Congratulations to our Olympians

C

ongratulations and welcome home to Erica Dawson and Micah Wilkinson who competed in the Nacra 17 foiling catamaran class at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Erica hails from Coatesville and suffered a broken fibula in training only four weeks before she was due to head off to Tokyo. The powerful pair may not have won a medal this time, but Erica certainly deserved an award for the bravery and determination she showed getting herself fit enough to race. An awesome achievement from two complete champions.

Next Steps in Fibre Build

C

horus gave Coatesville locals a progress report on the fibre network build at an information night on Wednesday, 4 August. Rob Broadbridge, Head of Contract Management (right) and Steve Pettigrew, External Communications Manager (left) also explained how the next stages of the fibre build process will come together. In short, Chorus is working well ahead of schedule and will finish building the network in December this year. The way it works is that Chorus builds as far as it can on the roadside to the edge of council-owned land, stopping at each property's boundary. Once the network build in an area is complete, Chorus will inform property owners they are ready to install the connection. Property owners then initiate the next stage — taking fibre from the boundary up to the house — by signing-up with a broadband provider. In its brochure Connecting to Fibre with Chorus available at the meeting and on the Chorus website, Chorus says: The first thing that's important to know is that while Chorus has built the fibre network and our technicians

will come and connect your home, it's not Chorus that provides your broadband service. That's the job of your broadband provider." Choosing the right broadband provider will be different for everyone. Rob Broadbridge says people need to do their own research and work out what their usage needs are. To help with that process homeowners can visit websites like Broadband Compare www.broadbandcompare.co.nz and get to know their options. This website is a bit like the Trivago of internet providers. It lists options and deals like free gaming or Amazon Prime access, discount pricing and monthly costs. "There are around 80 providers in New Zealand and all providers want your business," says Steve Pettigrew. "They're working hard to make their offer the most appealing." Once property owners have signed up, their provider will liaise with Chorus and an install date will be agreed. "On that day, someone needs to be at home because the Chorus technician will need access to the house to carry out the installation," says Steve.
