The architectural HERITAGE returns to the city

The first buildings to come to life are the ones that show up in the foreground along Avenida do Mar, next to the archaeological remains of the Fort of São Filipe. This series of houses will be restored according to the original design, ensuring that the architectural heritage of Funchal is kept alive. In the recovered houses there will be space for housing and commerce, thus recovering the reality of other eras.

O primeiro edificado é aquele que surge em primeiro plano desde a Avenida do Mar, o do casario junto aos vestígios arqueológicos do Forte de São Filipe. Este conjunto de casas será recuperado de acordo com a traça original garantindo que o património arquitetónico do Funchal se mantenha vivo. Nas casas recuperadas haverá espaço para habitação e comércios, recuperando-se assim a realidade de outras eras.

The most iconic building on the quarter, the former Insular mill company, is the centrepiece of the project. There are apartments of different sizes with spacious areas and balconies with sea views that let the sunlight in. This is where you’ll find the concierge, available 24 hours a day, and an entrance hall that is calm and spacious, with the old chimney in the centre, which has long since been part of the city’s imaginary and thus remains a sculptural element of this building.

Ali existem apartamentos com várias tipologias, espaços amplos e varandas que deixam entrar a luz e a vista para o mar. Next to the central frame, the old building was given a makeover - facing Rua do Anadia - keeping the volumetric, but creating an ode to the industrial revolution, where glass, concrete and metallic structures create a flowy arrangement and open up the project to the city’s Old Town. The glass building stands in contrast to the reconstructed historical mansion, lending even more eminence to it. The sophisticated and modern apartments breathe lightness.

Ao lado do edifício central foi dada nova roupagem ao antigo edificadovirado para a Rua do Anadia - mantendo a volumetria, mas criando ali uma ode à revolução industrial, onde o vidro, o betão e as estruturas metálicas criam uma estrutura leve e abrem o projeto à Zona Velha da cidade. O edifício envidraçado, surge como contraste ao reconstruído casario histórico, ao mesmo tempo que lhe confere ainda mais importância. Aqui os apartamentos sofisticados e modernos respiram leveza.
