You voted. We tallied. After more than 330,000 votes, here’s a full list of the first, second and third place winners — and even a few tying winners — of our 2025 Best of Cobb contest.
MARCH 2025
The Best of Cobb contest is a testament to the incredible lineup of Cobb’s local businesses, people, places and things, and taking home first place is meant to be celebrated. Check out spotlights of standouts from five popular categories, followed by a full list of first place winners.
Situated on a picturesque block of Marietta Square with a view of the town’s historic train tracks, Cool Beans Coffee Roasters is a cherished community hub, known for its charming atmosphere, personable staff and highquality, freshly brewed coffee at a fair price.
Jalyn Rangel had worked as an instructor at Iron Dragon Martial Arts in Marietta before, but when she purchased the studio with her husband, Luis, in March 2020, it was different. They molded the studio to their own philosophy of teaching the martial arts the right way, earning respect from students and families across Cobb County and beyond.
Ashley Keeshen’s journey to becoming a certified holistic pet health coach began when her dog suddenly went blind three years ago. With little research available and no clear treatment options, she turned to holistic pet health, setting her on a path that would eventually lead to the creation of Bark N’ Bunk, a dog boarding facility in Marietta that prioritizes individualized care and holistic wellness.
For years, Vickie Brown dreamed of opening her own floral shop but hesitated to go solo. That changed in September 2004 when Brown took a leap of faith, founding Faith Designs Florist with $10,000 and a prayer. Today, the Kennesaw-based florist has remained a staple in Cobb County, garnering praise from the community for its one-of-a-kind floral arrangements, artistry and top-notch customer service.

130 Now and Then
As an Atlanta native, Cobb County’s growth through the years continues to impress me.
Whether I’m exploring Marietta Square, cheering on the Braves at Truist Park, hiking Kennesaw Mountain or indulging in retail therapy at the Avenue East Cobb, there’s always something new happening — a restaurant opening, a development breaking ground or a local business making its mark.
This growth recently hit home when I returned to Kennesaw State for the second time as an alumna, not a student. (A former professor invited me back to speak to budding student journalists about my career, and of course, I was happy to oblige.) Walking around campus again gave me a serious case of post-college blues, so I decided to take a trip down memory lane and revisit my old stomping grounds. I was stunned — in the best way possible — by how much had changed. At least three new apartment complexes had seemingly sprung up overnight, Main Street in downtown Kennesaw was bustling — even a dingy dive bar we frequented got a major facelift and rebranded with a new name (That was long overdue). The entire area felt more alive than ever.
I believe Cobb is truly in its Golden Age, thanks to the vibrant web of businesses, people and places that make this community thrive. And what better way to celebrate Cobb County than with Cobb Life Magazine’s annual Best of Cobb contest?
Best of Cobb is certainly unlike every contest I’ve ever seen. Winners aren’t selected based on advertisers or popularity of the paper — all nominations, votes and winners are selected by our readers of Cobb Life and the Marietta Daily Journal. This contest is by the people, for the people.
I’m pleased to announce that the 2025 Best of Cobb contest garnered a whopping 330,500 votes in just three-and-a-half weeks. Whew, y’all really brought it home this year!
For this year’s “Best of” issue, we’ve shined a spotlight on five standouts who took home first place in their respective categories. Curious to see who they are? Flip to our Winners’ Spotlight feature on page 10 to find out. We also included a full list of first place winners on the next page because everyone deserves to be celebrated.
Additionally, we chose a select few winners to highlight in individual feature stories: Faith Designs Florist, Cool Beans Coffee Roasters, Iron Dragon Martial Arts and Bark N’ Bunk — some have been staples in the community for years and others are new members of Cobb.
After browsing through our list of first, second and third place winners, be sure to check out upcoming April releases, familiar faces in Cobb scene, our Now & Then photo segment and Cobb Eats’ Dining Deets, a spinoff of MDJ’s Cobb Eats page that rapid fires local dining and restaurant news.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who joined us March 20 for our celebratory Best of Cobb event, presented by Superior Plumbing, at the Jim R Miller Event Center. We danced. We ate. We mingled. We laughed. And, most importantly, we celebrated our winners.
Happy spring, friends. Enjoy the blooms, sunshine and festive fun happening all over town (just don’t forget your daily dose of Claritin to ward off that pesky pollen).

Who’s the best of the best? That’s debatable but numbers don’t lie. You voted, we counted and thanks to the support shown by our readers, we had more than 330,000 votes cast in the 2025 Best of Cobb contest!

Best Fitness Center/Gym
Best Personal Trainer — Samantha Saunders
At its core, Burn Boot Camp Lost Mountain is a gym with personal training in a group setting, providing 45-minute challenging strength and cardiovascular workouts. It is a place where trainers know the name of every single member on the floating floor, where nutritional support is provided through one-on-one trainer meetings, and where families are supported with complimentary childcare during bootcamps. But, more than this, Burn “LOMO” is a welcoming and inclusive community, full of like-minded women and men intent on
improving their physical and mental health. It is a family who supports everyone who walks through the door, who challenges friends to be the best versions of themselves, and who cheers on anyone who hits a personal best.
Burn Lost Mountain franchise partners Samantha Saunders and Whitney Stripling said they dreamed of creating a community where all members felt safe, welcomed and, of course, challenged. When the trainer pair took over the gym as a resale in April 2024, their focus was on not only growth but also creating a brand new culture.
“We focus our efforts daily on providing the highest quality fitness product while also creating a sense of belonging in the gym,” Saunders and Stripling said. “Burn Lost Mountain truly has the best members in the nation, and it is because of them that our gym has transformed into the special place that it is today.”

Best New Bar
(as of March 2024)
The Drafty Dane Park & Pint is a local community hangout offering Cobb
Countians a chance to bond with other pet-owners over drinks. The business is an all-in-one, members-only dog park and family-friendly bar, with options for single day passes, too. Co-owner Emily Matthews said the idea was to provide a space where both dogs and their owners can have fun.
“We’ve been going to dog parks ... and it was fun for the dogs but not really fun for the people,” Matthews said in an interview with the MDJ in October. “And we would go to breweries all the time and the dogs are on leashes and kind of shoved under tables and they’re not having a great time.”
“This is just the best of both worlds. Dogs can have fun (and) people can have a good time,” she continued.
Matthews runs the business with her husband Brennen Matthews and business partners Fitz Johnson and Suzann Wilcox.
The park’s 19,000-square-foot, off-leash lot has artificial turf, a water feature and shaded seating areas. The lot also includes a fenced-off, small dog area for owners who are worried about their pets playing with bigger dogs.
While their dogs play in the lot, pet-owners can purchase drinks in one of the bar’s upper or lower lounges. The upper lounge is open to the public and pets brought into the bar must be on a leash. Dogs brought to the lower bar and lounge area, which leads to the off-leash lot, must have a membership
and are allowed to roam off their leashes.
Along with alcoholic beverages, patrons can order pre-packaged foods like sandwiches, chips and candies from one of the park’s bars. The space also hosts trivia and other fun community events throughout the year.

Roofing
Marietta-based Georgia Roof Advisors was established 15 years ago with a wealth of industry knowledge. The family-owned business was purchased in 2016 by Naomi and James Gasson, a husband-and-wife team originally from England, who said they were drawn to the warmth and sunshine of America. After settling in Georgia, Naomi and James’ passion for the roofing industry ignited. Since acquiring the business, the Gassons have focused on elevating customer satisfaction by implementing advanced systems and processes as well as recruiting top-tier talent in the roofing industry.
Recognized annually since 2019 with roofing manufacturer GAF’s prestigious Master Elite status, Georgia Roof Advisors ranks among the top 2% of roofing companies nationwide, offering a peace of mind for customers
Unlike other roofing companies in the metro Atlanta area, which primarily focus on insurance claims and roof replacements, Georgia Roof Advisors emphasizes education and long-term roof health. Specializing in roof repairs, replacements and maintenance for both residential and commercial properties, their mission is to empower property owners with the knowledge to make informed decisions that enhance the longevity and value of their investments.
“We combine expertise, innovation, and a customer-first approach to protect your property,” Naomi Gasson said. “Our loyal customer base and strong referral network are a testament to the quality and trust we deliver.”

Best Indian Food
Nestled in the heart of Kennesaw, Taj Mahal Grill offers a unique culinary experience that blends traditional Indian flavors with exceptional service. For the seventh year in a row, the restaurant has been named Best Indian Restaurant in the Best of Cobb contest. At the helm of Taj Mahal are longtime restaurateurs and business partners Raj Bohora and Mohammed Rouf.
“Taj Mahal Grill Indian Cuisine is born from a beautiful partnership, blending our shared passion for Indian cuisine and fine dining,” Rouf said. “Together, we are creating a space where culinary art meets heartfelt hospitality.”
Founded in 2013, the restaurant offers an authentic Indian buffet for lunch and traditional dinner services seven days a week. The menu features a diverse assortment of curry, biryani and rice and fresh naan bread, among other authentic Indian dishes, plus a wide array of vegetarian options.
Bohora said Taj Mahal Grill offers a spacious banquet hall with a capacity of more than 100 guests, making it an ideal venue for birthday parties, anniversaries, wedding ceremonies, baby showers and corporate meetings. The business owners said they strive to create a welcoming atmosphere and give exceptional service at a reasonable price, ensuring a memorable experience for every occasion.
“What sets Taj Mahal Grill apart is our commitment to making everyone feel special,” Bohora said. “From the moment customers walk in, they’re greeted with welcoming words. We kindly offer some mango lassi and desserts to take out to customers while they wait for food to be ready… Our main goal is for every guest to leave with a smile. We can’t wait to share our passion with you. Come visit us and taste the magic for yourself!”

Best Pediatric Group
Best Pediatrician — Kyoung-Soon “Bob” Kim
Stepping Stone Pediatrics is an independent, private pediatric practice in Kennesaw that was founded
in 2015 on the principle of delivering a more personalized brand of care. Spearheading the Kennesaw-based practice is Dr. Bob Kim and a team of dedicated pediatric professionals who partner with parents to provide the best care for their children.
“We try very hard to listen to parents and work collaboratively with them,” Dr. Kim said. “You know your child best and we firmly believe that only by listening to your questions and concerns can we provide the highest level of care.”
Stepping Stone provides a wide array of services, including wellness checkups, same day sickness appointments, immunizations, hearing and vision screenings, ADHD management, prenatal consultations and allergy and asthma management, to name a few.
“We believe this trust is why our patients have honored us with winning “Best of Cobb” in Pediatrics for two of the last four years!” Kim said. “Thank you to all our patients who have placed their faith in us! We will always strive to continue to be worthy of your trust!
Kim received his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his MD from the University of California-San Diego and served his residency at Yale University. After serving as adjunct faculty at the University of Florida, he relocated to the Atlanta area. In addition to providing general pediatric care for patients in his practice, he has also cared for children at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta/Scottish Rite as part of their Hospitalist/Consulting service, was chairman of pediatrics at Kennestone Hospital and served two terms on the board of directors for the local Make-A-Wish Foundation.

blend of coffee, community and camaraderie on marietta square written
Situated on a picturesque block of Marietta Square with a view of the town’s historic train tracks, Cool Beans Coffee Roasters beckons locals inside.
Upon entry, guests are hit with the rich scent of fresh coffee as the wood floor creaks underfoot, reminding patrons of the building’s legacy in the square.
Cool Beans has been in business for 23 years under the leadership of Kevin Langill and his wife, Jennifer.
“The shop has actually been here since 1992 and I was one of its first customers,” Langill said, adding he always aspired to open his own coffee shop, but when it came to actually running one, he had no idea where to start.
Nine years later in 2001, Langill said he was feeling inspired, so he ventured into Cool Beans. Impressed by manager Karlos Cuevas’ coffee knowledge, Langill asked for advice on starting and running his own coffee shop.
What Cuevas said next changed the trajectory of the Langills’ lives.
“His response was, ‘Why don’t you just buy the shop? Bruce (the previous owner) has been trying to sell it for two years,’” Langill told Cobb Life.
To express their gratitude, the Langills honored Cuevas by naming a drink after him — The Karlo, a bold coffee with two shots of espresso. Most mornings, he can be spotted at Cool Beans, sipping his namesake brew.
The people make the place
Fast forward to 2025, Cool Beans has transformed into a local community hub for residents and visitors alike, regardless of age.
“A typical day always starts with the ‘Breakfast Club,’ a group of people that come in every single morning, get coffee and sit at that table,” said Megan Scroggins, manager at Cool Beans, pointing toward a sizable, wooden communal table.
Scroggins has worked at the shop for three-and-a-half years, but admits that she is not the longest-term employee. She gestures behind herself to two of her coworkers, Jessie Freeland and Melo Black, who have worked at Cool Beans for seven and six years, respectively.
“One of the things that drew me to this job is that most of the employees have worked here for a long time,” Scroggins said. “I hate saying the word family because it’s negatively stereotyped at this point, but most of us do hang outside of work.”
Both Scroggins and Langill emphasized that the community is what makes Cool Beans special. For the seventh year in a row, Cool Beans has won Best Local Coffee Shop in Cobb Life’s Best of Cobb contest. Langill said their commitment to affordable prices, highquality products and exceptional customer service is how they’ve garnered the award year after year.
“Within a year of COVID, I had multiple people come in, almost in tears saying ‘Thank you so much for staying open, the daily routine of coming in — even though we couldn’t sit in the store — and grabbing that cup from my favorite coffee shop was so important to me to make me feel like something was normal in a world that was so crazy,”’ Langill said.
This is only one of the many stories on how Cool Beans has made a positive impact on the people of Cobb.
“I was personally part of a (marriage) proposal, I think it was about a year back,” Scroggins said. “He did a square scavenger hunt, had us write on the cup and they did a cute little photoshoot cause I think this is where they met.”
From the beginning, the Langills wanted Cool Beans to be a welcoming place for every member of the community to relax, visit and work.
“It’s always been about a cool place to go,” Langill said. “A place where people can enjoy themselves.”
Another charming aspect of the coffee shop, he said, is its eclectic and curated decor.
“All the art you see here is from local artists and we do not charge them to put their art on the walls,” Langill said. “We get nothing from it besides we’re the space for them to host their art.”
The coffee shop has also been the backdrop for a BBC interview in November 2024 and once closed to film an episode for television show “Halt and Catch Fire” on AMC.
“We’ve had people set up for small shoots and one time we shut our little shop down for 36 hours, which we don’t do very often,” Langill said.
Cool Beans is more than just a space for artists, filmmakers, journalists, morning meetups and furry friends — Langill said it’s a home away from home.
“We haven’t changed too much, and I think that’s a big reason why people love this shop so much is because it is a sense of familiarity,” Scroggins said. “Customers know what to expect and they enjoy the consistency.”
Cool Beans Coffee Roasters is at 31 Mill St. NE in Marietta. For more information on the local coffee shop, visit coolbeanscoffeeroasters.com.

WRITTEN BY JON STYF
Jalyn Rangel had worked as an instructor at Iron Dragon Martial Arts in Marietta before.
But when she purchased the martial arts studio with her husband, Luis, on March 1, 2020, it was different. Now, it would be theirs to mold and create something new.
Little did they know, though, how difficult that first year would be.
Seventeen days after purchasing the studio, they had to close it down due to COVID-19. But the couple rolled with the punches, turning their pandemic-related challenges into opportunities. They didn’t have a huge student base to run classes through Zoom, so they decided to take the time to renovate the studio, at 3372 Canton Road, and make it their own.
Starting with 10 students, the couple also filmed instructional videos, which they posted on YouTube.
What they wouldn’t do was compromise.
The couple wanted to build the studio up the right way, teaching and only allowing students to test and earn belts when they are fully ready.
“It was more of a military environment and a true martial arts environment is more of a
passionate environment where people don’t want to be there just because they are good or they are forced to but because they want to,” Luis said.
“… It results in very good discipline.”
That philosophy of teaching martial arts right the way has earned them respect from students and families, led to a growing student base and, for the second year in a row, led Iron Dragon Martial Arts to win Best Adult Martial Arts and Best Karate/Martial Arts School in Cobb Life Magazine’s Best of Cobb contest.
Jalyn said that the first year winning Best of Cobb was great for the studio, but after touting that victory over the past year, the competition in both martial arts categories grew and the second year winning was even sweeter.
“We used the Best of Cobb tag all year long and kind of threw it out there, so we figured our competition would be coming for it this year, which they were,” Jalyn said.
The studio has also expanded its adult class offerings to kickboxing and jiu-jitsu.
Some of the first students the Rangels worked with at Iron Dragon were Jamie Howard’s four adopted children.

Has helped raise
At the time, Howard and his wife were fostering their kids — then 5, 6, 7 and 8 years old — and looking to help them find a positive physical outlet. One was struggling with fighting at school. All had lived through a tough past and were looking for a foundation to trust.
What they found at Iron Dragon was not only discipline but also support.
“They are tough, but in a super loving way,” Howard said. “… They have been really great leaders to our kids.”
The Rangels also helped the Howard children learn to work through both success and disappointment. At one point, two of the girls were working toward earning the same belt — one was ready, the other wasn’t quite prepared.
Jalyn and Luis went to Howard to ask if it was OK to have his daughters advance separately. They handled the conversation with care and both of the Howard daughters learned from it.
“They pulled aside my daughter and she was in tears because she didn’t get to move up a level but they met it with so much love and encouragement,” Howard said. “… From that moment on, that daughter
Iron
Arts in Marietta teaches martial arts classes to children and adults since it opened in 2020
has gone on to the helper program and really, out of our four kids, has taken the most ownership over her martial arts and it’s been really, really cool to see.”
For the Rangels, doing things the right way is what it’s all about. Plus, making sure that the students are having fun, while growing their passion for martial arts.
“We wanted to instill that love of martial arts in all of our students,” Jalyn said.
Part of doing that was showing students how to appropriately have fun doing the art form, but also have discipline.
“I told a student one time that they were moving like they were soulless,” Luis said. “They didn’t care if it looked good or it didn’t look good, they were just moving like a robot. When you are doing your forms, it’s an art. That’s what the martial arts are about.”
The Rangels have also spent time with outreach at local elementary and preschools, making sure the students and families are aware of what the club can offer.
One thing that separates martial arts studios is the belt-earning process. The Rangels believe each student moves through the process at a different pace, and they adjust the quarterly testing for each student based on their acumen, not a set schedule.
That might seem obvious, but it also isn’t easy and can lead to tough conversations on how the student is progressing. A student must earn four stripes to test for a belt. The first stripe is for form, the second for knowing combinations, the third is for self defense and the fourth is an invitation from the instructors
to take the test.
“We want to make sure that everybody is truly earning that next rank, because if you don’t feel like you’ve earned it, it doesn’t mean anything to you,” Jalyn said. “You need to work hard and earn something and I think that’s something that you should learn at a pretty young age.”

Marietta’s Bark N’ Bunk offers a unique approach to pet sitting, holistic care
WRITTEN BY CARLEY TAYLOR
Ashley Keeshen’s journey to becoming a certified holistic pet health coach began with a personal crisis. When her 4-yearold dog, Nico, suddenly went blind three years ago, she found herself searching for answers. With little research available and no clear treatment options, Keeshen turned to holistic pet health, setting her on a path that would eventually lead to the creation of Bark N’ Bunk, a dog boarding facility in Marietta that prioritizes individualized care and holistic wellness.
For the third consecutive year, Bark N’ Bunk has won Best Pet Sitter/Kennel in Cobb Life Magazine’s Best of Cobb contest, voted on by readers and the community. The business offers a variety of canine services, including overnight boarding, drop-in visits, grooming and client consultations for dogs experiencing anxiety, skin issues or dietary concerns.
Keeshen’s passion for holistic pet care stems from her desire to proactively manage her own dogs’ health.
“I wanted to learn more for myself so I could be a better advocate for my dogs and proactively manage their health,” Keeshen said.
Through extensive training, she learned about the connection between gut health, anxiety and common pet ailments, all of which aren’t always shared in traditional veterinary practices.
She now educates pet owners on the role of nutrition in their dogs’ overall well-being. She highlights the dramatic differences that can come from switching from commercial dog food to homemade, raw or freeze-dried options.
Beyond dietary changes and holistic practices, Keeshen incorporates Chinese veterinary medicine, which focuses on how a dog is feeling and tailors treatment accordingly.
Lee Huey, a Bark N’ Bunk client, praised Keeshen for helping
her dog, Penny, overcome digestive issues.
“Thanks to Ashley’s guidance, Penny is doing so much better,” Huey said in a review.
Unlike traditional boarding facilities where dogs freely mingle, Bark N’ Bunk focuses on one-on-one care to ensure each pup feels comfortable. All paws are welcome at Bark N’ Bunk, Keeshen said, even dogs that can’t stay at other boarding facilities due to their behavior.
“I have a private suite where they can stay and relax because they deserve an accommodating place, too,” she said. “I know they deserve love and a safe space and to not have to worry about seeing other dogs. Being able to accommodate those kinds of dogs and not having a temperament test and being a space for all pups is truly my goal.”
Anastasia Gonzalez, social media coordinator for Bark N’ Bunk, who also helps out with the pups, shares how Keeshen sets Bark N’ Bunk apart from other boarding companies.
“She is willing to take any dog whether they have temperament issues or medical issues and she’s very patient with all of them I’ve noticed,” Gonzalez said. “She really just tries to personalize each dog’s experience to the best of her ability so they can have the best time there based on whatever condition they may or may not have.”
Keeshen emphasizes that Bark N’ Bunk was founded on the idea of doing things differently — offering a personalized approach and carving out a unique niche in the boarding world.
Bark N’ Bunk also operates on a flat-rate system, with no extra charges for outside play, treats or medication administration. Keeshen said that’s because she doesn’t believe in charging for things dogs need and deserve.
Reflecting on the past three years, Keeshen said Bark N’ Bunk is more than just a business — it’s a labor of love, thanks to her loyal client base and the Cobb community.
“It’s amazing to have that support from the community,” Keeshen said. “I’m just excited to meet more dogs this year and to continue with my regular clients giving their dogs all the love and care they need when they’re away.”

Growing up, Vickie Brown always enjoyed working with her hands. At 6, the Marietta native took after her mom, a seamstress, and started sewing. Then she added macrame and embroidery to her list of hobbies. But it wasn’t until she started working at a flower shop in her 20s that she discovered her true calling.
“I worked for a lady named Barbara Gray,” Brown said. “She saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself.”
From unpacking fresh blooms and crafting custom arrangements to witnessing the joy flowers brought to customers, Brown immersed herself in the floral industry — and loved every moment of it. As her passion for flowers continued to grow, so did her dream of opening up her own floral shop.
“It was such a big dream of mine, but for a while, I always hesitated to go out on my own,” Brown explained.
Her sister, Tammie, however, kept encouraging her to take a leap of faith. So with $10,000 and a prayer, Brown finally went solo, opening Faith Designs Florist in September 2004.
“That’s why it’s called Faith Designs because I really had to trust,” Brown said. “I left a 10-year job, and I was a single mom with a daughter in college and four in high school… My only regret is I wish I’d have done it sooner.”
With the help from her family, Brown’s budding floral business continued to expand until it outgrew its original
wide array of floral services, including custom floral arrangements by occasion, from sympathy and birthdays to weddings.
brick-and-mortar store in east Cobb. In 2010, she took another leap of faith, moving Faith Designs to a larger space in Kennesaw off Cobb Parkway.
“I’ve been here ever since,” Brown told Cobb Life. “Moving to Kennesaw was one of the best things I ever did.”
Fifteen years later, Faith Designs has remained a staple in Cobb County, garnering praise from the community for its one-of-a-kind flower arrangements, artistry and top-notch customer service. For the seventh straight year, Faith Designs was voted Best Florist in Cobb Life Magazine’s 2025 Best of Cobb contest.
“I just feel so honored,” Brown said. “Winning Best of Cobb continually reminds me that I’ve accomplished my dream.”
Faith Designs offers a wide variety of floral services that are tailored to each client and occasion, from weddings and birthdays to sympathy and everyday celebrations. Step into the store and guests are greeted by the charming perfume of fresh florals and team of designers buzzing around the space like honeybees in a hive.
“There (are) different types of flower people,” Brown said. “Flower trucks just hand you flowers, they don’t arrange them. Event florists only do certain things. A full-service florist, like I am, does it all: corsages, sympathy, events. We’re limited to nothing.”
Faith Designs also offers same-day delivery for orders across Cobb County and neighboring cities, although Brown said this service is often misunderstood.
“Some people think we’re a pizza delivery service,” she said with a laugh. “That we can get there in 30 minutes or less from taking the order. We have a process and a system that works.”
When asked how Faith Designs has maintained a loyal clientele through the years, Brown said it’s because she runs a tight ship. Flowers are delivered fresh to the shop each morning to
ensure quality and longevity, new employees undergo training to learn the fundamentals of floral design and no order leaves the store until it’s just right.
“My motto is if I wouldn’t send it to my mother, it doesn’t go out the door,” Brown said. “People tell us our flowers last longer than anybody and there’s a reason for that.”
But, ultimately, Brown said her business has remained trusted for so many years because of her designers, some of whom have been employed there for years.
“I’ve got a lot of talented designers,” she said. “99.9 percent of the time we hit the nail on the head when customers are asking for a certain thing.”
For Amy Wilson, a designer at Brown’s shop, flowers are practically in her DNA.
“My parents started one of the first flower shops, Carney’s, in Marietta when I was a baby,” said Wilson, who’s been at Faith Designs for four years. “... This is all I’ve ever known. I’ve worked at other places, like doctor’s offices, but I always get pulled back into flowers.”
Similarly, Wilson’s daughter, Chloe Allen, was a teacher for Cobb County Schools when she decided to change her career path and follow in her family’s footsteps. She’s been at Faith Designs for about a year, working alongside her mother as a floral designer.
“I’m glad I made the switch,” Allen told Cobb Life.
Though orders remain steady year-round, Brown said Faith Designs sees the most business around the holidays — particularly Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day, which she has affectionately nicknamed “Valoween.”
“Mother’s Day is like the World Cup and Valentine’s Day is like the Super Bowl,” Allen said. “Valentine’s Day, you’re only buying for your lover, but Mother’s Day is more widespread — a lot of people have a mother, wives, grandmothers.”
Beyond floral services, Brown said giving back to the community is at the heart of her business. Part of Faith Designs’ outreach includes partnering with the Superior Plumbing Kids Club and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Department to create an unforgettable prom experience for local special needs students.
“We donate all the corsages and boutonnieres,” Brown said. “Just seeing the students come here and light up and giggle — it’s precious and touches me every time.”
As Faith Designs nears its 21st anniversary this fall, Brown has no plans of slowing down — though she admits retirement could be on the horizon, just not quite yet.
“I have five children and 10 grandbabies and I love to be crafty, so I would eventually like to have more time to do that,” she said. “But, you know, I enjoy what I do. I wake up every morning and look forward to coming to work and brightening someone’s day.”
Faith Designs Florist is at 2680 Cobb Parkway Suite D in Kennesaw. For more information on Vickie Brown and Faith Designs, visit faithdesignsflorist.com

Gluten free meal options are also available.
