OffShORE FORECAST

The dog days of summer are in full effect and the ocean is giving us plenty of calm days to get out offshore. But you don’t have to go to far as the king fish bite has been extremely good. With big Menhaden bait pods up and down the beach, we have the best bait we can ask for. A heavy 10 - 12ft cast net is crucial to have during this time of year. With one cast you can have as much bait as you want to last the entire day.

During the summer don’t be too quick to run to far offshore. A lot of these big kings can be found right off the beach in 4060 ft of water, just off the edge of the bait pods. Also don’t be afraid to target the shrimp boats just off the beaches as kings and many other fish like to follow these commercial shrimp boats. A very effective way to catch these kings is simply bump trolling these Menhaden on a #4 or #5 stinger rig. Most local tackle shops carry these rigs or you can very easily make them yourself.
