State Park Interpretive Specialist Leanne Roth and Suzie Gonzales lead a line dance of as part of the Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony for the new boardwalk at Carpinteria State Beach on Oct. 27. A total of 1,720 feet of boardwalk now provides easy pedestrian and wheelchair access to the dune area just east of Linden Avenue, while protecting the sensitive habitat from being trampled. Built in two phases, construction began in the fall of 2015 as a collaborative project between the state Department of Parks and Recreation and the California Conservation Corps, funded by a Proposition 84 Nature Education Facilities grant and a grant from the Environmental BILL SWING Enhancement and Mitigation Program.
