New roundabout design A uckland Transport presented its design for the roundabout at the Coatesville-Riverhead Highway and Dairy Flat Highway intersection to Coatesville residents at the CRRA pop-in session on 21 November. The artist's impression above shows the roundabout, which is one of eight significant safety improvements scheduled for construction along Dairy Flat Highway during 2019. More will follow in 2020. The improvements are the result of crash statistics, consultation with the public and feedback received from close to 800 respondents. AT spokesperson Mark Hannan says AT plans to commence the physical works (roundabout) at the intersection in March 2019. The completion is expected between September and December 2019. "There's actually a lot of retaining work to be done at the site before

the roundabout construction can be started," he says. Drivers can also expect the speed limit along Dairy Flat Highway to drop from 100km/h to 80km/h on the open road and to 60km/h at the Dairy Flat village and Kahikatea Flat Road and DF Highway intersection following public consultation early next year. The CRRA committee and Rodney Local Board member Louise Johnston have focused on improving road safety throughout 2018. Louise in particular has campaigned to raise awareness about the dangers road users face on Dairy Flat Highway. Her update is on page 10.
