TOMOKA FORECAST
May is an exciting month in the river and the basin. Along with warmer water the bait fish move in.

Generally, the mullet and croakers are moving around the oyster beds and in the canals up river. Redfish are positioning around the canal mouths waiting for the mullet to come out during the outgoing tide, snook are also competing for the same bait. Early in the morning the mullet are visible in the basin swimming along the banks and predators such as snook, reds, jacks and tarpon are looking for an easy meal. That time being just before sun up I like to use artificial covering as much territory as I can using surface lures such as Yozuri’s Crystal Minnow and Zman’s hot Darterz.
It is no secret that the east coast of Florida has been hard hit with the loss of sea grass. As a result, Iwill be fishing the oyster beds at high tide and when the tide is low, I have good success floating a finger mullet down the middle of the river with a popping cork. Tight lines!
