Signs of the times L

ockdown in Coatesville started in a blur as everyone rushed to get their must-haves and complete their must-do's, before being confined for four weeks. But the community quickly adapted and the neighbourhood started to look quite different. Once the hectic traffic disappeared off the Coatesville-Riverhead Highway, local families got out on foot, making the most of the fine weather and enjoying the slower pace on the roads in the last warmth of autumn. A week or so into it, evidence of growing community spirit started to surface. One family made a sign that

they stood outside their gate with chalk drawings on their driveway saying 'Kia Kaha' with other supportive messages. Others put teddy bears on their letterboxes and fences for passersby to spot. Plenty of people used the mornings to exercise, some taking their kids on ponies, others on bikes and Coatesville's canine population were out in force, enjoying more walks than ever before with more people than usual. Although the economic fallout will determine how the rest of 2020 is remembered, for a short time at least, being isolated at home seemed like it wasn't all bad.
