Playcentre kids and parents with their manaaki box already full of goodies
Xmas means giving at Playcentre P DECEMBER CONTENTS
laycentre children are learning the importance of giving at Christmas by donating items to a manaaki box (community care box). For the next few weeks, the children and their parents are donating food items each week to stock Christmas hampers that will be given to people in the community. Aged from 0-6, the youngsters are quick to learn the importance of looking after people who are less fortunate than themselves. Claire Walls who runs the new members' programme at the Coatesville centre says, "We get a lot of feedback from local primary schools when our children start that they're empathetic and caring. Christmas is a great time to encourage them to think about others," she says.

In the last week of term, the Playcentre children will also visit a local rest home to read stories and share their Christmas baking with the residents. Of course, Santa is also on their minds. And even though the centre has a multicultural community, including families from Russia, Korea, Japan, China and Thailand, the man in the red suit is familiar to everyone. He's also rumoured to be making an appearance at the Christmas party this weekend! There are currently 16 Coatesville Playcentre families. Anyone interested in joining can call Claire Walls on 021 173 7160 for more information, or email the centre at: Coatesville@playcentre.org.nz
