fern Street in Melbourne Beach. Each section hosted 700 people for a total of over 20,000 people. They submitted this effort for entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. In 1936, Mr. Stuckey set up a roadside stand selling pecans. His wife made pecan candy that also sold at the stand. In 1937, they sold the roadside stand and opened their first retail store in Eastman, Georgia. Before long, two more stores were built in Georgia and in 1941, a new one was opened in Hilliard, Florida. Eventually the company at its peak had over 350 locations. I think its down to 70 or 80 now. As a kid traveling through the South my mother always insisted we stop at Stuckeys because she said a lady would never stop at a truck stop to use the restroom. ~ Thomas Dye

The Swastika For many years I have asked the question, “Why do so many people hate Jews?”, to which I only get a few answers, like “They killed Jesus”, to “they are money hungry people”, to this one, “They always think they are right on everything. You can’t tell them anything as the Bible says they are God’s chosen people, they think all other races are ignorant, especially Christians!!!” I don’t know what the answer is, but from the KKK to other hate groups, like the BLM, they all seem to despise, with a passion, the Jewish people. It’s just not here in America, but many other places in the world, why? I don’t know! But I said that to say this, “What happened to the beautiful symbol that meant “well being” and “good luck” to becoming a hate symbol, especially meaning I hate Jews?” Yes I know Hitler, who used the swastika as an icon of death and destruction, and the Jews have every right to hate it, but how did all this happen? I mean, what has caused ALL people to see this once beautiful thing as a sign of total HATE? By the way, it’s just not Jews that hate the swastika, but the majority of all white and black Americans. (Funny how some Americans hate Jews and the swastika.) Will people change their minds if they know the truth? I doubt it as we have had this symbol hammered into our brain as “HATE”, but a few do not see it that way, and here is why. I found the majority of this info on the WWW. There is so much history, that I can’t get it all in this issue, and besides you probably wouldn’t read that much anyways. But let’s start from the beginning and like skipping a rock across the smooth waters of a pond, we will only touch down at certain things in history about the swastika. had positive meanings. What is the history of the swastika? Does it now represent good or evil? The Oldest Known Symbol The swastika is an ancient symbol that has been used for over 3,000 years (predating even the ancient Egyptian symbol, the ankh). Artifacts such as pottery and coins from ancient Troy show that the swastika was a commonly used symbol as far back as 1000 BC. During the following 1,000 years, the image of the swastika was used by many cultures around the world, including in China, Japan, India, and southern Europe. By the Middle Ages, the swastika was a well-known, if not commonly used, symbol, but it was referred to by several names: China - wan * England - fylfot * Germany Hakenkreuz * Greece - tetraskelion and gammadion * India - swastika Though it is not known for exactly how long, Indigenous peoples also have long used the symbol of the swastika. The Original Meaning The word “swastika” comes from the Sanskrit svastika: “su” meaning “good,” “asti” meaning “to be,” and “ka” as a suffix. Until the Nazis adopted it, the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck. Even in the early 20th century, the swastika was still a symbol with positive connotations. For instance, the swastika was a common decoration that often adorned cigarette cases, postcards, coins, and buildings. PLEASE READ!!! I didn’t get much done this last month. I’ve been having some health issues that flare up frequently, and you never know when, it’s called psoriatic arthritis. It has whipped my butt for over a month now, but after getting back on the meds they took me off of for a bit, I am feeling a little better. A young man, Brandon Launer from BLK Home Repair & Paint painted the tanks and he got it looking just like I wanted, but that’s about it. Right now just chasing down correct bolts to bolt on the tanks, etc. is a full time job. I bought a service manuel, but it doesn’t show bolt size, so......... After a road trip to TN this weekend, maybe I’ll get a breath of fresh wind and tackle it more in the days ahead. Gettin’ old!!!

Infantry Division and as part of the Finnish Air Force symbol until after World War II. A Change in Meaning In the 1800s, countries around Germany were growing much larger, forming empires; yet Germany was not a unified nation until 1871. To counter the feeling of vulnerability and the stigma of youth, German nationalists in the mid-19th century began to use the swastika, because it had ancient Aryan/Indian origins, to represent a long Germanic/Aryan history. By the end of the 19th century, the swastika appeared in German nationalist “volkisch” (folk) periodicals and was the official emblem of the German Gymnasts’ League. At the beginning of the 20th century, the swastika was a common symbol of German nationalism and could be found in a multitude of places such as the emblem for the Wandervogel, a German youth movement; on Joerg Lanz von Liebenfels’ anti-Semitic periodical Ostara; on various Freikorps units; and as an emblem of the Thule Society. In 1920, Adolf Hitler decided that the Nazi Party needed its own insignia and flag. For Hitler, the new flag had to be “a symbol of our own struggle” as well as “highly effective as a poster,” as he wrote in “Mein Kampf” (“My Struggle”), a rambling discourse on Hitler’s ideology and goals for the future German state that he wrote while imprisoned for his role in a failed coup. On August 7, 1920, at the Salzburg Congress, the red flag with a white circle and black swastika became the official emblem of the Nazi Party. In “Mein Kampf,” Hitler described the Nazis’ new flag: “In red we see the social idea of the movement, in white the nationalistic idea, in the swastika the mission of the struggle for the victory of the Aryan man, and, by the same token, the victory of the idea of creative work, which Chops 39
as such always has been and always will be anti-Semitic.” Because of the Nazis’ flag, the swastika soon became a symbol of hate, anti-Semitism, violence, death, and murder. What Does the Swastika Mean Now? There is a great debate as to what the swastika means now. For 3,000 years, it represented life and good luck. But because of the Nazis, it has also taken on a meaning of death and hate. These conflicting meanings are causing problems in today’s society. For Buddhists and Hindus, the swastika is a commonly used religious symbol. Unfortunately, the Nazis were so effective in their use of the swastika emblem that many do not even know any other meaning for the swastika. Can there be two completely opposite definitions for one symbol? The Direction of the Swastika In ancient times, the direction of the swastika was interchangeable. Some cultures in the past differentiated between the clockwise swastika and the counterclockwise sauvastika. In these cultures, the swastika symbolized health and life, while the sauvastika took on a mystical meaning of bad luck or misfortune. But since the Nazis’ use of the swastika, some people are trying to differentiate the two meanings of the swastika by varying its direction—making the clockwise, Nazi version of the swastika mean hate and death, while the counterclockwise version would hold the ancient meanings of the symbol: life and good luck. ********* Did any of this change your mind on how you feel about the symbol? Yes? No? Why? Many soldiers returning home from WW II wore them as a prize of defeating Hitler and the Natzis, just like when they would take a Hitler youth knife off of a German soldier, or a War Eagle Medallion with the swastika or SS bars being held in the eagle’s talons. WW II soldiers also came home and started riding motorcycles and the war prizes were a part of their biker attire, along with the bomber jackets and flight helmets that they also wore. Later, those same pieces of war victory became objects of “shock value” to intimidate Chops 40
or ruffle the feathers of all the straight people, the Joe Citizens!!! Even some vets didn’t like it, but most had their stash of memorabilia tucked away somewhere. I guess it was, “To each his own”! Have some people here and abroad used the swastika in the wrong manner, perhaps as in a way that Hitler meant it, yes I think so, but not everyone. Just like the native Americans and cowboys before us, many bikers use the emblem as a symbol of good luck and well being, while others still do it to shock others, however through the 1st Amendment, they have that right. Since World War II, the swastika has become stigmatized as a symbol of hatred and racial bias. It is used frequently by white-supremacy groups and modern iterations of the Nazi Party. Along with other symbolism employed by the party, the use of the icon has been outlawed in Germany. And because of that, being outlawed in Germany, many hardcore biker groups have quit incorporating the swastika into some of their patches that they have “flown” for decades, because they have grown so much in size that their clubs have reached many European nations. Just like many feel that the raised fist of a black man signifies racism, yet he has a birth right to do so, or even someone giving you the “finger”, though some may not like it, they constitutionally have that right, so does someone who wears a swastika. Do any agree with certain hate groups using it, not really, but like one man mentioned, a raised black fist offends a lot of anglos also. I guess it boils down to this, if you give someone the finger, or a black power fist or a Hitler raised hand, you better be able to back it up, when it offends the wrong people. I do not condone violence, but this stuff brings it on. It’s easy to wear that patch or raise a defiant fist or flip off a cop when there is a large group backing you, but do so as an individual to a certain other group or individual and it could cause you to get a bruised eye. All of it comes down to how people see things differently, example which of these is ok or PC and why? Black Power! Brown Power! White Power! I reckon that’s another subject, Peace, Cochise!!! His birthday was Dec 7 and in 1941 he was 10. His father gave him a special pocket knife for his birthday gift. It was rather large for a boys pocket, and had two blades, a corkscrew and a screwdriver tip. It had a black walnut handle, and a loop on one end for a chain or a belt clip. The young boy felt all grown up when he wore it on his new leather belt with the big brass Navy buckle his mother had given him. As the years past, the boy grew into the larger knife and he carried on his person fishing hunting and eventually into the Army and Korea. He never forgot it’s meaning of responsibility and usefulness, and it served him well. As fathers sometimes do, he had a top drawer in his chest on chest that had special keepsakes in it, up high away from curious children, and wives who don’t understand such treasures. Recently we moved this man into a nursing home, as he was unable to care for himself any longer. I opened up the drawer and was overwhelmed by the secret items he had stored there. Pictures of family, drawings we had made and even a model car I had built just for him on one of his birthdays. Cards from my mother, and us, and rings, jewelry I never saw him wear, wrist watches, and about every pair glasses he ever had. And there was the pocket knife, attached to the strip of leather with the brass buckle. Time had stood still, in that dark drawer, it seemed. I brought the knife on a new leather belt with the old buckle to my Dad one Sunday Morning, and he was overjoyed to wear it again. As he sat holding the knife in his hands, he opened the end of the knife which had a threaded end, I didn’t know was there. In the end was a recess, which held a thin US dime, so a boy could always use a phone if he had to. He removed the dime still there, an uncirculated brand new dime......dated 1941. Chops 44

1910. Blanche Forman (1884 – 1959) was an elementary school teacher and principal from Illinois. She and her husband Hamilton came to South Florida in 1910; they lived in a tent in the Everglades in what is now the town of Davie. In 1912, they became the first lock tenders on the New River canal. Because there was no grocery store accessible, she had to raise her own chickens for eggs and meat. Blanche became an excellent shot with both rifle and shotgun to keep the alligators and other wild animals away from her chickens. In later years, Blanche engaged in activities associated with women’s service organizations. An elementary school in Davie was named in her honor. Chops 53

BIKE NIGHTS IN THE AREA Bike Night at OB’s is on Wednesday Nights!!! They always have a great band, and serving up cold drinks and good food. Of course, they offer a nice portioned plate dinner for a donation ONLY! Most people drop in $5, and each time I have had it, it was tops! So, try OB’s Bike Night this week, and have FUN!!! Bike Nights on Main St. is also EVERY Wednesday evening!!! It starts around 7PM, and goes until the last person leaves. Be sure to patronize these bars, as they have been on mandatory lock down for several months now, or operating at only 50%. Keep the tradition ALIVE ON MAIN STREET!!!

I just heard that Samsula Red passed away at his home up North. Rest In Peace Buddy. Red was a GREAT fan of CHOPS back in the day, when we were really blowin’ and goin’ !!! When he was at Mike’s Corner and saw me pull up, he always came and grabbed the magazines and put them out in their places. He was just a great guy and friend to so many.
