Golden Start for Anzac Day Service
nzac Day dawned with perfect weather for the commemoration service at the Settlers Hall. The event, which is organised each year by the Coatesville Residents and Ratepayers committee and managed expertly by Tertia Wildy from the CRRA committee, was another success. Claire Craigie, music teacher at Coatesville School, had formed a community choir of around 50 singers from Coatesville School, Albany Junior High School and Kristin School as well as parents and several teachers, backed by a string group. The choir were led by Claire's daughter Florence Callister and performed a moving rendition of In Flanders Field, written by Dr John McCrae with music by Jacobson and Emerson, while Claire added to the

poignant atmosphere by accompanying on the harp. Their musical contribution added a special tone to the morning of rememberance. MP Mark Mitchell gave the address while Local Board member Lisa Whyte performed the role of MC. Once again, Rev Robin Palmer from Browns Bay Presbytarian Church led the hymns and prayers and as usual, a horse and rider were present to acknowledge the horses of WWI and animals that serve in wartime. This year, local rider Neve Anderson and her six-year-old pony Bailey, did the honours. The pair stood calmly throughout the service, even during the wreath laying when people got close to them. But both kept a cool head and Bailey never put a hoof wrong. To see more photos, go to page 6.
