Delaware District 3 has no trouble in opener vs. East By Jason Feather Staff Reporter It didn’t take long for the local Delaware District 3 team to put people on notice that they weren’t happy just being known as the host team. The girls representing nearby District 3 put on
quite an offensive display in their first 2025 Little League Senior League Softball World Series game, pounding out 11 hits on their way to a decisive 14-2 win over the East Region champs from Lyme-Old Lyme Little League in Connecticut on Monday, July 28. Cierra Lewis, who was a member of
last year’s District 3 team, had herself a nice day in the circle and at the plate. The Sussex Technical High School product fired two innings of one-hit ball, with three strikeouts, while going 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Adrianna Heck also contributed a 2-

Southeast downs Canada to start Series By Darin McCann Executive Editor Nakiya DuBose blasted a second-inning grand slam, and Chesnee Strickland struck out 16 over seven innings to lead USA Southeast (Hartwell, Ga.) to an 8-1 win over Canada (Repentigny, Quebec) in their opening game of the Senior League Softball World Series in Roxana on Monday. Emory McCollum singled with one out in the second inning to get things going for Southeast, and back-to-back walks from Kinsley Duncan and MaryBeth White loaded the bases with two
outs, setting up DuBose’s centerfield blast off Canada’s Beatrice Vezina to propel Southeast to a 4-0 lead. That was all they would need for this game, as Strickland was dominant on the evening. The Southeast pitcher only gave up two hits and a pair of walks over seven innings, to go along with those 16 strikeouts. The only run she allowed was on a pair of errors in the bottom of the fifth. The first inning saw some brilliant defense by both sides. In the top half of the frame, Canada shortstop Angelica Passarelli snared a sharp line drive off the bat of Strickland to quell a potential
rally from Southeast. Not to be outdone, Southeast rightfielder White made a shoestring catch off the bat of Coralie Aube to wrap up the bottom half of the inning. Southeast added a run in the top of the third when Erika Royston doubled to center, plating pinch runner Tamyriah Allen and pushing the lead to 5-0. Emory McCollum singled-in Peyton Jordan in the fifth inning to make it a 6-0 game, and two unearned runs in the seventh gave Southeast their eight runs on the night. Canada’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth, when Liliane Lemay
scored on an error. McCollum had two of Southeast’s five hits on the game. For Canada, Frederique Bienvenue and Coraly Surprenant had the team’s two hits. Surprenant also made a brilliant play in rightfield in the top of the fourth when she charged a fly ball, made the catch and unleashed a dime to third-baseman Rosalie Paquette for the double play. Vezina threw seven innings for Canada, allowing six earned runs, giving up seven walks and recording five strikeouts.

Central rebounds to take out West By Jason Feather Staff Reporter Things were not going well early on for the champions of the Central region, from Michigan’s District 4 by way of Grand Blanc. It wasn’t a matter of lack of chances but just a case of not getting the timely hit. That all changed in the bottom of the 5th inning, as the Central girls scored three runs to erase a 2-0 deficit before adding an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th for a 4-
2 win over the West region champions from Honolulu, Hawaii. Central got a single from Ayannah Jackson to get things going in that decisive 5th inning. Kayla Blumenschien followed with a double that scored Jackson, and Lyla Turmell traded places on the bases with Blumenschien thanks to her own RBIdouble. An error by West shortstop Alia Anzai off a hard-hit ball from Kate Mitchell put runners on the corners for Central. Adysen Freeman stepped to the plate and lined a run-
scoring single to center that scored Turmell, to give Central the lead they would not relinquish. Laureena Baehl drilled a home run over the fence in leftfield for the Central insurance-run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Elizabeth Lawrence, Turmell and Blumenschein all had doubles in the game as Central managed nine hits total in the win. Jackson was the leading hitter for Central, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Turmell came on in relief as the
third hurler for Central, to cover the final four innings in the circle. The hard-throwing righty blanked West on the scoreboard, while allowing just two hits with a walk and strikeout. Paisley Sue Aoki and Kaylah Sato (triple) each had two hits for West, while Mauliola Zuttermeister, Kaci Kimura and Anzai had the other hits. Zuttermeister took the loss, going the distance while allowing all four runs to be earned on nine hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

Southwest pulls away from Latin America in opener By Darin McCann Executive Editor USA Southwest (Gloster, La.) used a four-run sixth inning to pull away from a feisty Latin America team and secure a 7-1 win in the opening game for both teams in the Senior League Softball World Series in Roxana on Monday. Sage Tolar got things going for Southwest in the bottom of the sixth
with a single to center. After a fielder’s choice, Aaryana Alfaro singled to center to score Madisyn Leonard and extend Southwest’s lead to 4-1. An error extended that lead to 5-1 before Journee Williams laced a line-drive double to center to score Kinley Collins, and a groundout by Brenna Massey made the score 7-1. Southwest’s Alayjha Matthews got the win on the bump for Southwest,
only allowing one run and four hits over her seven innings of work. She walked six and struck out eight. Her counterpart, Latin America’s Ana OquendoChico, took the loss — allowing four earned runs over six innings. Southwest got out to an early 2-0 lead. Taylor Madison reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on a single by Aja Williams, who later came
around to score herself on a single by Sage Tolar. Latin America (Guayama, Puerto Rico) narrowed the lead to 2-1 in the top of the third. Oquendo-Chico led off with an infield single, and following a single by Lorena Andino-Velazquez, came around to score on a wild pitch.

Game 1 Continued from page 4 Adeline Lutz had the other hits for District 3. Kruger, Harris and Brionna Clark each plated two runs, with Lutz also scoring twice.
Lewis left the circle to turn the ball over to Makenna Blades, Makayla Eikenberry and Willie, to finish things off. Each of the relief pitchers threw one inning of no-hit ball, with Blades and Eikenberry striking out two apiece, and Willie retiring all three batters she faced on strikes. Eikenberry was charged with
the two East runs, but both were unearned. The lone hit for East came off the bat of Kaylyn Vernon in the first inning off Lewis. The District 3 pitcher would retire the next two batters via strikeout, stranding Vernon on third after she advanced there via a stolen base and wild
pitch. District 3 scored twice in the first, four more in the second, three each in the third and fourth, and then two more in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule following the East’s at-bat in the bottom half of the fifth inning.

West recovers from opening loss to take out Canada, 9-3 By Jason Feather Staff Reporter There was little time for the U.S. West region champs from Honolulu, Hawaii, to dwell on their opening poolplay 4-2 loss to the Central region champs from Grand Blanc, Mich., on Monday, July 28. From the looks of things in their second game, on Tuesday, July 29, it was a case of out-of-sight, out-of-mind, as the West exploded for seven first-inning runs on their way to a convincing 9-3 win over Canada.
The West hammered out 10 hits in the contest, but the very first hit of the game really set the tone for the winners, as Mauliola Zuttermeister smashed a leadoff homerun deep over the fence in leftfield. That hit ignited the West offense, as they would go on to score five runs before even one out was recorded. Following the home run, West would combine three walks, two errors and a double by Alia Anzai for those runs. They would add a run-scoring double by Lexey Wong-Barboza and a sacrifice-fly off the bat of Paisley Sue Aoki

for the other two runs in the inning. Two more runs in the top of the 7th inning made things even more comfortable for West, with Kaylah Sato smacking an RBI-double and Kaci Kimura picking up an RBI on a fielder’s choice groundout. Kimura was the winning pitcher in the circle, going the distance while allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits, but with just one strikeout against seven walks on her 111 total pitches. For Canada, which saw its pool-play record fall to 0-2 over the first two days,

Coralie Aube went 2-for-3 at the plate, as did teammate Tekeya Buckley, with Aube recording an RBI, while Buckley scored a run. Asia-Pacific gets offensive early in rout of Latin America By Jason Feather Staff Reporter They were the last team to get to the 2025 Senior League Softball World Series, thanks to travel delays, but the Asia-Pacific squad from Negros Occidental Little League in Bacolod City, Philippines, needed little time to get stretched out for their first game. The A-P girls hammered out 12 hits while scoring all their runs in the first four innings, taking out their opponents from Latin America, 11-2, on Tuesday,
July 29. For the winners, 10 different players recorded hits, with Mary Antoinette Sicapore and Jean Scharlet Estrada both having multiple-hit days with a pair of singles. Estrada knocked in two and scored another, while Sicapore also plated one and scored one. Daniela Bejos, Ann Dyana, Erica Arnaiz and Biel Coline Tanaman each had a double, with Icelle Tanaman slamming a triple as well. Ann Dyana and Nice Lobrido each picked up two RBIs in the win, and Audrie Sarsona scored three times.
Tanaman and Erica Arnaiz split the pitching duties for Asia-Pacific, going four and three innings, respectively. Tanaman allowed a pair of runs (one earned) on five hits, with seven strikeouts against two walks. Arnaiz followed with a shutout and shutdown relief, permitting just one hit with three strikeouts. Latin America, who saw their poolplay record fall to 0-2 after the loss, managed just six total hits in the game, with Yorlanys Reyes-Rodriguez (double) and Alejandra Perez-Sanchez each
going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while PerezSanchez scored one of the two Latin America runs. Ana Oquendo-Chico and Yairenix Collazo had the other hits for the Latin America team, which is from Guayama Softball Little League in Guayama, Puerto Rico, U.S. Asia-Pacific had little time to celebrate their opening victory, as they had to change their focus right away to the back end of their doubleheader against the U.S. East region champions from Lyme-Old Lyme Little League in Old Lyme, Conn.

Southeast tops Europe-Africa in tight game By Darin McCann Executive Editor USA Southeast outlasted EuropeAfrica by a score of 7-5 in a back-andforth affair on Tuesday at the Senior League Softball World Series in Roxana. Southeast jumped out to an early lead in this one, scoring three first-inning runs. Bella Segers knocked in
Nakiya DuBose with a single to right to open the scoring, and then two more came across via errors. Europe-Africa struck back in the top of the second when Anna Materankova singled in Klaudie Pribylova to close it to 3-1, but Central pitcher Chesnee Strickland caught a popped-up bunt attempt and got the runner at first for a double play. Delaware team tops Southwest in extra-inning thriller By Darin J. McCann Executive Editor Taylor Lowe blasted a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to help lead the host District 3 team to a 7-3 win over USA Southwest on Tuesday night at the Senior League Softball World Series in Roxana. This one was tight from the start. The Delaware team opened the scoring in the top half of the first, when Jordynn Bowe singled to right with two outs to score Karly Kruger. Southwest didn’t wait long to answer, scoring on a sacrifice bunt by Sage Tolar that plated a run to tie things up. It looked like Delaware could have had something going in the top of the second, but Southwest shortstop Aja Williams made a terrific catch on a line drive by Lowe, and second-
baseman Journee Williams made maybe even a better catch when the next batter, Mariah McCabe, blasted what looked to be a sure hit. Journee Williams repeated her acrobatic play in the next inning, with another highlight-reel catch on a sharp line drive. Delaware got going again in the fourth inning, when Adrianna Heck singled to left and came around a few batters later on a hot ground-ball single by Adeline Lutz, pushing District 3 back into the lead, 2-1. A feisty Southwest team went on the offensive in the bottom of the sixth. Kinley Collins scored on a sacrifice bunt by Makenzie Tynes. The next hitter, Aja Williams, singled cleanly to center and plated the goahead run. Down to their last at-bats, McCabe ended up on third after an error by Southwest, and Lutz

doubled to left to score a pair of runners and later scored on a single by Kayla Blumenschein. By the time the third out came, Central was up 16-0. Freeman and Dunny paced Central with two RBIs apiece, and the team stole four bases in the shortened
game. For Southeast, Strickland, Bowers and Emory McCollum had their three hits on the game. Emma Mitchell pitched three innings, giving up seven runs — only two of which were earned.

East would answer in the top half of the 4th with their lone run of the game, to tie the score briefly at 1-1, when Avery Goiangos singled to score Brooke Ouellette. Goiangos had the only two hits in the game for East, going 2-for-3. That was the end of any offensive threat from the East, as AsiaPacific would start peppering the ball all over the yard, which led to
three runs in the 4th, six more in the 5th and the game-ending, mercy rule-invoking two runs in the 6th. All told, Asia-Pacific banged out nine hits — but more importantly, they took advantage of six errors on the East in the game. Audrie Sarsona, Nice Lobrido and Daniela Bejos each had a pair of hits, with Bejos’ two being doubles. Sicapore laced a double, and Lobrido also smacked a double and triple in the game, while also scoring twice and knocking in four others. Sicapore, Bejos, Erica Arnaiz and Ashevielle Dela Cruz also scored two runs each in the game. The East struck out 13 times overall against Asia-Pacific’s Arnaiz, who would throw 92 total
pitches in the contest, with 69 going for strikes. She allowed just the two hits and the one run with not a single walk, though she did hit a batter (Ouellette). Clearly establishing itself in its first two games as a “team to watch” when it comes to making it to the finals, Asia-Pacific was joined atop the Pool A standings with Delaware District 3, both at 2-0. The only other unbeaten team through the first two days was Pool B’s Central champs from Grand Blanc, Mich., who were also 2-0. The Southeast’s Hart County Little League from Hartwell, Ga., was 2-1, having been the only team to play three games in the first two days.

Opening ceremonies were held on Monday, July 28, before a series of 4 games were held on the fields at the Lower Sussex Little League Complex in Roxana.
