WELCOME TO THE SALISH CUP

After an impressive start to the 2024-25 season the Coastal Tsunami will look to add a few more wins to their name when they host the White Rock Whalers (3-1) and Aldergrove Kodiaks (0-4) for a set of games this weekend.

The Whalers started their season with a 9-1 defeat against the Ridge Meadows Flames, but have since won their past three games and outscored opponents 18-7. White Rock has scored six goals in each of their past three games and are playing a Tsunami team that has only been scored on six times this season.

To make things more interesting, this game kicks off the battle of the Salish Cup which is a three-team championship between the Whalers and Richmond Sockeyes with the winner being the team that wins the most games against each other at the end of the season.

Buckle up and get ready for a great game!

JONAH USSHER

ETHAN SMID

The Surrey, BC, product is expected to draw a big crowd on the Sunshine Coast, with grandfather Wally Buono and others ready to cheer on their family member

Ussher is a right-shot forward entering his second season in the PJHL. He played 45 games with the Whalers last season and found the back of the net nine times, registering 12 assists for 21 points.

This year, Ussher is averaging over a point per game, with three goals and two assists for five points in four games. One of his goals has come on the man advantage.

The 2004-born forward from Williams Lake, BC, is the newest player to have a letter added to his jersey. Smid has appeared in all three of his team’s games so far and has produced a hat trick performance and two assists for five points.

His biggest offensive outburst so far this season came in the home opener last weekend, where Smid scored three goals and assisted on another. He was responsible for four of his team’s seven goals last weekend, and there will no doubt be eyes on him this weekend as he hits the ice.
