JOSHUA CURRY

Dual Language Immersion Kindergarten teacher Melody Aguila reads “El gato ensombrerado” to her class at Canalino Elementary School on Friday, March 1, in celebration of Read Across America Day. Fifty volunteer readers from the community, including City Council members, Sheriff’s deputies and business leaders, read to and interacted with students in the library throughout the day. In preparation, students make their own paper versions of Dr. Seuss’ cat’s hat, although they rarely need motivation to enjoy word play and silliness. For more Seussian fun, see page 14.
