April 10th was a bittersweet day, sweet that we got to party and fellowship with a couple of hundred of friends and family at the Boot Hill Saloon, bitter that on the other end of Main St. our brother Willie from Tropical Tattoo had gotten center punched by a driver in a car, while he rode by on his motorcycle. Will was slammed up against a metal sign post, and broke 4 or 5 ribs and punctured a lung. Today (April 14) he is still in ICU, after surgery to remove a portion of his lung. I know the “Boss” is in severe pain, but I praise the Lord, that he is alive and not paralyzed! As Willie and a crew were headed to my party and turned on to Main St. off of A1A, they hadn’t got a block until a lady exited a one way street going the wrong direction and hit Will and just pushed him right into the post and a concrete trash receptacle. When I got to him he was in a lot of pain, and was scared because he couldn’t breath. After the EMT’s got him in the ambulance and headed to the ER, I walked back towards the Boot when I saw the lady that rammed him. She tried to flee but some of our riding buddies chased her down and stopped her. Apparently, she was intoxicated and had had several charges pending against her previous to this happening. Hopefully she has insurance. There may be a fund raiser soon, but can’t say for sure right now, There is a go fund me under Tropical Willie. Please continue to pray for Ms. Jean and Will!!! Chops 6

Just think in 4 years and 2 months, well one month now, we can have another party. I’d like to say I’ll make it to Issue #200, but for now I’ll say Issue #150 will be our new goal, 4 years and 1 month away!!! My family and I was overwhelmed at the number of people who showed up on Saturday the 10th for our 100th edition party. Someone told me we had over 250 people come through from 3:30pm till 6:30pm, and another said there was about 150 bikes filling ever parking lot on every corner of Peninsula and Main, plus the streets where full as well. A pessimist said it was the FREE beer and food that brought them out, but my family believes it was the love of the magazine and us that caused folks to show up!!! As of this writing Willie is still in the hospital dealing with bleeding in his chest cavity from broken ribs and removal of 1/2 of his left lung. As in most cases of being in a hospital, an infection has sit in where the tubes are exiting his body. He is still in much pain, but overall seems to be improving daily, other than the infection. Just keep on praying for he and his wife Jean. Two wonderful people. Josh Brown, a long time bouncer/security guy at The Legendary Boot Hill Saloon has conceded to cancer, but NOT without a hard fight. I DO NOT understand “WHY” there has NOT been a 100% cure found for this screwed up decease. Look how they pushed the VACCINE through, yet they seem to be lollygagging around on cancer. $$$!!! Josh was a great guy and I am sure there will be a celebration of life soon for him. Speaking of Celebration Of Life services, I am almost certain as soon as Willie is better, we will have one for Brooke at Tropical Tattoo. What a beautiful person she was, as well as Tino. Both gone so early in life. Also, some of my riding buddies have asked about my best friend’s (JW Springer) memorial service. I can’t say when or where at this time, but maybe we can incorporate Jay Dub’s service in with Tino’s and Brooke’s. All three are so missed and were greatly loved! Cochise Chops 7

You know that you are some what blessed (special) when an American Biker Icons show up at your party, like this guy, Panhead Billy! Anyone and everyone that knows him or has ever meet him, knows that he is not only the :real deal” but just a fantastic human being, willing to set and spend time talking to anyone who asks him a question about his life in general, and always humble about when speaking of him personally. He may brag on his old bike, but never on his self. Much of what we know of Billy is what others say about him, and it’s always the same, he is humble, he never asks for anything, he always sleeps outside by his bike and he has never changed over the years. I really haven’t got to talk to him much because I try to let others have their time with him, but there seems to be a mutual admiration between he and my magazine, which I load him up with back issues every time he comes to town. Here are a few pics of the true nomadic biker and a short story about my 5 year old grandson who with his momma, daddy and 2 sisters flew in for the 100th edition party from KY!!! ********** My grandson Huddy has no clue his picture is being made with an American icon, Panhead Billy. I wanted to get a picture of him with Billy so that 10 or 15 years down the road he will realize that he was standing in the presence of a true nomadic Chops 10
biker. When Billy saw him he told him to get on the bike, so he climbed up on it by himself and this picture was taken. As I was walking away the guy in the orange shirt behind said, “Kick her to life son!” So 5 year old Huddy, to all standing arounds surprise, took
his right hand flipped out the kicker peddle and started standing up on it. It made Panhead Billy‘s, mine and his daddy’s day! Rock on Hud and Billy!!!

TECH TIP OF THE MONTH By Cochise Some of you still run a clutch cable and it needs to be maintained just like everything on your bike. I think they make a cable lube, but here is how I have been doing it for years. Loosen your adjuster up, (shorten it), whether at the perch or in the cable down near the front of the motor. Loosen it up enouth that you can now remove the cable end freely from your lever. Take a piece of black electrical tape (which works better than masking tape) and wrap it around the cable end, as to make you a funnel. Now pour some oil of any kind down in to the funnel and let it seep down the cable. Some may exit where the adjuster is, but take your hands and hold the adjuster together, and let it seep on down to where the cable goes into the side cover or wherever it goes. What I am rfering to here is a 5 or 6 speed, but it works on the old 4 speeds as well. If you want that cable to last, do this. Now, remove the tape, put the end back inside the lever and perch, and re-extend the cable adjuster, until you have about the width of a quarter of play between the lever and the perch.

PLEASE READ!!! Okay, so far we have got the frame sand blasted, thanks Pete Rosati and painted, I did this by hand with a brush and some Rustoleum paint. No offense to anyone but I didn’t want powder coating on this frame, I’ll save my bartering power for the rigid Evo build. A young man, Brandon Launer from BLK Home Repair & Paint is prepping the paint for me and going to lay it down too. So far he has it looking good. I will go with a Matte Dark Blue on the tins, since we couldn’t salvage the original paint (patina)!!! Mike Dyabelko from up in PA has sent me two pretty nice spoke wheels and some really nice rear shocks, plus some other parts. Others are waiting for me to start bolting things on, so I can put together a list of what I need! Thanks, Cochise

If Only I Was A Groupie................. ...........or a suck azz, I would be more popular and in the Kool Kid’s Club!!! (Tongue In Cheek........Maybe......LOL) What is the Kool Kid’s Club and how do you get in it? Who or what picks you for this distinction? Well, let me start by saying that people who have somehow reached stardom, then gets to pick and choose who comes along with them...........for example, the “builders’ from the A&E TV program “Biker Build Off”, that presented to us supposedly “Big Shots’ in the industry, and if they “made it” on TV, then their entourage grew to include others, such as groupies. Indian Larry reached Rock Star status through his Chopper Builds, and deserved great recognition, and all his “before stardom” friends were brought along, like Keino, Paul Cox and others, (by the way, both of these mentioned were stars on their own, but not yet brought to the public’s attention)!!! Many quickly latched onto Larry’s coat tails and went for the ride. I could name a few, but won’t. They kissed azz until they were at every photo shoot, TV deal and big events, so they were now “IN”! (By the way, I don’t think Larry picked, only accepted) The same ones then got a break, and started their own platform of the KKClub, and if you kissed their asses and such, you could ride with them. Michael Lichter is a humble “Boss” of one of the KKClub’s. I believe it was unintentional as Michael is the best, but if you ever get to go on a shoot with him, or riding, BAM...........you’re in!!! Bobby Seeger Jr., who bought Indian Larry’s after Larry’s untimely death is another one that so many, including me, admire. Bobby is straight up and as plain as you can be, but he draws a HUGE crowd to his annual Indian Larry Block Party. He doesn’t Chops 44
in any way put himself on a pedestal and will quickly tell you he is NOT a rock star or any one for that matter, BUT I know of no one who doesn’t love him and would give up a digit or two just to ride with my dear friend and brother. He’s as cool as they come, bar none!!! Another was the crew from the magazine Backstreet Choppers. If you were PC with them, which means do not question their agenda, and you wanted to work for free, except perhaps free entry to one of their gigs, you were in. But if you rocked the boat, you were phased out. Not all of them wanted to be worshipped, except for maybe a few! I rocked that boat often and was cast aside until a few years ago when the owner contacted me and apologized for harsh treatment (some behind my back or on forums I was locked out of) and that was cool, I forgave him. Who are some of today’s rock stars in our world, both national and local? I believe Chris from Cycle Source has arrived, and he deserves it from all his humble and hard work. Billy Lane is one! If you hang with Bill, you will be noticed immediately. I like Billy a lot but never kissed up to him. I treated him just like he treated me, with respect. Definitely a leader!!! Warren Lane, Billy’s brother is another person who not only builds the coolest old school choppers than anyone (on par with Larry), but is a person people want to hang out with. Warren is extravagant in his work, but deep down he is just plain vanilla. Definitely a leader in the KKClub whether he realizes it or not, Locally? I believe Willie from Tropic Tattoo is a leader and if he asks you to go with him, it’s something to mention to others. People come and go with Willie’s crew. I see a lot of jealousy involved between old friends and new ones. Some act like they know him in a super personal way, but don’t. Old friends will laugh at this, while new friends will agree. Marcus and Shaun from Trailer Trash Choppers are becoming more and more recognizable today, both locally and nationally, not just because they build bad azz bikes, but because Shaun really knows how to work social media. They kind of limit the number of people who ride with them, as they just don’t like riding with large groups. These two men would never say they were any body, BUT they are loved & respected nation wide. (I personally think my magazine is what made them famous..HaHaHa!!!) I just want to say that most of the people mentioned in this article, except for maybe 2 or 3 have ever really put themselves in as a leader of a KKClub, it just happened, and I think it was because THEY REALLY ARE KOOL!!! I believe we all like to be recognized by our peers and perhaps to be a tad famous in our world of bikes, choppers and riding, I know I do at times, but I will not nor every kiss azz to get there. Has it cost me? Yes! Am I satisfied over my decisions, yes for the most part. I wish I had of got to know some people better that has now passed on. This really wasn’t because I didn’t want to be a groupie, as much as I would not push my myself on others or I wouldn’t stand in line. I see so many more here, doing what I do. Is it good or bad, or both? I guess each person has to decide. Really the biggest problem I have with groupies and those who like being sucked up too, is this. Your idol probably doesn’t know you even exist and will not give you the time of day outside of the public arena. Or some will use you as favors to better their product or name, with your labor and skills, and never mention your name. (This is usually on the national level.) Then there are those bad guys who will suck you dry, emotionally, financially and spiritually because they know they can. I knew a family that loved this one preacher to the point they couldn’t even function normally. They were good people who sent ALL their money to this snake oil salesman, however when they went to see him, they were turned away. Will yours see you Chops 46

The Bikeriders By Danny Lyon (All Taken From The WWW, So NOT My Info) Lyon’s first book, was a study of outlaw motorcyclists in the collection The Bikeriders (1968), where Lyon did more than just photograph motorcyclists in the American Midwest from 1963 to 1967, he also became a member of the Chicago Outlaws motorcycle club (not sure on this) and traveled with them, sharing their lifestyle. According to Lyon himself, the photographs were “an attempt to record and glorify the life of the American bikerider.” The series was immensely popular and influential in the 1960s and 1970s. All of Lyon’s publications work in the style of photographic New Journalism, meaning that the photographer has become immersed, and is a participant, of the documented subject. (The Bikeriders was printed 3 times, 1968, 1998 & 2014) (First Print) In 1968, a small and unassuming book of photographs featuring America’s bikers was published. Little note was taken of its release, and it rather quietly disappeared. Today The Bikeriders is recognized as a seminal work of documentary photography by one of a new generation of photographers. Right now it is treasured both as a cult classic and a standard of photojournalism. (Second Print) In 1968, just before Easy Rider roared its way into American consciousness, Danny Lyon published The Bikeriders. A seminal work of modern photojournalism, this landmark collection of photographs and interviews documents the abandon and risk implied in the name of the gang Lyon belonged to: the Chicago Outlaw Motorcycle Club. With images and interviews that are as raw, alive, and dramatic today as they were three decades ago, this new edition includes startling new images: 15 additional black-and-white photographs and 14 color prints--long thought missing--of works originally published in black-and-white. With a new introduction by the author, The Bikeriders rides again, capturing like never before the dawn of the counterculture era. (Third Print) First published in 1968, and now back in print for the first time in ten years, The Bikeriders explores firsthand the stories and personalities of the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club. This journal-size volume features original black-and-white photographs and transcribed interviews by Lyon, made from 1963 to 1967, when he was a member of the Outlaws gang. BIKE NIGHTS IN THE AREA Bike Night at OB’s is on Wednesday Nights!!! They always have a great band, and serving up cold drinks and good food. Of course, they offer a nice portioned plate dinner for a donation ONLY! Most people drop in $5, and each time I have had it, it was tops! So, try OB’s Bike Night this week, and have FUN!!! Bike Nights on Main St. is also EVERY Wednesday evening!!! It starts around 7PM, and goes until the last person leaves. Be sure to patronize these bars, as they have been on mandatory lock down for several months now, or operating at only 50%. Keep the tradition ALIVE ON MAIN STREET!!!
