When it rains, it floods

Woody debris packs the banks of Carpinteria Creek under the new Via Real bridge. The recently built Caltrans structures held up well in the Jan. 9 flooding, though the low-slung mid-1950s highway bridge just downstream became a dam in the deluge, briefly creating a lake around it.
