SPRING ARRIVES WITH A BUMPER EVENTS SEASON
What a time to be a Coastie!
Spring has sprung and we are LOVING the warmer weather creeping in.
So much has been happening for us here at Coasties Mag, we’ve been busy launching new and exciting partnerships and have plenty more on the horizon.
You read our words, but have you heard our voices across the airwaves of the Central Coast?
In a partnership with the live and local radio legends at Star 104.5, we’ve been doing a weekly broadcast with Gina & Matty on their breakfast show.
You’ll catch us on a Friday morning covering what’s on for the weekend ahead.
We had a cold but memorable night at The Coast Shelter Sleepout at the start of August. We were kept warm by the generosity and love from our #supportlocal community: together, we raised just over $3,000 for a very worthy causeTHANK YOU to all of our valued supporters.
People have been doing it tough, both in business and personally. In July we gave away $5,000 worth of advertising to local businesses as part of our ‘Coasties Cares’ initiative. There was no hidden agenda or reason behind doing this, it was just our way of letting you know, we hear you and we love you!
Until next time Coasties,
Tash + Nikki x

Rated the best and most kid friendly cafe on the Central Coast! Welcome to the institution that is the Tame Fox of Erina
This place is a real winner when it comes to breakfast, brunch or lunch, with options for even the fussiest of foxes.
All of your brekky favourites are featured on this menu, from the sweet, indulgent waffles or acai bowl, to the savoury options of chilli eggs, eggs benny and avocado smash, all served from 7:30am.
But, if you’re more of a brunch or lunch fan, the menu opens up with plenty more lunch suited options that pair perfectly with an ice cold drink. Think burgers, tacos, salads and squid.
Tame Fox gets not only ours, but our little one’s votes every time.
Glee Coffee, Teaspoon Co Organic tea, juices, smoothies and shakes using all the alternative milks. Plus a licensed bar, serving beers, wine and cocktails daily from 10am!
The playground is in a fenced-off area with plenty of tables in and around. There’s parking galore! Yay. And, they’re also all set for private functions, so check out the Fox for your event.

The gelartist formerly known as ‘Mr Goaty’ has a new name and a fresh brand identity, reflecting their truly local flavours and their place of pride in our community.
Launching as Australia’s first retail goat’s milk gelato in 2016, Mr Goaty has always been one of the Coast’s most respected, loved and iconic businesses. But as they grew and evolved, the direction of the business shifted to a more traditional style gelato made with cow's milk. And that meant the name started to confuse people. And so, Mr Goaty morphed into Spoon Bay Gelato.
“Spoon Bay is one of our favourite places and represents what we are all about – beaches, nature and community,” Owner Julia told us.
Focusing their passion and creativity on their unique flavours and freshness means they’re churning daily (when you have a scoop of Spoon Bay, know it was churned that morning!) and also opting for a more bil h
You’ll see the Spoon Bay Gelato truck and their cute-as-pie Gelato Bikes popping up at corporate events, weddings, beaches, cafes, local farmers markets and collaborating with major local Central Coast events including Avoca Markets, Love Lanes, Glenworth Grazing Festival, and Long Jetty Festival
They’re a prominent, extremely popular and loyally loved feature at these events as they serve up premium artisan gelato scoops and take home tubs to adoring fans and repeat customers.
Keep up to date with all of their popups and event locations over on their website (spoonbaygelato.com.au) and on the socials @spoonbaygelato
There’s nothing little about this brewery. Opening on the June long weekend to a packed house was only the beginning...
Here at Coasties we welcome kidfriendly establishments with our arms wide open. If they happen to serve a brew or two (of either kind) they get an even bigger tick of approval from us.
Let’s just say, Gosford’s newest addition to the brewery scene - Big Little Brewing (BLB) is ticking a lot of boxes right now!
Run by local Coastie families, BLB wanted to ensure they catered to the whole family, including the fur babies: they’re super dog friendly!
For kids, inside you’ll find board games and colouring options and weekly live music, while the covered outdoor area (home to a small beer garden) houses classic garden games like cornhole and giant jenga.
There’s even endless amounts of chalk for the kids to draw all over the concrete with, and/or (let this be your warning) themselves... Just like our kids did!
Along with their rotating schedule of food trucks every weekend, they also have a wide range of “other” (aka not beer) drinks on offer, including a hard lemonade brewed on-site, cider, a great range of wines sourced through local wine gurus BamVino Cellars, and did we mention choccy milk and juice for the littles?
And the beer? More ticks, obviously! Brewed by traditional methods and with top quality ingredients you get no-compromise beers. Our pick is The Nitro Stout: it’s perfection And for the warmer spring arvos it has to be the Mexican Lager
Stuck for choice when that midday hunger pang strikes?
Not anymore! Check out these new places serving up some real classics, from Asian street food to gourmet sandwiches, you’ll keep the tummy rumble at bay!

Self described as ‘your local sandwich shop’, the simplicity has us hooked But their sandwiches are far from simple; prepare for an explosion of flavour, with fillings that will put hairs on your chest. Serving a local brew from @legends.au, or for those who prefer, lavender, beetroot and turmeric lattes all day alongside chaga mushroom, magnesium cacao and chai.

“It’s very rare that someone checks every box, and exceeds expectations, but Victoria has done just that. She is talented, fun, and made us feel relaxed allowing us to be ourselves for the whole session Her energy, ideas, photography, and editing made our session and photos better than anything I could have imagined She made me feel beautiful, comfortable and confident capturing the best moments of the day
I can’t wait to use Victoria again to capture more special moments in our lives!”

This month it was our mission to bring to you the ultimate spot to take both the kids and pups for a brunch that will please everyone.
Warnies Cafe is well established in a gorgeous heritage listed building in Warnervale. On a six acre lot by the railway, the cafe has several areas to settle in for a feed Dogs are allowed in all outside areas including the front veranda, side garden and on the back lawn by the kids playground. Dachshunds are particularly well loved at Warnies: it’s where the annual World Dachshund Day is hosted every June.
With Bindi and Minka welcoming their brand new baby sister in May, it was all paws on deck to start finding spots suitable for skin babies too.
For the kids (and kids at heart) check out the crazy shake menu. The ultimate loaded shake will power the kids up just in time for them to burn it all off on the playground or exploring the fenced grassy yards.
Warnies make an effort to source produce from local and Aussie suppliers They also have both gluten and dairy free options on the menu.
Bookings are recommended and can be made online or over the phone
Open seven days until 4pm (opens 6am weekdays & 8am weekends).
Star 104.5's Back to School has officially kicked off! And this year Gina & Matty are joined by yours truly, Coasties Mag
You may have already heard about the Central Coast's newest match made in heaven. It's the ultimate union of local love, coming to you as the new duo that is Star 104.5 X Coasties Mag.
Let's be straight, here at Coasties, we'd be lying if we told you we were not ridiculously excited by this collab. Together we're already making (sound) waves and the next cab off the rank in our exciting partnership with Star 104.5 is no exception. It's the annual Back To School with Gina & Matty, but with an added Coasties Mag bonus...
Every Friday in September, Star will be giving local primary schools the chance to win a live Star 104.5 Breakfast Show broadcast with Gina & Matty, from their school.
Kids at the lucky schools not only get to hang out with Gina & Matty as the show goes to air, but also get the chance to meet friends of the show. We're talking, the mighty Central Coast Mariners, The Australian Reptile Park and local legends at Eastcoast Beverages, all coming together to make Back to School an unforgettable experience for local kids.
Behind the fun that's to be had, this is also a fundraising opportunity for participating schools, with each host school receiving a $500 donation. All up, Star 104.5, together with local partners, donates $5,000 to local schools annually.
Now for our Coasties bonus *cue the drumroll...
We introduce: the Coastie Mag Cover Colouring Competition!
This year we've come on board, joining the Back to School action and giving one local student the chance to have their colouring skills and artwork showcased on the cover of the next Coasties Mag (our summer issue that drops in December).
Simply scan the QR code to enter your school and don't forget to tune into Gina & Matty from 5.30am – 9am on Star 104.5.

Join us as we stroll down memory lane at the achievements of the ‘Cool Coast Kids’ from our past issues. You’ll be amazed by what these young legends have been up to!
Blowing minds throughout the skating community worldwide with his incredible achievements, Harvey was crowned the National Open Men’s Champion in the King of Concrete Series 2023/24. He was selected by NSW Institute of Sport to join the Pursue 32 program, a pathway for future Olympians, with eyes specifically on the prize of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
The Australian Institute of Sport has categorised him as an ‘emerging’ athlete. He was selected by Skate Australia to be part of their Skateboard Pathways Program and to skate in the International Pro division at this year’s BELCO BOWL JAM in Canberra He’s also been invited to compete against eight International Skaters at Woodward PA, USA for the Nitro Junior Games
We haven’t even touched on his major achievements of becoming a flowsponsored skater for well-known brands, Independent Trucks and Santa Cruz Skateboards.
Oh! And then there was his wildcard selection to represent Australia on the World Pro Skate Tour in Dubai April ‘24. He ended up qualifying 32 for the quarter finals, and placed 29th overall out of 111 skaters.
It’s no wonder Harvey was invited to take part in the Australian Olympic Skate Team’s Paris Olympics preparation and training programs over in the US, too.
Let’s just say, keep your eyes on Harvey as greatness is in his future.
Not shying away from some incredible results since we last featured her, Alanni has continued to turn heads in the water From a second place at the NSW State Titles, to a win in the Youth Slash and Bash in Newcastle and second place at the Surfest Cadet Cup in Sandbar.
Back at her local, she ended up on top, winning the North Shelley Beach Boardriders point score. But, not content with just winning the Women in the Waves point score in B grade, she also took out the win in the Malibu division!
Sponsored by local store, Slimes, and well-know brands DHD and FCS, she has certainly made a name for herself. With not too many competitions in the near future, it’s back to the water to keep working on her noticeably stylish riding and manoeuvres.
A big year for Gabby this year, who was named Assistant Captain for the National U18 Women's Team, competing in Spain. She was also selected for the National Women's team, competing in Istanbul. She has a lot to look forward to this year, with selections for U18 and National Women's team fast approaching. She’s currently seeking sponsors from local businesses so please get in touch with Coasties if you’d like to help
The last time we saw Kyah, she was diving from great heights. We were a bit saddened to hear that she has since left diving due to the lack of infrastructure for divers on the Central Coast. But, that quickly turned to awe when we learned that’s shifted her focus to athletics, in particular, high jump and long jump.
Her involvement in Little Athletics from when she was a ‘youngen (from the age of eight) has meant she’s qualified for State in both of these events over the past few years.
She currently trains with her jumps coach Kerry Smith at Mingara Regional Athletics Track and has been accepted into the High Performance Strength and Conditioning program run through Central Coast Academy of Sport.
She recently competed at Hunter Region Independent Schools, placing first in both high and long jump and was named girls 14 year age champion. Next, Kyah looks forward to competing at AICES in September and hopes to qualify for Combined Independent Schools.
We’ve loved catching up with Gus, now in Year 8 and our very first Cool Coast Kid feature, and seeing how far he has come with his incredible anime-style art. He’s taken his art to skate decks, creating incredible canvases for people to buy.
Meet Dave. And meet Stella, his shiny, silver trailer dishing up the bangers! Picture fluffy buns from Burnt Honey, sausages from The Butcher’s Chop in Woy Woy paired with Dave’s own 100 percent handcrafted pickles, sauces and salts.
Coasties Dave, his partner Amanda and their two girls recently found a home for their beloved Stella in Ettalong.
So, if you’re yet to discover these wonders, we recommend getting down to the Peninsula STAT! Dave shared his faves of the Coast with us.
One of our favourite spots for coffee, (besides brewing our own at home) is Kafich Espresso Bar in West Gosford. Maybe it's our love for food trucks, but we can't resist their delicious coffee. Plus, the kids adore their Burek! And, the folks there are wonderful.
For a family meal or just a relaxing afternoon, Margarita Daze at Umina Beach is a top pick. After a long swim at the beach, there's nothing better than enjoying a refreshing Margarita or a cold beer with their mouth-watering Szechuan Squid The kids love the pizza and pink lemonade.
We bliss out at La Tierra Curativa. It’s definitely our happy place We also love Central Coast Float for a rejuvenating float, sauna, ice bath and massage. Both are run by beautiful humans who we love to support.
Then there’s the stunning bush walks around Brisbane Waters National Park and Woy Woy Bay, Kariong, Pearl Beach, and Patonga with the kids. We’re grateful to watch the changing flowers and plants through the seasons and connecting with the lands of the Central Coast.

The family-friendly adventures on the Central Coast Makers Trail you must try
Of the 12 artisan food and drink producers offering unique visitor experiences on the Trail, two add a special touch for families and kids.
The much-loved, Coastie icon; Adri’s Gingerbread runs sessions that incorporate a bit of the behind the scenes of the production as well as DIY gingerbread creating. Be it learning the secrets to Adri’s award winning, hand-iced cookies or unleashing artistic flair and creativity by decorating their own, the kids will certainly be having fun.
Welcome to the only place on the Central Coast where both kids and adults can design their own chocolate bars! It’s the famous Create-A-Bar Experience at the Chocolate Factory. Every little detail from choosing your own base to hand-selecting the toppings and their placement is left up to the designer: that’s you!
And while learning all about chocolate making, the factory has offers a truly hands-on and interactive experience that is just perfect for sweet-toothed kids.

Here at Coasties, we’re all about uncovering those secret spots. And that's where Ghosties Beach and her caves comes in. This stunning stretch is found in the northern reaches of our region within the Munmorah State Conservation Area. And once you’ve been, you’ll know what all the fuss is about, it's a true scene stealer.
But before we dive into the walk deets... it’s safety first. Here’s what you need to know and note: this is an unpatrolled beach so if swimming, make sure you're with someone.
Also, check the tides. The caves are safe to access but only when the tides are low enough. If in doubt, do not enter the caves.
GHOSTIES CAVES
2-ISH HOURS RETURN
Take a short (roughly 15-20 minute) wander down Moonee Beach Trail bush track towards Moonee Beach. From there, go south along the beach. If you’re up for extra exploring head out onto Flat Rocks Point. Otherwise, at the end of the beach you'll see a sand dune. Walk over that and you've landed at the breathtaking white sands of Ghosties Beach. The caves of Ghosties are at the opposite (southern end) of this stretch.
On entering the cave it’s possible to go all the way through to the clearing pictured above As you do this don’t forget to look up, down and around for the magical pink hue that lines the walls of these stunners. Absolute “wow moments” are a given!

As a Central Coast birth and postpartum doula and a wholefood chef, Laura knows the healing benefits of a warm and cozy meal - both for body and spirit.
This mild curry ticks the boxes for the whole family and is perfect for leaving as a gift at the front door for a brand new mama.
Ingredients:
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 brown onion, sliced
1 red capsicum, diced
Method:
3 cups of pumpkin (about 500 grams), diced
5 cloves garlic, chopped
1 ½ tbsp minced ginger
2 bay leaves
2 tsp cumin
2 tsp turmeric
1 ½ tbsp curry powder
1 ½ tsp pink salt
1 ½ tsp cinnamon
2 cups red lentils
1 litre chicken bone broth
400 g tin of diced tomatoes
400 g can of coconut cream
2 ½ cups baby spinach
To Serve:
Beetroot sauerkraut
Basmati rice
Red chilli, thinly sliced
In a large saucepan warm the coconut oil over low heat
Add the onion and sauté until slightly softened, then add the garlic and ginger
Stir for one minute, then add the capsicum, pumpkin, and spices
Fold in the remaining ingredients, keeping the spinach for later
Cover and gently simmer for 30-45 minutes over the lowest heat, stirring regularly to ensure the lentils don’t stick on the bottom of the pan. Top with water or extra broth if needed
Once the lentils are juicy and fully cooked, add the spinach and stir until just wilted
Serve with basmati rice, a generous dollop of beetroot sauerkraut, and sliced chilli if desired
Founder of Artevo Aesthetics
“Seeing the confidence in my patients eyes as I hand them the mirror is the best part of my day."
Jodie believes that beauty isn’t about changing who you are it’s about enhancing what you already have.
Her approach is grounded in the art of subtlety. She focuses on volumising and wrinkle-relaxing treatments that smoothen fine lines, restore lost volume, and rejuvenate the skin’s overall appearance.
One of the most important aspects of her work is respecting the unique structure of your face. She knows that every face has its own character, and her goal is to preserve and enhance that character with treatments that blend seamlessly into your natural features. By focusing on youthful enhancements that work with your anatomy, she creates results that are both beautiful and believable never overdone or artificial.
Leave feeling more confident and refreshed, with a look that is youthful and vibrant, yet unmistakably your own. At Artevo Aesthetics, they’re not just transforming appearances; but boosting self-esteem and helping their clients feel their best, one 45-minute appointment at a time.

We’ve found three activities with holistic wellbeing for kids truly at their core. N I K K I T I E D E M A N
As if keeping the kids entertained and occupied wasn’t enough of a task, there’s the added layer of choosing activities that are somewhat (and hopefully) educational, and that will support and nurture the emotional and physical wellbeing our our little ones. We’ve found three local operators who tick all the boxes.
All children are artists! At least that's what our friends at Naturally Creative Kids in Toukley reckon. We have to agree, especially when kids are given the tools, encouragement and safe space to experiment and thrive. And that's exactly what they'll get at art classes with these Naturally Creative Kids
Little ones don't only expand their creative skills, they grow their selfexpression and boost self-confidence and esteem while having fun.
Naturally Creative Kids classes can be booked by term as well as individually. See all their classes right here: naturallycreativekids.com.au/classes
Next up: when a food scientist, nutritionist, educator, wannabe farmer and chief mess-maker is at the helm you just know that what the folks at Little People Nutrition (LPN) are delivering is going to be a whole lotta wholesome goodness.
LPN are about connecting our kids to food (how it is raised and grown and where food comes from), their communities and the environment via exploration of food using STEM, story, cooking, music and gardening And, teaching them how to develop healthy relationships with food.
They run workshops, do professional development for parents and local schools and have a multitude of educational resources online, but that isn't the only way you can connect with and engage LPN, they also recently founded a not-for-profit children’s community garden in Tuggerah called The Golden Grove Garden.

Last but certainly not least is Chouchou Bebe in Tuggerah. Now, there’s no shortage of indoor play centres across the Coast. But Chouchou Bebe aims to hit a little differently. It’s proven that physical movement and exercise are winners when it comes to burning off excess energy and steam and helping to regulate emotions.
Chouchou Bebe is intergalactic themed and chock full of trampolines, slides, ball pits, games, and rides. Having developed their own unique play equipment the goal is for instinctive, free play without the constraint of being “taught” and rule following. Constant research and development and equipment upgrades are the norm here.
Owned by local pharmacist Louis and wife Hien, whose inspo to bring Chouchou Bebe to the Coast came from their own children and how they play as a family.
Cue late night offerings for both kids and parents, with great dining and playing. A big tick for those working longer hours out there
And because you can’t pour from an empty cup, this play centre also has the wellbeing of the parents at heart, offering a “drop ‘n shop” service throughout the week. They’re open from 8.30am daily to 9pm on Thursdays through Sundays and 6.30pm the other days.
