IT'S NOT EASY LIVING IN A PLACE WHERE, for at least a few months of the year, stepping outside is numbing at best and painful at worst. The morning forecasts warn us of wind chill – what the temperature feels like, as though there were any other way to experience that sensation. And yet there’s something to that. Because that same chill can be bracing. That cold air can wake you up. And the warmth returning to your cheeks when you come back indoors reminds you like nothing else that your blood is still pumping. It is appropriate, then, that Valentine’s Day should be celebrated during this time of year, when all of us are looking for a little bit of warmth.
