A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

And just like that two seasons have passed and we are starting to plan for the holidays. There’s no way to stop the clock but I’m realizing that we can make it feel like it’s going slower if we slow ourselves down.

In the last issue we had an article about meditation and while I’m not a good example of someone that diligently meditates, I think that it’s important that we all find our own source of what we call meditation or our calming state of mind. Especially through the stress of the holidays. For me, I’ve been finding a peaceful state of mind watching nature and sunsets. Taking the time to sit outside and just enjoy the beauty of this amazing place we call home, has been putting things in perspective for me. It's such a blessing to be part of this community, which brings me to my next topic of making a difference.

Sometimes with the holidays, we get so consumed with gifting and forget about the giving. In this issue we have outlined some wonderful community organizations that we can do a kind gesture to help someone in need. Make a difference in someone's holiday this year by making a donation to a local food bank, volunteering your time or supporting our local animal shelters.

Even here in sunny Florida, Autumn is in the air. There is no better way to kick off the season than with a cozy book, (or five!). Below are some fall-favorites, as well as new releases I am looking forward to reading.

First on my list is The Thursday Murder Club, an English whodunnit staring a perfectly odious victim, four elderly friends who decide to take on the case, and two police officers who wish they wouldn’t. This book expertly weaves together humor and heart amid the rolling hills of a countryside retirement home. The best part? The book is the first in a series by author Richard Osman, so you will get to enjoy these characters and the author’s brilliant sense of humor in his follow-up books, The Man Who Dies Twice, The Bullet That Missed, and the forthcoming The Last Devil To Die.

The Three Conditions by Moshe Gersht

In addition to finishing Osman’s series, I am eager to switch gears and read The Three Conditions, a nonfiction book about bridging the gap between positive thinking and positive living. The book is authored by Moshe Gersht and promises insights and advice on acting with intention, expressing certainty, and finding joy. With summer travel winding down and kids heading back to school, it’s a great time to slow down and reflectively read this kind of introspective book. Think of it as literary “self-care.”

The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill

As a children’s author myself, I had to include a few kid-friendly books on my list. For older readers, I recommend The Girl Who Drank The Moon, written by Kelly Barnhill. This spellbinding book follows Xan, a kind witch who lives with a tiny dragon and a wise swamp monster deep in the woods. Ill-informed townsfolk are led to fear Xan and leave their young near her forest home as sacrifices. When Xan finds these children, she rehomes them with new, loving families until one small mistake – feeding a baby moonlight instead of starlight – leads her to take an infant in as her own. Perfect for fans of fantasy, fairytales, and folklore, especially those in middle and high school.

A Very Big Fall by Emmy Kastner

Next up is the charming picture book, A Very Big Fall by the talented author-illustrator Emmy Kastner. This lovely book follows three leaves as they encounter the beauty – and changes! – that Autumn brings. Birch is excited about the big adventure. Oak is worried about what’s to come. And Maple… well, Maple is just plain grumpy. Vibrant artwork and clever dialogue combine in this sweet story for children ages 3-8.

Dinos Don't Meditate by Catherine Bailey

Finally, if you are looking for even *more* books for you and your youngest to curl up with, check out my latest release, Dinos Don’t Meditate. This story features a rowdy T-Rex who learns (albeit grudgingly) the value of downtime. Lively illustrations, fun read-aloud moments, and toddler-friendly meditations make this a great pick for high-energy little ones. More information about the book, my work, and myself is available at www.CatherineBaileyBooks.com.

PARK CITY

When you think of Park City, Utah, winter-time may come to mind. With world-class skiing, breathtaking vistas, and snow-capped mountains, how can one not? As for summertime, it is a treat, and the simple 35-minute drive from Salt Lake City International Airport is a breeze.

At 7000 feet, Park City is a mecca for outdoor adventure and sports-driven enthusiasts, no rest for the weary here! Dawn arrives early, and people are ready to pack it in; there is so much to do! Nestled in the Wasatch Mountain Range, the area offers three mountain resorts: The Canyons, Park City Mountain, and Deer Valley. Each resort offers miles of endless trails for hiking and mountain biking. If you prefer road biking, there are plenty of hills and trails to get you pumping. There are more than 40 miles of non-motorized multi-use pathways spanning the entire area for walkers and bikers, keeping it safe for

everyone. Electric bicycles or e-bikes are also very popular, and the city’s Summit Bike Share system offers e-bikes to their users, offering a great transit option for residents and tourists to explore the city. Pickleball is popular here, and die-hard golfers have no shortage of excellent courses. The nearby Jordanelle River offers nearly every type of water sport, and the Provo River is perfect for fly fishing and rafting. Stop into neighboring Kamas and Oakley to experience a Rodeo.

Park City is home to Utah Olympic Park, which hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics and is now predominantly a training facility for skiers. During the summer, one can enjoy the Alpine Slide to Zip Lining, and you can’t miss the Flying Aces All-Stars Freestyle Shows scheduled throughout the season. Foodies and shopaholics rejoice! The area is brimming with eateries, and the Tanger Outlets may get you a brand-name bargain.

In the heart of Park City is the charming Historic Main Street, lined with buildings built during a 19th-century silver mining boom, now used for some of the area's finest shops, restaurants, cafes, and nightlife. While there, be sure to check out the Park City Museum. On Sundays, Main Street is bustling during Park Silly Sunday Market, offering handcrafted items, food stands, beer, and live music. If you are more into the arts, the community thrives with films, performing arts, and a town full of art galleries. Live music and entertainment are playing at local cafes and at the mountain resorts.

Park City is home to the Sundance Film Festival in the Winter; this festival is the experience of a lifetime, so make sure to plan ahead to get your ticket! Speaking of Sundance, the stunning resort where the festival originated is a lovely 45-minute drive away from Park City. In 1969, Robert Redford bought the land to develop a little and preserve a great deal to be mainly used for conservation and artistic experimentation. Today, Sundance offers an atmosphere steeped in cultural heritage inspired by

the Ute tribes that first inhabited the canyon. Visitors flock there for it's abundance of natural beauty and all of the outdoor recreation it has to offer.

Before you leave, don't forget to pamper yourself with a spa retreat at one of the many wonderful spas offered in the area. One of the most luxurious spas around is at another nearby resort, The Lodge at Blue Sky. Voted the #1 resort in Utah, it's a quick 30-minute drive to the upscale, contemporary mountain retreat set on 3,500 private acres of fields, streams, and peaks. Organic architecture with understated elegance makes this a divine way to spend your day(s) with outdoor adventures and opportunities to learn about the artisanal whiskey-making at the on-site High West Whiskey distillery, handson horsemanship at the 30,000-square-foot indoor equestrian center and up-close animal encounters at the Saving Gracie Equine Healing Foundation.

Regardless of what you love to do, Park City has all there is to offer. There is no doubt when your vacation ends, you will feel recharged, refreshed, and rejuvenated.

ADVENTURE

IN SOUTH AFRICA

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY: LEXI DESIMONE

LOCAL + TRAVEL | ADVENTURE IN SOUTH AFRICA

Over the last few years, my husband, Luke, and I have explored far and wide. We've road tripped across the entire United States and Canada and traveled to Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Spain, Italy, and the Balearic Islands. But we would have never imagined a trip around the world to the diverse landscape of South Africa.

This past February, we packed our bags and spent two weeks in this culturally rich destination. A country where land meets sea, exotic animals roam free, mountains form lush wine regions, and rich cultures collide. This destination was initially out of our comfort zone, but the country proved itself to be inviting, affordable, and easy to navigate.

We flew directly from the States to Cape Town and, 19 hours later, arrived in the rainbow nation. All travel jitters melted away as we made our descent into Cape Town. Passengers got their first glance at 'Table Mountain,' one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Our seatmate, a local born and raised in Cape Town, pointed out the "Tablecloth over Table Mountain." This is a recurring cloud formation that hovers over the mountain, creating the illusion of a white tablecloth draped over the flat-topped mountain.

We landed at sunset just in time to see the orange and pink hues dance over Cape Town, a beautiful city surrounded by dramatic mountains and stunning beaches. We stayed in Camps Bay, known for its long stretch of white sandy beaches bordered by trendy restaurants, clubs, and hotels. There was no shortage of activities, ranging from hiking, surfing, beach hopping, shopping, wine or gin tasting, and museum visits.

We stayed at Bakovenbay Luxury Suites, an exquisite B&B. This villa offers sea and mountain views, just 400 meters (1,312 ft) from the beach, within walking distance of Camps Bay Promenade and the beach. Our hosts, Wolfgang and Suzanne, were extremely accommodating and helpful with recommendations—the antique French romantic decor allowed for a luxurious experience matching

the beauty of our external surroundings. There are a few must-dos around Cape Town to fully immerse in its nature and beauty. Hike Lion's Head at sunrise or sunset for breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Hottentots Holland Mountains. Drive or bike along Chapman's Peak, one of the most scenic coastal tour routes in the world. Swim or sunbathe with the penguins at Boulders Beach Penguin Colony. Ride the Flying Dutchman Funicular up to the Old Cape Point Lighthouse

at the Cape of Good Hope. Explore the lush Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Dine and shop at Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and Woodstock markets.
COASTAL DRIVE | 22

After Cape Town, we made our way to wine country. We sipped our way through the two regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Both wine regions are just over an hour from Cape Town. Here you can go to the Franschhoek or Groot Drakenstein wine tram stations to explore the Franschhoek Valley through curated wine and cuisine experiences. This is a hop-on, hop-off experience, so you can create your perfect day and pick each vineyard you wish to experience.

Franschhoek offers towering oaks, rolling vineyards, Cape Dutch architecture, and French flair that dates back to 1688. There are over 45 wineries in this region to explore and enjoy! But some of the most popular include Boschendal, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, Anthonij Rupert, La Motte, Eikehof Wine Estate, La Petite Ferme, Haute Cabrière, Mont Rochelle, Maison Wine Estate, Grande Provence.

Our favorite winery was Babylonstoren, one of the oldest working Cape Dutch farms in the Winelands region. You can schedule wine, olive oil, and tea tastings or explore the wine cellars, hotel, spa, shops, and family houses. We enjoyed wandering the miles of botanical gardens and farms. The property has three restaurants, but the greenhouse was our favorite for its farm-to-table culinary experience. One of the best keepsakes from this region

outside the wine are the scents. Be sure to snag some lotions, candles, and soaps, all exquisite and easy to travel home with.

We were lucky enough to stay at Johannesdal Villa, located on the 1207 Johonnesdal secluded estate in the Stellenbosch region. The villa is a modern farmhouse curated by the designers who own the property. It sits between dense woodlands and lively gardens with breathtaking mountain views as a backdrop that you can enjoy from your private lap pool. The 1207 property can also be rented for weddings, events, and accommodations. We attended a wedding with the most picturesque mountain views and aesthetic amenities we've ever experienced here. Our favorite Stellenbosch wineries were the Delaire Graff Estate and the Tokara Wine Estate. Both encompass incredible food, views, and wine.

After wine country, we flew from Cape Town to George, where we rented a car to drive the famous Garden Route. The Garden Route is South Africa's most popular 300 kilometers (186.4 miles) stretch of winding coastal roads, beaches, forests, rocky shorelines, and culturally rich towns. This route offers activities such as hiking, whale watching, beach hopping, oyster samplings, game reserves, national parks, and elephant sanctuaries along the way.

LOCAL + TRAVEL | ADVENTURE IN SOUTH AFRICA 23 | FALL/WINTER EDITION

Our first pit stop was Thesen Island, in Knysna, one of South Africa's most picturesque and popular coastal towns. Located in one of the richest ecological estuaries in South Africa and is famous for its natural vistas, oyster festivals, and top-notch wining, dining, and shopping. We stayed at the Turbine Hotel and Spa, an old power station transformed into a modern, luxury boutique hotel. Thesen Island offers many activities, all within walking distance, which makes it accessible for any traveler.

Next, we stopped at the Knysna Elephant Park and Sanctuary. This park was the first facility in South Africa to house and care for orphaned African elephants. This sanctuary offers educational experiences with rescued elephants in their natural habitats. We booked the elephant walk and then stayed for a second encounter, where we fed and interacted with the herd. If you're not ready to leave, there's even an option to have a sleepover with the elephants! Kruger National Park, Indalu Game Reserve, and Elephant Sanctuary Plettenberg Bay also offer similar experiences along the Garden Route. Words cannot describe this remarkable experience with such gentle giants.

Last but not least, we had to experience a safari. A few notable game reserves along the Garden Route are the Gardens Route Game Lodge, Gondwana, Addo Elephant National Park, and Aquila and Invedoorn, which are closer to Cape Town. We stayed at the Botlierskop, a 4,200-hectare (10,378.43 acres) Private Game Reserve. This reserve is located between George and Mossel Bay and tucked between the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean. It offers a unique South African Safari Experience with luxury accommodations from tented lodges and manor suites to villas for all size groups. We chose this family-owned game reserve because it is home to four of the Big 5 (lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), as well as cheetahs, antelope, rare black impala, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, hippo, and more. Activities include morning and afternoon safari game drives, horseback safaris, spa treatments, restaurant options, swimming pools, and lodging right on the reserve. We chose

the all-inclusive experience to soak up as much as we could during the last few days of this dream vacation. We especially loved our wake-up calls when the herd of elephants or giraffes would graze the treetops outside our patio.

Our safari ranger, Silas, had extensive knowledge of the animals, habitat, and country. On our last night, we got to witness a new mother cheetah teach her three cubs how to hunt and stalk prey. Our experience was educational, high-end, and packed with adventure, but we left feeling a true connection and understanding of the animals and the land. No South Africa trip is complete without a safari to feel a true appreciation of the land beneath your feet.

Then, it was time to travel home. We left with a sense of pride and respect for the country that we spent the last two weeks in. South Africa has something to offer to any traveler, from adventure to relaxation. From the people, the landscape, the food, and the wildlife, we have never experienced a diverse cultural experience like this before, and are eager to return to explore what else this country has to offer.

INVIGORATING SPACES

INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2024

As we welcome the new year, the air buzzes with anticipation for the freshest trends in interior design. The first of these trends is the comeback of wall coverings. They have become the hero in small spaces, like powder rooms, by creating visual interest in unlikely areas. Whether you're drawn to metallic, neutral, or bold patterns, there's a style to suit every aesthetic.

Bold lighting is another trend making waves in the design world. Gone are the days of blending into the background. In 2024, lighting is set to make a statement. Glass and crystal chandeliers are stepping into the limelight, adding a dash of decadence and grandeur to any room they grace.

It's here! The comeback of design's long-time dominating palate of creams and tans. Greys took over as the "neutral" in most recent trends, but they can feel a bit cold and come across too modern for most traditional-styled homes. Expect to see a marriage of the two shades, as the color "Greige" (Beige/ Grey) will emerge and offer that warmer tone the prior trend so desperately needed. Neutrals aren't going anywhere, and to add some extra interest, I suggest mixing in some golds or silvers to create a luxurious and classic look. As we navigate the year, remember that good design is more than following trends. It's about creating a space that tells your story that mirrors your personality.

At Luxe, we've been setting trends with our carefully curated collections and high-quality custom designs. We relish the chance to integrate these 2024 design trends into a space, striking a balance between the bold and the beautiful. Follow us @luxepalmbeach and visit luxefurniture.net to see more interior inspiration.

APRICOT CRUSH

As the new year peeks around the corner, the trends for 2024 are emerging, and Apricot Crush has been announced as the color of the year for 2024 by WGSN and Coloro. This warm, inviting, but still vibrant color has already taken the fashion and design industry by storm but has especially made an impression in the interior design and home decor industries. From candles and pillows to rugs and blankets, Apricot Crush shines by playing well with neutrals but bringing a pop of color without being overwhelming.

Apricot Crush can work in any room, bathroom, bedroom, living room, and even the kitchen; the possibilities are endless! Add a small amount of the hue with a vase or candle, or change the look of a whole room with a rug. We have a major crush on these items pictured above: Divyae Handmade Triple Medallion Wool Area Rug, Ombre Square Pillow Cover & Insert By Kevin O'Brien Studio, Tepi 70"x55" Blush Throw Blanket by Crate and Barrel, and Fluted Terracotta Golden Hour Jar Candle Gold by Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia.

REVITALIZE YOUR SKIN: Explore

How Laser Treatments

Combat The Signs Of Aging

Broad Band Light (BBL)

The Broad Band Light treatment can be performed on all body areas, including the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands. BBL uses a broad spectrum of light that can be filtered in several ways to treat different conditions. The device applies light flashes to the skin, which penetrates to damage the pigment, tissue, or blood vessels. Your body will work to repair the damage, reducing the appearance of discoloration or wrinkles.

Best for: sun and age spots, redness, rosacea, wrinkles, and eliminating fine vessels.

Morpheus 8

Morpheus 8 utilizes gold microneedles to penetrate the skin and radiofrequency waves to emit heat that reaches deeper skin layers and melts fat. This process stimulates collagen production, causing underlying fat and skin to tighten. Some benefits of the laser include tighter skin, reducing under-eye bags, minimizing crow’s feet around eyes and lip lines, reducing pores, and improving skin texture with a reduction of wrinkles, acne scars, and fine lines.

Best for: fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, skin tightening, and pore reduction.

29 | FALL/WINTER EDITION

HALO

The first hybrid fractional laser, HALO, combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to address multiple levels of skin concerns on all skin types. These wavelengths provide both short-term and long-term benefits. By creating small thermal injuries in the skin, new, healthy skin is produced.

Best for: fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, dark spots, scar tissue, pigmented lesions, and enlarged pores.

Thermage

Thermage uses radiofrequency technology to heat the deep, collagen-rich layers of the skin while the tip of the laser vibrates and cools the surface to help aid in comfort. The new collagen growth tightens the skin over time. This laser provides smoother, tighter skin after just one treatment, with continued improvement for up to six months treating wrinkles and loose skin on the face, around the eyes, and on the body.

Best for: wrinkles, loose skin, and skin tightening.

Moxi

Moxi is a non-ablative 1927nm wavelength that targets water within cells to work with the body’s natural healing processes for a gentle treatment with little-to-no downtime. Moxi comfortably delivers non-ablative laser energy to correct the initial signs of sun damage and aging—no matter the season or skin type—for a glowing and clear complexion.

Best for: pigmentation, sun damage, uneven skin tone, textured skin, and signs of aging.

C02 Laser Resurfacing

The Cynosure Smartskin CO2 laser treatment evens skin tone and tex ture, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, reduces acne scars, age spots, and much more. With Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing, the laser removes only a part of your skin's surface. Faster healing time and fewer complications result from leaving part of the skin undamaged to rejuvenate the skin's surface.

Best for: fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, skin tone and texture.

Fraxel Repair

Fraxel Repair works at a cellular level in the skin to produce natural, long-lasting benefits. The device creates microchannels in the dermal layers at a prescribed depth to address the patient’s specific concerns and goals. Zoey Alyssa is a budding artist from Fort Pierce, Florida, looking to spread the luxury of art within the community around her. Working predominantly in acrylics, Zoey Alyssa is a muralist and live event painter who enjoys creating art inspired by the surrounding biodiversity Florida has to offer. In 2017, her art career started at a local pottery & paint studio, where she found herself teaching an array of people the power of a paintbrush and the raw beauty of clay. As a self-taught painter and ceramist, painting as far back as she can remember, Zoey Alyssa was enthralled to learn she comes from generations of creative minds. Her Great Grandfather, Herbert Neuburger, was a prestigious watercolorist who immigrated from Germany to Florida before the war. Herbert, in his lifetime, befriended Beanie Backus (an International Landscape Artist who is said to have influenced the Florida Highwaymen of the area) and framed a lot of Backus’ preeminent work. Herbert’s son still creates as a copper artist in Jensen Beach, Florida, and remembers time spent with Beanie, their family friend, in the historic Fort Pierce Studio.

Now residing in Vero Beach and working out of her home studio, Zoey Alyssa is a full-time artist creating residential and commercial murals, live event paintings, and custom commissions. She still teaches the fundamentals of clay at Treasure Coast Pottery. Her mural work can be seen as a public installation located in the Peacock Arts District in her hometown of Fort Pierce, Florida. By definition, as an artist, your job is to demonstrate the human creativity through skill and technique. Art for decades has been deemed a luxury, yet studies show over time that in order for communities, cities, and economies to thrive, art must be present. Art insists an abundance exists, and this idea often relates art to luxury and not something that is necessary. This abundance, when present, leads to stronger generations and healthier, confident contributing members to society. In other words, if we have the time to create and imagine outside of our world, we are therefore succeeding and conquering inside of it. This very idea is what manifested Tigress Mural & Design. Zoey Alyssa founded Tigress Mural & Design in 2022, marked as the year of the tiger. Tigress Mural & Design is an experience—a creative experience offered to those who are not so comfortable in the execution of human creative skills. Zoey Alyssa works with you in manifesting your world into the one you wish to see and involve yourself in.

Meet the CEO That Made Her Passion for Skincare a Global Empire

If you have enjoyed a spa day or visited a dermatologist’s office, chances are very likely that you’ve seen this skincare line on the shelves. What started off as a homemade solution in her kitchen to treat the skin condition, rosacea that she had been struggling with for many years to a global brand that includes over 100 skincare products. With her products being sold in over 30,000 medical spa’s and physician’s offices throughout the US and in over 70 countries globally, Image Skincare is a brand favorite of many throughout the world.

CDM: It’s an honor to have such a beauty ambassador and globally recognized brand located right here in Palm Beach County! What brought you to the area?

JR: We moved our company from Houston to Palm Beach in 2007. We love the ocean, the lifestyle, and the business friendly aspect of Florida. My husband is from Germany and was an exchange student in Jupiter for one year, and we both fell in love with the area. It was a no brainer for us to move to the area.

CDM: How did you get started in the skincare industry?

JR: I grew up in a small farming community in rural Nebraska and graduated with a business degree from the University of Nebraska. My career goal was to become a lawyer, although I always had an entrepreneurial spirit. So I pivoted from law school, and began working for a Fortune 100 Company in sales and marketing. I learned from the ground up, what the large corporate world was all about. This

was an amazing experience of living in many cities, working my way up the ranks in the corporate hierarchy but I was very unhappy in this environment. So, I decided to go back to school to become an esthetician. My first job out of esthetic school was in a plastic surgeons office performing clinical skin treatments. These years of experience provided me with the foundation to understand skin and how professional companies navigate to scale their company.

CDM: When did you discover your passion for skincare?

JR: At a very early age. Even on the farm in Nebraska, my mother raised me to be diligent about my skin, and my beauty routine. She wore red lipstick and was coiffed every day. I asked her one day, why she spent so much time on her beauty routine on a farm and her reply was, “you never know who you might meet- so you better have your best face on every day.”

Coastal Drive Magazine talks with Image Skincare Founder, Janna Ronert about her passion for skincare, running a global enterprise and her passion for supporting other women in business.

CDM: What made you decide to create your own skincare line?

JR: It was very grass roots and passion driven. I had the experience of a father who was a serial entrepreneur as a farmer, business man, and innovator. My business education allowed me to understand the fundamentals of economics and finance and the years of work in the corporate world showed me more of how a company thrives with a culture that is built on winning and passion.

CDM: How many countries is Image Skincare sold in today?

JR: We are in 70 countries globally. In fact, in Ireland, we are the #1 Professional skin care in the country, with an interesting statistic that Image is in the bathroom for every 300 persons in Ireland. My great grandmother was from Ireland, maybe a coincidence.

CDM: How many spas carry Image Skincare products?

JR: We are currently in 30,000 spas, medical spas, and physician’s offices in the USA.

CDM: Are all products produced in the US?

JR: We source the best, clinically proven, cleanest ingredients from all over the world. We have the top chemists and laboratories in the US that produce our products. We have a laboratory in Seoul, Korea that produces the best sheet mask in the world incorporating a special volcanic mineral water from the island of JeJu in South Korea. My husband and I visited this island and we were inspired to produce this product.

CDM: What makes Image unique and different from other skincare lines?

JR: Image is a clinical clean line inspired by the idea of combining clinically proven ingredients with botanicals to combine science and nature. This amazing combination has been a winning strategy of products that reverses the signs of aging and protects and nourishes the skin from future damage. They smell great, feel great, and your skin glows.

CDM: Do you have any personal product favorites?

JR: That’s like asking a mother which child is her favorite. We have over 100 retail products that treat all skin conditions from aging, acne, rosacea, and pigmentation. But I would have to say that my favorite collection is my first collection that I produced which is the Vital C collection. After 20 years, this is still the #1 collection globally.

39 | FALL/WINTER EDITION

CDM: What is Image Skincare currently doing as a company to promote sustainability?

JR: That’s a great question. 20 years ago, the word sustainability was not mentioned in our industry, but I knew that our environment should be treated so tenderly. We use as much glass as we can that can be easily recycled. Our newest collection launch is packaged with plastic generated from 85% Sugar Cane bio resin packaging and can be easily recycled, and not just sit to rot in a garbage dump for hundreds of years. When plastic degrades it emits greenhouse gases in our environment. Our outer packaging and boxes are all made out of recycled paper. We must think very deeply about our planet for the future. That also includes what and how ingredients are sourced that are environmentally friendly. We have recently partnered with a LEED-certified, carbon-neutral facility with water filtered using solar power.

CDM: What is your newest line in your collection and how does it differentiate from your other products?

JR: Our newest collection is Biome+, your first introduction to professional skin care to the Gen Z consumer. It is a harmonious collection formulated to respect and reinforce the skin barrier. It is formulated with natural-origin ingredients like clinical adaptogens and sugarcane-derived squalane, BIOME+ nurtures, comforts and brightens skin without disrupting its natural state. It is a terrific starting point for teenagers, and skin that needs hydration, nutrition, and a lit from within skin.

CDM: As a licensed esthetician with extensive experience in the skincare industry, what advice do you have for young individuals for starting a skincare regime?

JR: Very simple. 3 steps every day. Cleanse, Hydrate, and Protect. It’s not enough to have SPF in your foundation. Plus, go the extra mile and find a licensed esthetician to treat and recommend the best program for you. Just because you see it on Tik Tok, does not mean this is the right program for your skin type.

CDM: Do you have any business or personal mantras that you live by that has contributed to your success in business?

JR: My Dad always taught me that; “The lazy are never lucky.” There are no overnight successes in this business. It takes many years of dedication, passion, and constantly learning from your mistakes to be #1.

CDM: You are a wife, mom and dog mom; how do you manage to juggle and balance running a global company and home life?

JR: Balance is a funny word. It means so many different things to different people. For me, it’s more about what my priorities are. Family comes first, second is my health - taking care of my skin, body, and mind, and third is business. I schedule my time based upon my priorities. This makes it much easier to say yes, or NO.

CDM: What organizations and/or non-profit organization(s) are you involved in and what role do you have in the organization(s)?

JR: In the past years, I have become more involved in many organizations to expand my knowledge, circle of friends, and give back my knowledge and experience to women. C200 is an amazing organization of the top 200 female CEO's in America. I have learned so much from these amazing, trailblazing women that run billion-dollar companies. What I have learned is that we ALL have the same issues at

COASTAL DRIVE | 40

whatever level you are in business - problem solving, people problems, and managing crisis and growth. I’m involved in a mentor organization called EWA. Having and being a mentor is very rewarding. It’s been a secret sauce to my success. I also founded an organization called RISE UP. Which is designed for woman in C Level management to RISE UP to higher levels in their careers. Locally I am on the board of Sun Coast Community High School. I was a product of a public school, and I am proud to give back on this board to grow this amazing high school in my community.

CDM: Do you have any personal passions or hobbies?

JR: I love to travel. There is a famous quote that says, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” I really believe that traveling changes your life, your perspective, and teaches you to enjoy experiences over just things. My goal is to have visited 100 countries in the next 2 years. I’m at 68, so I better hurry up. I also love wine. My dream was to own a winery and work with the land like

growing up on our farm in Nebraska. My husband and I purchased a winery in Italy, Tenuta San Vincenti last year. It is a dream come true! This might sound weird, but I have a hobby of collecting Starbucks mugs wherever I go in the world. I have now over 200 mugs from cities around the world and counting. Of course, my favorite mug is Nebraska!

CDM: What advice can you give to future entrepreneurs?

JR: Find your passion, and just do it. Don’t wait until it’s the perfect timing, because there is no perfect timing. Become a subject matter expert in your chosen field. That doesn’t necessarily mean education, but experience and knowledge. You must be credible in your field and passionate about your business idea to start your business. Do you know how many people called me crazy for starting a professional skin care business in my late 30’s? Think Big - If people aren’t’ calling you crazy you aren’t thinking big enough. Last piece of advice, Have FUN. Life is too short not to have fun fulfilling your dream!!

"Find your passion, and just do it. Don’t wait until it’s the perfect timing because there is no perfect timing. "

The Jupiter Grill

149 Soundings Ave, Jupiter, FL 33477

Located in Harbourside Place, a fashionable waterfront destination in downtown Jupiter full of shopping, dining, and luxury hotel accommodations, you will find Jupiter Grill. You could not ask for a better location! Directly across from the incredible waterfront amphitheater, Jupiter Grill has an inviting atmosphere with a large indoor/outdoor bar and upscale feel.

They specialize in prime steak & seafood, with elevated cocktails, premium wines, and top-notch service. Their menu also features an impressive raw bar and several signature sides that all sounded so good it was hard to pick just one.

49 | FALL/WINTER EDITION

The restaurant has a talented team, including Executive Chef Paul Niedermann, who was the winner of Hell’s Kitchen season 9 in 2012! Our waiter was very friendly and helpful when deciding what to order from their menu. We tried the two dishes, the first being the Steak Frites which is prime hanger steak served with everything-spiced fries and served with a side of black garlic aioli. The second dish we tried was the Mint Pesto Crusted Australian Lamb Rack. This dish was served with a side of charred broccolini that was topped with a tomato jam and preserved lemon. We loved both dishes, they were perfectly cooked and tasted great, and the crust on the lamb was unique and delicious. I will definitely be back soon to try some of their appetizers and raw bar items!

Born and raised in Martin County, I’ve always loved where I live, but it wasn’t until I returned home from college that I began to appreciate all of the fantastic food options in and around Stuart. After college, I quickly obtained my real estate license and found myself going out for lunch and dinner with clients quite often. Many of these individuals were from out of town, so they would ask me to choose a location. This allowed me to show off Stuart’s many family-owned and operated restaurants serving high-quality, delicious food. To see more, follow my Instagram @stuartfoodie as I continue to discover new places to eat and drink while sharing my favorites along the way!

Michaels on 7th

2217 7th Ave, Vero Beach, FL 32960

Michaels on 7th is located in the heart of Vero Beach, off 21st Street and 7th Avenue, and is known for their fresh local ingredients for a true farm-to-table experience. The ambiance is casual, pleasant, and well-lit with natural sunlight, and there is a fair amount of seating inside, with a few tables outside as well. The staff is very friendly, and the service is excellent. Michaels also has a variety of fresh daily specials consisting of one or two soups, a salad, and a main course. I recently learned about Michaels when I started going up to Vero one day a week for work. A co-worker took me there for lunch on one of my first days up, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

We started out with the “Herb French Fries with Parmesan Snow,” which is big enough to split. These fries were fantastic. They were hot, perfectly seasoned with salt, and crispy like a good fry should be. For our main course, we each got the “Our Reuben” made with low and slow-braised corn beef, thick-cut marble-rye, gruyere cheese, 1000 island, and sauerkraut. If I see a Reuben on a menu, I typically tend to try it if I feel like it’ll be a good one, and this is a good one, trust me. Their sandwiches are either served with fresh local greens or chips. Since I already had fries, I went with the local greens, and I get them every time now. They are very fresh, moderately dressed (enough without being too much), and tastier than you’d think for just being a bed of greens. Now that Michaels has become my essential “go-to” lunch spot in Vero, I’ve had a chance to try some more items on their menu and have yet to be disappointed.

Crispy Chicken Cobb Salad "Our Reuben" Sandwich

One of my favorite appetizers is the truffle cream of mushroom soup, which is one of their lunch specials. If it were a regular menu item, it would be tough not to order it every day. It's delicious and usually served with one or two slices of toasted ciabatta. Another one of my favorites is the "Crispy Chicken Cobb" salad. I don't typically order a salad for lunch, but I decided to try the Cobb one day, and now I order it a majority of the time. It's put together with Pepper Trail Farms lettuce, avocado, bleu cheese crumbles, tomato, bacon, a hard-cooked egg, perfectly fried chicken tenders, and bleu cheese dressing on the side. Right now, this is probably my favorite salad anywhere. It's fresh and tasty, with textures that balance each other out and filling.

The menu isn't huge, but there is something on it for everyone, and I have yet to have a bad meal or experience. A few other items that I recommend are the "BLT & A" and the "Adult Grilled Cheese." Make sure you listen to their specials as well because there are usually 2-3 options. If you haven't visited Michael's on the 7th, I highly recommend them for lunch. I have not had the pleasure to try them for dinner, but I've heard great things. Either way, Michael's is worth a stop.

I was born and raised in Stuart and love seeing our dining scene grow! I am an attorney by day and foodie by night, and I love to show off the Treasure Coast's cuisine to anyone visiting. I started Jensen Foodie to showcase our area's excellent and unique dining options and share my passion for food and cooking. I love to travel as much as possible, and like any good foodie, I go where the best food is!

A South Florida native, I was born in Miami and raised in Palm Beach. I attended the University of Florida before moving to Charlotte, NC for a few years. During this time the county boomed with new developments popping up. When I returned, I began @EatPalmBeach as a way to rediscover my hometown while supporting local businesses. People gather around food and beverage, so the dining scene was the perfect introduction to new communities, restaurants, and talent. The culinary offerings have exploded over the past decade, but here are a few of my “must sees” when crossing the county line.

GET FIT WITH PLANTED POSH

Certified as a Holistic Nutrition Coach, Personal Trainer, and Detox Therapist, Alexandria Lako, aka "Planted Posh," is the go-to girl for your fitness and nutrition needs. We spoke with her about her health and fitness journey, plus she gave us insight into her nutrition and workout routine that keeps her happy, healthy, and fit.

With an extensive health and fitness resume, Alexandria helps guide clients across the world on a journey of healthy living with holistic principles that cover mind and body. As a former Division 1 Runner from Ohio State University, fitness has always been a part of her life. After graduating, she decided to continue her education and went on to complete law school in 2019. It was during her last semester that she started her health and fitness journey and decided to undergo a personal transformation.

For years, she struggled with self-esteem issues due to over ten years of gut health concerns, stomach bloating, and severe cystic acne. “Sometimes I didn’t even want to go outside because I didn’t feel comfortable in my body.” So, I took a leap of faith and tried a holistic approach to my health that not only completely cleared my cystic acne, but improved my gut, helped me lose the education weight, and, best of all, gave me confidence that I never knew I had.”

Her journey continued through the years. “In the early parts of 2020, when I had just started my legal career, a hurdle crossed my path. I was let go from my job as the pandemic began to sweep un-

certainty across the world. It was my faith that kept me going because days after losing my job, I met my now husband, Charles, who opened my eyes to helping others achieve their health goals, just like how I did for myself. This life-altering change created a whole new passion-driven career that has opened so many doors. Now, I help take clients through their own transformations, travel when I want, and share my passions in health and fitness; while doing most of my work from my computer. There’s no better feeling than having the freedom to live my life the way I choose and have the opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives.”

Alexandria follows an 80-20 lifestyle, meaning 80% of the food she eats on average is alkaline vegan; while the other 20% of her diet is free to enjoy fun foods or animal-derived products. This balanced lifestyle is what she teaches her clients and has had great success with. Alexandria explains, “I’ve found switching clients to this type of eating style, from a traditional American diet, drastically improves weight management, skin conditions, gut health, and energy levels.” So, what does a typical day of eating look like? Keep reading for a look into Alexandria’s daily nutrition plans, plus a workout hack you will want to incorporate into your routine.

Lunch:  hearty grain with either a plant protein like tempeh or lentils or a fish like shrimp or salmon. Around 2 pm most days is when I get that dragging feeling where I could use a nap break! So instead of coffee, I have an Energy Fizz.

Snack: I’m usually finishing up my workout, and I love following up my exercise with a post-workout shake. My favorite shake for keeping me full is the Essential Meal in Va nilla.

Dinner: Dinner is a special time in our family because that’s usually the time my husband, Charles, comes home from work, and we eat together. Therefore, many of our evenings are spent eating out. Yes! I love eating just like the rest of you! If I am eating out, I try and get a Buckwheat vegetable soup or sushi rolls in brown rice. For an at-home dinner, I will make a hearty lentil curry, stew, or shrimp on gluten-free pasta.

Post-Dinner Tea: Our digestion slows as we get closer to sleep, so the evenings are best for zero-calorie foods to aid digestion; so, I will usually have a cup of bedtime tea. My favorites are Cleantox, CCF, and Gut Cleansing Chai.

While following a proper nutrition plan is a key essential part of a healthy lifestyle, exercising is another key component to achieving your health and fitness goals. Alexandria incorporates what she calls "exercise snacks" into her workout routine. She says, “You don’t have to be in the gym for hours on end to see results... it’s a new concept that means breaking up an hour workout into bite-size pieces you do throughout the day, in your spare time.” This type of routine hits everything from cardio, legs, arms, and abs and doesn’t require you to hit the gym every day. But if you still want to get to the gym and use equipment, you can check out her new health and fitness workout app. With her app, you can follow along with the recorded and live workouts, complete challenges, and get nutrition guidance and support.

Exercise Snack Example:

Upon Waking: 15 push-ups (modified or unmodified), 15 squats, 20 walking lunges, and 30 jumping jacks, and repeat this 2-3 times before you hit the shower.

Mid-Morning: walk up and down the stairs for 3-8 minutes.

Lunchtime: 15-minute walk around the office building or outside.

Mid-Afternoon: 50 calf raises; 30 squats; 20 incline push-ups on the counter or table, and repeat this 2-3 times.

At night: 15 minute walk and abs (30 crunches, 15 leg raises, 40 bicycle crunches, and 30-sec plank, repeat 2-3 times.)

FRIENDSGIVING FEAST

Recipes by: Chef Corey Belle

The holiday trend of Friendsgiving has grown multitudes over the years, especially when traveling to see family is not always in the cards. Friendsgiving is a chance to step away from the traditional holiday sides and get adventurous with flavors that are sure to be crowd-pleasers, like the iconic sweet potato with marshmallow. Private Chef Corey Belle shows us two recipes to change up your Friendsgiving spread this season. She believes holiday food should be fun and not stuffy, and her intentional but never pretentious cooking style will make these recipes instant favorites for years to come.

Roasted Corn & Smashed Brussels Sprouts

A spin on the traditional brussels sprouts. Caramelized vegetables accented with savory bacon and fresh thyme sprigs over the top. Serves 4-6 people.

Ingredients:

2lbs. brussels sprouts trimmed, cleaned, and kept whole

3 corn cobs or 2 cups of frozen corn

4-5 strips of bacon

Fresh thyme to taste

Salt and pepper

Olive oil

Step 1: Preheat convection oven to 400°F.

Step 2: Lightly drizzle the brussels sprouts with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Spread on a half-sheet pan and roast for 20 minutes or until the desired color is achieved. Allow them to cool, place them between parchment paper, and gently smash them with a large pan or mallet to flatten/smash.

Step 3 : Sauté bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until crisp. Add corn to pan and sauté until cooked through and a little crispy. Remove and set aside.

Step 4: Place smashed brussels sprouts on a sheet tray and broil for 3-5 minutes until crispy. Transfer to a serving dish, top with corn, bacon, and finish with the fresh thyme—season with salt and pepper.

Truffled Green Beans

Decadent but fresh. Perfectly cooked green beans topped with shaved parmesan snow, champagne vinaigrette, and crunchy brioche croutons. Serves 4-6.

Ingredients:

2lbs. green beans, whole with ends snipped off 1/4 cup champagne vinegar

1 tsp. dijon mustard

1/2 C. olive oil plus a few tablespoons for croutons

1 tsp. minced shallots

1 tsp. black truffle oil or truffle salt

1/4 tsp. salt

A few grinds of fresh black pepper

1 cup grated or shaved parmesan cheese

2 cup brioche or baguette, cubed

Step 1: Blanch or steam green beans until the desired doneness; I cook mine for three minutes to maintain crunch and bright green color. Drain and put into an ice bath. Remove once chilled and place in a strainer to remove any ice water.

Step 2: In a large bowl, mix shallot, mustard, and vinegar, and slowly add olive oil. Thoroughly toss green beans with vinaigrette.

Step 3: In a large sauté pan, add bread and a good drizzle of olive oil or butter and toast on med-high heat for 5 minutes, until golden crispy. Set aside.

Step 4: Plate chilled green beans and finely grate the parmesan over top using a micro plane to create the parmesan snow. Finish beans with croutons and truffle oil/salt. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

GIVING BACK THIS SEASON

As the holiday time approaches, we are reminded of everything we have to be thankful for. It is the perfect time to reflect and see how we can all give back to our community. Supporting local charities allows us to directly impact the lives of our fellow community members and fosters a sense of unity that continues long after the holiday season is gone. So, as we embark on this Thanksgiving and Holiday season, here are a few local organizations you can consider donating to or volunteering at to give back to your community.

Treasure Coast Food Bank

Treasure Coast Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization on Florida’s Treasure Coast and the only Food Bank in our four-county region – Indian River, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties. They work tirelessly to help families and individuals in need by providing them with nutritious food, hope, and dignity. They will host the 9th Annual Pack the House Event on October 20, 2023, and October 21, 2023. Volunteers will be helping to build holiday meal boxes for children, families, and seniors who are facing hunger. Holiday meal boxes come with all the holiday favorites like mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, vegetables, and more! Learn more and register on Stophunger.org.

Turkey Trot at Tradition

The Turkey Trot at Tradition is a 5K race run/walk charity that benefits New Horizons of the Treasure Coast & Okeechobee and Treasure Coast Food Bank. The race is a family-friendly race where you can give back while gathering with the community while getting exercise. In the first four years, they raised over $70,000 for local charities. To learn more about the race and how to register, visit Traditionturkeytrot.com.

Palm Beach County Food Bank

Nails

As the holiday season approaches, it's time to adorn ourselves in the festive spirit. Here are two ways you can celebrate the season through your next manicure.

CLASSIC HOLIDAY COLORS

A timeless combination of red, green, silver, and gold are synonymous with the holiday season. Incorporating these hues into your nail art can instantly create a fun and festive look. Opt for a dark red or green shade as a base color and add shimmering gold accents. Or use a neutral base with shimmery green or red to create delicate designs like gift bows, snowflakes, or a festive french tip.

SPARKLE AND SHINE

Reminiscent of holiday tinsel or New Year's Eve sparklers, this trend will work all season long. Whether you love silver or gold, you can incorporate this nail trend into your seasonal manicure. Go for a classic full glitter nail, or change it up with a sparkly design or accent nail. If glitter isn't your preference, you can still embrace this trend with eye-catching chrome polish or rhinestones.
