Trees will stay at Sanitary District

Canalino School third-graders received two weeks of swimming instruction at the Carpinteria Community pool on school days from May 21 to June 1 as part of Carpinteria Unified School District’s long-standing swim curriculum. CUSD students receive additional swim practice in sixth-grade as part of the district’s efforts to provide education that goes beyond a sole focus on academics, as social/emotional skills are also taught, for example. “Some students are getting in a pool for the first time,” noted Canalino Principal Jaime Persoon. Swimmers participate in five-different categories based on skill level and experience. The program is funded by Parents for Canalino, the school’s parent group. KARLSSON
