SAILFISH ON THE MOVE

ailfish are on the move off the coast of southeast Florida. It happens every year as the first cold fronts make their way south and bring cooler temperatures and northerly winds. Highly migratory in nature, these acrobatic pelagics can be caught here year round, but the highest concentrations occur from November through April. Techniques for targeting sailfish vary depending on location. In Stuart, trolling dead ballyhoo with dredges in the spread is the most popular method. Off Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, kite fishing with live bait on the drift is the go-to technique. In the Florida Keys,

it could be a combination of both or it could be sight fishing with a few live pitch baits ready to throw at a hungry sailfish. Regardless of location, wind and sea conditions change constantly and play a huge role in determining the best fishing technique on any given day. The best sailfish bite happens during tailing conditions. Typically, tailing conditions occur right after a cold front passes, while the western edge of the Gulf Stream is in close proximity to the coast. When the strong north current of the Gulf Stream clashes with strong winds from the opposite direction, it fires sailfish up into a feeding frenzy. In tailing conditions, it is not uncommon for the top sailfish boats in the fleet to catch and release 20 or more sailfish in a day. Not everyone can afford the expensive electric reels and other gear required for kite or dredge fishing, but anyone who owns a boat with outriggers can slow troll or bump troll baits to get tight with arguably the most majestic gamefish in the ocean. You will need four 20- to 30-pound conventional outfits. Since sailfish are capable of swimming at high speeds, you want reels with at least a 5:1 gear ratio and high line capacity. Connect the main line to 6 to 8 feet of 40-pound fluorocarbon leader with a small barrel swivel. Tie an inline circle hook to the business end. Use a 7/0 hook for larger baits such as blue runners or goggle eyes. For smaller baits like pilchards or cigar minnows, use a 5/0 hook. Deploy the two outrigger baits first with one long and one short. Then send out your flat lines from the corners with one short and one long. Once your spread is out, position your boat down-sea and keep it moving forward slowly by putting the boat in and out of gear. Keep an eye on your spread, as sailfish will sometimes show up out of nowhere. Sailfish tend to swim in packs, so it’s a good idea to keep a 20-pound spinning outfit ready to go with a live pitch bait. Once you get your fish to the boat, grab it by the bill and remove the hook. Hold your sailfish alongside the boat while in gear to revive it before release. Gene Dyer is editor and co-publisher of Coastal Angler Magazine/Fort Lauderdale.

don’t throw much anymore. I don’t throw them except for around the spawn, but it sure does work that time of year! JD: What was your most productive technique this year? Lester: A wacky rig, especially early in the season. It’s always huge for me during and around the spawn. It just gets bites and catches big fish, too. I put fish in the boat using the Mustad Titan X Wacky Neko hook with an X Zone Lures True Center Stick. I fish it on the MHX NEPS 81MXF. That rod was my MVP this season too.

BRANDON LESTER

JD: Speaking of MHX rods, you’re well-known for building your own custom rods on tour. What rods will you build this off-season? Lester: Mud Hole is always making new blanks available, so I plan on building nearly a whole new set this winter. You can build rods efficiently once you do it a few times, and it really doesn’t take much time. For anglers out there looking to have a full complement of rods that are the same brand but won’t break the bank, I highly suggest building MHX rods. They have a starter kit (great Christmas gift) on their website www. MudHole.com, and all the other bass rods a man would need. They have all the kits broken down by style, and if anyone has any questions they can ask me on social media. Instagram is @ brandonlesterfishing and Facebook is @proanglerbrandonlester.

By JD Blackburn JD: How did your Bassmaster Elite Series season go this year? Lester: I finished in sixth place in the Toyota Angler of the Year point standings and also finished sixth in the 2019 Bassmaster Classic. Those were both career-best marks. JD: What one new piece of equipment did you adopt this year that really helped you? Lester: The new C-Map card from Lowrance Electronics. Case in point: on Lake Guntersville this year, I fished structure I had no idea was in existence on that lake. The detail the card has on it is just amazing.

For more Lester visit,

JD: What was the biggest fish you caught this season? Lester: The biggest weighed 7-11, and it came from the St. Johns River in Florida. I used an 8-inch lizard, which is a bait people

T

he world’s largest and longest-running watersports and beach/ resort lifestyle show is a best-kept secret for retailers of fishing apparel and accessories. Surf Expo launched its Bluewater category in January 2018 with some of the hottest brands in fishing. Since then, angling has become an integral part of the twice-annual show, which returns to Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center Jan. 8-10. Savvy buyers will find that today’s Surf Expo is a lot more than surf. Featuring internationally influential brands from all facets of watersports, Surf Expo is the show that drives water-lifestyle trends each season. It is geared toward buyers seeking to stock their shelves, which makes it a unique opportunity for retailers to get ahead of the market’s next big thing. Bluewater is where buyers can find all the freshwater and saltwater fishing and marine lifestyle apparel and accessory brands grouped together in one easy-to-shop area of the show floor. Since Bluewater’s inception, more and more marinas, tackle shops and outfitters have discovered that Surf Expo is a very convenient way to shop all their mainstay apparel and accessory brands and then easily browse other products they need such as sunscreens, sunglasses, coolers, T-shirts and PFDs. Tackle dealers who don’t take advantage of the crossover between fishing and the overall watersports lifestyle are missing out on a powerful revenue stream. Surf Expo is the one show where you can see and touch it all… and attendance is free for qualified retailers. “We’ve been attending Surf Expo for many years,” said Aledia Tush, owner of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters, a fishing and boating landmark in Sarasota since 1959. “We’re always looking for new products, T-shirts, sportswear, suntan products, towels, sandals, shoes and sunglasses. Being a Florida retailer, Surf Expo is a show not to be missed!” Brands exhibiting in the Bluewater category include: HUK, AFTCO, 5Fin, Marsh Wear, Fish Hippie, Hooked Soul Fishing Co., Heybo

Outdoors, Salt Life, Big Ocean Sport, Florida Cracker Trading Co., REEL Happy, Deep Blue Gear, Salty Crew, MANG Gear, Sunday Afternoon, Anglur, Huntworth, Skinny Water Culture, Tormenter Ocean, Costa, Bimini Bay and more. “We’ve been coming to Surf Expo since the beginning, and we were one of the first to be in the Bluewater section—where we’ve found a new home,” said Bill Shedd, president of AFTCO and 5Fin. “There’s a whole lifestyle that’s being developed around saltwater, offshore and big game fishing that’s bled off into inshore fishing and more of an outdoor activity in the broader outdoor world. AFTCO and 5Fin fit into that. Bluewater at Surf Expo is a perfect section to corral up a growing number of brands like AFTCO, 5FIN and Marshwear. The buyers don’t have to walk around looking; we’re in one area.” Surf Expo is a place where it’s easy to get business done. It is a pure, trade-only event, which eliminates the hubbub of open-to-the-public trade shows. It’s also a fun place to be, with a laid-back atmosphere that appeals to those in the watersports industry. The Bluewater Lounge has become a popular hangout for the fishing crowd. Hosted by Hell’s Bay Boatworks, it features happy hours daily and talks with special guests from Captains for Clean Water. Preserving the waters we love has always been an important part of Surf Expo. It is a platform for the watersports industry as a whole to promote clean water, water access, conservation and sustainability. “When people come to the Surf Expo for the first time, they notice the relaxed, cool atmosphere. It’s that lifestyle we all buy into, and there are a lot of down-to-earth beautiful people at a surf show,” said Surf Expo buyer relations manager Steven Fisher. “It’s just a great place to be if you’re in the watersports industry. If you’ve got a shop, come check it out for yourself.” For more information or to register now, buyers should visit www. surfexpo.com.

feet; the fish are swimming along the trough looking for baitfish. When there’s bait around the trough (the deep channel where the breakers hit the beach), there are fish. Look for birds. When there are birds diving around the trough, the fish are near. There are several techniques I use to catch fish.

S

urf ’s up! Grab your spincaster and head for the beach. I just moved to Hutchinson Island, one of the barrier islands on Florida’s Treasure Coast, and I’ve had a lot of fun fishing the surf early in the morning and late in the evening. I’ve averaged several snook per trip, with a few jacks, plus bluefish and mackerel. My best hour so far was four snook, a dozen jack, two ladyfish, two bluefish and a mackerel. Now that’s an action packed 60 minutes, and the best thing is you don’t have to cast more than 30

W

TACKLE: I use a spincasting reel with 10-pound braided line and a clear 20-pound fluro or mono leader. Tie 2 feet of leader onto the braid with a double uni knot, and then tie your lure on with a loop knot so it moves more freely. I use a 3/8- or ½-ounce jig with a D.O.A. paddletail either in pearl white or silver sparkle. I like the lighter weight, but it’s harder to cast. Silver spoons and topwaters are my secondary lures. THE SURF: you want some wave action, and rough surf is better than calm, but if it’s too rough the jig doesn’t stay in the strike zone long enough. Always fish into or toward the wind so you keep in contact with the lure. TECHNIQUE: I wear shorts and stand in the shallow wash. You don’t have to get wet. After a wave breaks, fish the backside between waves, jigging gently and keeping some tension on the line. When a wave overtakes the lure, keep in touch with it and let it tumble until the wave crashes on the beach. Then fish the backwash on the beach side of the trough. If you fish perpendicular to the trough, the lure is only in the trough for a few seconds. If you cast parallel to the beach, the lure stays in the trough longer and you have better action. Remember, the fish are feeding in 6 inches of water sometimes and can even strike in the backwash. Keep tension on the fish when you get one on, and lower your rod tip so Spanish, snook and bluefish won’t jump as much. When a fish rides the wave into the shore, you’ll need to reel fast to keep tension or they will flip off. Where to Fish: Any beach access is good, but look for birds and activity. No birds, consider moving to another beach access. I like the St. Lucie beaches in the Herman’s Bay area and the beaches near the inlets. Richard Matteson is staff writer for the Stuart Rod and Reel Club. For information, call 336-414-3440.

s the holidays approach and temperatures drop, many will feel the need to scratch that fishing itch. There is no better place to catch your next trophy this winter than down in sunny south Florida. If it’s monster offshore pelagics you seek, winter offers some of our best fishing. Take your boat or book a charter out of Stuart, Fla.—aka “The Sailfish Capital of the World”—and you are sure to land a sailfish, a bucket list fish for many. Mahi, cobia, kingfish and wahoo will also be biting. Our average January high of 74 degrees will also quickly quench your thirst for warmer weather.

North of Palm Beach, we do a lot of trolling, and south you’ll find live baiting very popular, so don’t forget your sabiki rod. No boat? No problem. We have multiple beach-access points where you can catch your fill of Pompano, whiting, bluefish, snook and more, maybe even a permit or bonefish. In Martin County, check out Stuart Beach, Hobe Sound Beach and Tiger Shores. Excellent jetties and piers include Juno Pier, Ft. Pierce Inlet and Sebastian Inlet, where I recently limited out on redfish one day and caught an inshore slam the next! Fishing off the beach, a “pompano rig” will catch a ton of species and even cut bait on the bottom with a pyramid sinker will work. For lures, I like topwaters in the morning and after that I throw lipped crankbaits and paddletail swimbaits. Regarding inshore saltwater, I love fishing from the Saint Lucie Inlet north to Ft. Pierce. Under the docks and along the mangroves you will find snook, redfish and trout, as well as flounder and drum in deeper holes and channels. If you can’t find any mullet to net, a simple live shrimp and a bobber will catch everything and anything. If you do not have a boat, walk the shoreline for some incredible wade fishing. I caught my first snook wading the docks in Ft. Pierce many years ago. Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about you bass guys! Our incredible bass fishing this time of year starts with the largemouth spawn and plenty of crappie on Lake Okeechobee. I also love Camp Mack in Lake Wales, Fla. Mix up your freshwater game with abundant exotic species fisheries featuring clownknife fish, peacock bass, hybrid bass and even the bullseye snakehead. You will catch exotics in any of the Lake Clarke, Lake Osborne or Lake Ida chains in Palm Beach County. If you have any questions, Google “Darcizzle Offshore” to find my Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, website, podcast and e-mail to drop me a note.

chooling fish action will continue until the water temperatures cool down. As you travel the Bay, watch for diving birds indicating large bait pods and feeding fish. You can set up a drift near the activity. Or, if you prefer, anchor up and hang a couple of chum bags over the side. If you’re using live sardines, you can scatter some around the area and cut some up in the current around the boat. Cobia and sharks also show up around an anchored boat with chum bags over the side. So, be

prepared and have a larger rig ready to toss a small pinfish or more substantial greenback to any passing cobia or shark. Spotted sea trout are still catch and release only and will show up in good numbers as we get some cooler weather. The cooler water temps should start attracting the bigger “gator” trout to the shallower grass flats during the warmer part of the day. Target them on sandy potholes on broken bottom grass flats throughout Tampa Bay. The beautiful thing about

seatrout is that they like artificial lures, sometimes as much as live bait. Try a topwater lure early in the morning, especially as the sun breaks the horizon, then try switching to soft plastics later in the morning. Remember, live shrimp hooked in the carapace under a popping cork always catches seatrout. The snapper bite continues, and sheepshead should start picking up as the waters begin cooling. Sheepshead and mangrove snapper will start pushing onto the grass flats. You can also look for them in the deepwater creeks, canals and the many rivers opening into the Tampa Bay area. Tampa Bay has plenty of deep and shallow water rock piles and artificial reefs All of which hold plenty of sheepshead, snapper and grunts this time of year. Fish with pieces of shrimp or small crabs and remember, once hooked, they are all spirited fish having terrific power for their size. Snook are still catch and release only and the bite has been okay through November. However, as the water temperatures start dropping, the bite might tend to slow down. You can still catch this wily, sometimes unpredictable, fish. Start looking in different places. Snook will migrate to areas with more tolerable water temperatures. As the water temperatures drop, their metabolisms slow considerably, and they tend to exert only enough energy to catch food. Use greenbacks and jumbo shrimp during cold water temperatures. Bridges, docks and deepwater structure results in a decent snook bite during cold water times. Redfish are still catch and release only. Live greenbacks, dollar-size pinfish, shrimp and cut baits will catch plenty of reds. The redfish action should continue into the colder months. Artificial lures are always

productive and loads of fun when fished around mangroves, oyster bars and open water grass flats. Topwater or soft plastics on light jigheads are your best bet. Flounder is another Tampa Bay winter species and undoubtedly one of the besttasting fish we have! Larger groups of flounder will move onto sandy areas and broken bottom potholes throughout Tampa Bay this time of year. Target them in potholes and creek mouths with substantial tidal flows. Use the same rigs for flounder that you use for sheepshead. Captain Woody Gore’s Guide Service: The area’s top-notch outdoor fishing guide service. A BIRTHDAY FOR THE BOOKS BY: CAPT. JOHN RIVERS

t’s 7:30 am, and I’m tossing the net to get bait for the day’s adventure. The deck of the boat is littered with seagrass and muck from throwing the net on the flats. After a few minutes of clean up, the boat looks like new again and the bait well is full of

frisky baits--I am raring to go. It was June 24th, and I was turning 52 years old. I went fishing with my buddy Ron, a childhood friend of mine from Indiana, who moved to Tampa just two years ago. We had some great times growing up in the

Midwest, and were ready to experience some unforgettable fishing Florida style. What I didn’t know that morning was that today would be a birthday for the books! The day started out slow, as the tides were not perfect, but I wanted to fish on my birthday. We had a small incoming tide that day, not much water moving. I like a lot of water moving when fishing for snook, reds and even trout. If I had my choice, I’d fish an incoming tide, but as long as the tide is moving, I’m pretty satisfied. We stopped off at our first spot. Mullet were jumping off in the distance and I could hear the sound of ospreys chirping above our heads, looking for a morning meal. Ron was first to hook up with a nice 22-inch snook. A few minutes later, I hooked up with one about the same size. We caught a few more over the next 20 minutes, and then the bite slacked off. We had to move around to find fish, and it was one here one there, but not very consistent. The tide was starting to slow, and I was beginning to worry that it was just going to be an okay trip, which was fine, because we were having fun talking about old times. And, really, any time fishing is a good time for me. So, with the tide nearing its peak, I moved to fish an area that had a bit of a drop off near a flat that had current. It turned out to be a good move, but I didn’t realize how good at first. Ron again hooked up first with a nice snook around 25 inches, followed by me with one just 18 inches. Then I had this little voice tell me to grab my bigger rod, my Bull Bay 7’6” Med Heavy Rod rigged with a 4000 Shimano Stradic. The area I was fishing had some structure, so I wanted to be sure to use a rod and reel combo that would help me keep my catch from getting tangled up. I reached into the live well and grabbed the biggest live pilchard I had, put the bait on my 4/0 Gamakatsu circle hook and tossed it out. It didn’t take long until my bait started to get

nervous. It jumped out of the water twice, and then I heard a loud splash of snook busting the bait and my line came tight, the rod bent over and the drag started to scream that sweet sound. I knew this would be a doozy. She raised her head out of the water and thrashed with all her might. My heart started to beat faster and my legs even shook a bit. It was the biggest snook I’ve ever had on, and I didn’t want to lose her. She ran straight for the structure and wrapped me up. I pulled as hard as I could and, somehow, I managed to turn her head. She came out and ducked under the boat, then back out and again under the boat. It was a tug of war, but after a battle that seemed to last forever, she was in the boat. What a monster--39 inches long, and she was wide, too. We took a few pics and then I released her, taking my time with her to make sure she swam off healthy. I wanted to make sure she would be able to celebrate many more birthdays after giving me one of my best birthdays ever. Capt. FLY FISHING REPORT BY: GABE LITTLEFIELD

F

or most, December brings images of Santa, catchy songs and cooler weather. To a fish head such as myself, I think of strong winds, low tides and hungry fish. As fly anglers, we are faced with the challenge of wind that can make our coveted time on the water a nightmare. In the following, we’ll discuss some ways to make the most of the chilly December days here in Tampa Bay. The first tip for being successful this time of year is to strategically plan your outings. Check wind and tide, and let that dictate your game plan. With cooler weather approaching, we begin to see stronger north winds battering us fly anglers. If the wind is strong, plan to fish the protected areas on the southern side of your hunting grounds. The back creeks and bays that litter the Upper Bay are

perfect for dodging gusts and avoiding gray hairs. With the tides creeping into the negatives, fishing for our traditional species shifts, and can confuse anglers, leaving you with an empty camera roll and a long ride home. Use the low water to your advantage. Combined with the wind, your typical flat can become a desert before you know it. This makes finding fish much easier due to the lack of hiding spots. Under these conditions, you’ll find reds, snook and large speckled trout laying in the troughs, cuts, pockets and channels that can be found on the flats. While locating these fish can be simple, catching them can prove to be a tougher challenge. Clear water, cooler temperatures and limited shelter can leave fish weary and sluggish. For fly anglers, this is a tough combination. For me, the best approach to be successful is to hop out and wade these knee-toankle deep areas and try to spot fish. Polarized glasses are a must for this situation. Look for any silhouette that looks strange and give it a shot. You may be rewarded with a healthy red or, even better, a “gator” sea trout. As for fly selection, smaller whitish baitfish patterns like peanuts or kwans in pinks, whites, tans and browns work best for me. If you are fortunate enough to

hook and land a large sea trout, please remember to treat them carefully. Fish over 20 inches are mostly female and provide Tampa Bay with the future population of the nation’s favorite inshore gamefish. Wet hands, lip grips and quick pictures are recommended. As always, Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

WINTER IS A PERFECT TIME FOR THE BEACH AND FOR COLLECTING SEASHELLS BY: AMANDA NALLEY

W

hen most people think of Florida’s sandy beaches, they think warm, sunny summer. But what the locals already know is that winter at the beach has tons to offer. The sand and water may be cold, but it’s a perfect time for looking for seashells. Maybe it’s because less people are on the beach, or maybe it’s the cold weather and winter storms washing them ashore, but the beach always seems full of seashells and other great finds during the

winter months. As a former island dweller, seashells have become an integral part of my home decorating scheme. They make great containers for Q-tips, candles and jewelry. Some act as decoration atop a cabinet, while others have been turned into craft projects such as a necklace or windchime. Little jars of sharks’ teeth collected throughout the years are tucked away. I even have a shell from my daughter’s first trip to the beach, labeled with the date. A little

reminder of paradise. While collecting is fun, leaving behind seashells and other marine organisms can also benefit our beaches, which is why I always limit what I take. Shells provide protection for creatures such as hermit crabs and can be hiding places for small fish. They also help stabilize beaches and anchor seagrass. But if you do want to take home a few souvenirs, it’s important to know there are some rules when it comes to recreational seashell collection on Florida’s beaches. The major thing to keep in mind when you are collecting is, if it’s dead, it most likely is OK to keep. Do not keep anything that is federally protected (i.e. sea turtles, sawfish or parts thereof). If a seashell has a living organism inside it or is a living organism (think sand dollars and starfish), you must have a Florida saltwater fishing license (unless exempt) and you must adhere to state and local limits for that species. It’s also good to know that there are a few species prohibited

from harvest, such as the Bahama starfish and live queen conch. You may collect queen conch shells when the shells do not contain any living queen conch at the time of collection. Special rules also apply if you are collecting in Lee or Manatee counties. To learn more about FWC’s regulations on recreational seashell collecting, visit MyFWC.com/ Marine and click on “Recreational Regulations” and “Sea Shells.” For a fishing license, visit GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.

CAPT. SERGIO’S CORNER:

WHAT CHRISTMAS MEANS TO ME

BY: CAPT. SERGIO ATANES Now having said all of this, December brings many surprises to anglers of Tampa Bay and it all depends on the weather. If it’s a warm month, we can count on large schools of redfish around the many mangrove islands and trout on the shallow flats. A warm month can keep many species such as mackerel and cobia in our bay waters which are usually gone by mid-November. A cold December is a different story. Look for redfish Sean Jr. and dad with a nice redfish caught fishing under a dock. around deep water hristmas has many meanings for each one docks. Use live shrimp with a 1/0 circle hook of us. It’s family time with our relatives, the and a small split shot about six inches from the kids are home from college and a good time to hook. This keeps the bait close to the bottom bond with old friends. Christmas is also a time where the water is warmer and the fish are most to thank God for our health, family and giving active. Flounder is another species you can count us such a great country we live in with freedom.

C

on around docks this time of year. For flounder, I prefer using a small jig head with a small live shrimp hooked through the tail (not the head) and dragged along the bottom. Cast the jig towards the shoreline parallel to the dock and bounce it along the bottom until you reach the front of the dock. Continue this method on both sides of the dock going from one dock to another. This allows you to cover the entire area around a dock where the flounder are waiting on their prey. Snook would have made their way up the rivers and creeks looking for warmer water. Remember that snook slow down on their bite this time of year. Cut bait works great on the bottom. Live medium shrimp with the tail cut off is another great bait to use. I prefer to use a small split shot to keep the bait on the bottom. In many cases I will work the shrimp along the edges of the river or creek bed where the snook are most likely to be waiting for food. Warm water outflow from the different power plants will be another heaven for snook, cobia, trout and sharks. The best time to fish the outflow is just before sunrise to about 11 am. As the sun gets higher in the sky, the fish tend to move to the mouth of the hot water outflow. I suggest you start as close as you can

You will need to drop down on the size of your leader and tackle to help increase the bite. I notice in cold water months, I have to down size my leader. In some cases, down to 15 pounds in order to get the fish to bite. I would start with 25-pound test fluorocarbon leader and work down from there until you find what’s working for you. The lighter leader means you have to take a little more time in fighting

the fish, but the increase on the number of bites is well worth it. Sheepshead will be making their entry into Tampa Bay to spawn as the water temperature drops. This I will cover in next month’s issue. Captain Sergio Atanes is host of Florida West Coast Fishing Report on Facebook and YouTube. He is also host to Aventuras De Pesca USA on national TV and Radio. Capt. Sergio Atanes can be reached at (813) 973-7132 or www.reelfishy.com

TALES FROM THE TUPPERWARE NAVY BY: BRUCE BUTLER

W

elcome back yak fans. This month I’m taking us up to Yankeetown, located north of Crystal River, just above the Barge Canal and the Withlacoochee River. This area is a kayaker’s dream. Yankeetown was founded in 1923 by Armanis F. Knotts from northern Indiana-also known as AF Knotts. He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives as well as being instrumental in the founding of Gary, Indiana. As you know, I really

enjoy doing these kinds of stories. You never know what you may learn as you dig in. Also, as to two other things near and dear to my heart-bait shops and food. For the first, Captains Cove outfitters on 40 just past the light has a great shop with a full line of bait and tackle, helpful staff and spot on fishing reports (As they say everybody there is a fisherman). So, if you head that way, stop in and tell them I said “Hey.” As to food, I was going by the Shrimp Landing restaurant at 5:30 am and saw they were open. So, next trip I’ll be stopping In. But, back to fishing. Remember, this is a column about kayak fishing in case you forgot,

LOL. Yankeetown offers several put ins, both on the Withlacoochee and the Gulf side. On the River side, you have Allen Park. This was a little hard to find and locals have warned me about leaving a vehicle there, so be warned. Another, just before Yankee town at the end of the Barge Canal, you drive out to the end of that road and there is a little launch from which you can reach the river or the power plant outflow (but that’s a bit of a paddle). Going out toward the boat ramp on the right, you have Bird Creek Park. Both of these areas are best to fish on an incoming tide and, by the time you read this, the monster black drum should be stacking up at the outside of the river--I’ll be going back soon. The last trip I took was to Bird Creek Park and paddled back toward Pumpkin Island. My client was working a fast-moving cut with a Gulp Mantis Shrimp on a jig head and soon had his limit of trout. I was working a top water, the Zara Spook Jr in bone silver, (like that’s a surprise to those of you who read my stuff) around the grass islands and a monster red came up and snatched it. After fighting for a minute, he headed straight for the grass and I’m thinking, not again. Into the grass he went, as my leader goes thumping through and he comes out the other side. I’m trying to figure out how that spook didn’t get caught in the grass, but he didn’t give me much time to reflect as he came straight at me, and under the yak He went. I don’t lose the lure or the fish. Now I’m really confused! I finally worked him into deeper water and, after about five minutes, I get the answer to my question. The reason I didn’t get hung up was because it wasn’t there. Mr. red swallowed the whole thing! As I peered down and saw the spook, sideways no less and just above the crusher plates. I’m wondering how I’ll ever get it back out, but a pair of forceps came through and, with only a bloody lip from the leader, five minutes later he swam away. We caught some more reds and a few black drum and had two really heavy break offs. At the end of the day my client had his limit and a fun day on the water. HERNANDO COUNTY

LAST CALL BY: CAPT. JOEL GANT

T

hat’s right, it’s last (month) call for catching the gag grouper. In between the cold fronts, and with it rough water, the endless pursuit for the allusive grouper continues. The season to be able to keep gag grouper ends on December 31st. With the cooler waters, they can also be caught shallower. From 6 to 30 feet, these hardfighting fish can put a workout on you and your equipment. I like to use, at a minimum, 4/0 conventional reel with 60-pound Ande mono line, 3 to 4-pound egg weight, strong leader and a 7/0 hook. Baits to use are live baits (pinfish, pigfish or white bait), frozen baits (threadfins, sardines, mullet or squid) or fresh cut baits. Allow the bait to sit on the bottom and not bouncing. Once you feel some hard taps, let the fish take the bait and set the circle hook themselves and then reel reel reel. Circle hooks are mandatory for reef fish and if you try to set the hook, most times, you will pull the bait out of their mouth. While fishing for grouper, I like to fish with a lighter setup and try to catch snappers and grunts. This keeps everyone busy while waiting for a grouper bite. I like to use a rod holder at these times, it will never get excited and try to set the hook. On a recent trip while bottom fishing, we

caught some really big bull sharks and a lot of Spanish mackerel. Putting out a chum block will also help get the fish excited. For the inshore fishermen, look for some bull redfish to move in from offshore. This time of year, is when the big ones come inshore for the spawn. You will need heavier gear to land them--the tackle you use for slot reds may be too light. Choosing 30-pound braid and 30-pound leader will help in landing these bruisers. Live pinfish, shrimp or cut baits should entice them into biting. Trout will also be more inside the flats with the waters getting cooler. Shrimp on a strike indicator can be a great offering-artificials will also work. Get out there on the water and make some memories. with friends and family! Capt. SKINNY WATER REPORT SOMETHING DIFFERENT

BY: DERICK BURGOS

I

did something a little different for today’s charter with Jay Johnson. He had mentioned to me that he had heard about certain salt water species being caught in fresh water ponds and asked if I could make it happen. As always, I accepted the challenge. I chose to fish some areas I’ve had a lot of luck with in the Hillsborough River. This is Hillsborough County’s largest river system that runs from the Green Swamp area out to Tampa Bay via Downtown. That’s about a 59 mile stretch through some of the county’s most precious landscape. Many species of fish thrive here including various panfish, snook, largemouth bass, catfish, bowfin and on the other side of the dam (located inside Rowlett

Park), snook, tarpon, redfish and more. It didn’t take long for us to find fish, but getting them to bite was a different story. We spotted huge gar and bass that paid no attention to anything Matt had to offer. This went on for two hours before the first strike. As soon as the trusty pumpkin finesse worm hit the water, a small bass hammered it, but it came loose. The hook set gave Jay hope and motivated him to stay focused on landing a fish. The wind found us, so we moved on toward a small pond attached to the river that would offer protection, but that wasn’t all. Jay dug deep with the Stickminnow 70 through some thick vegetation and, within minutes, was rewarded with his personal best bass at 22 inches! Congrats buddy! It was all downhill after that. He even let me get in on the action! Yet another productive day on the water for us at PFW. Many fish were caught, missed and seen. The waxing Moon and the upcoming cold

front will be a deadly combo to fire up these fish. Be on the lookout for nice low sodium fish to be caught before the fronts. Good luck and we’ll see you on the water! ooking for a great way to beat the cooler temps and wind of December? Try fishing the five incredible rivers that feed Tampa Bay. It’s a great place to spend all your winter time on the water and catch a lot of fish. These rivers, the Alafia, Palm, Hillsborough, Little Manatee and Manatee, all offer great winter time fishing for all kinds of saltwater species. They also provide a perfect place to hide from winter’s breezy and cooler conditions. Snook take refuge in the rivers where freshwater springs, dark bottoms and deep channels provide a safe zone from chilly water temps. As water temps cool down, snook tend to change their eating habits and save their energy for battling the cold. But, plenty of action can be had by slowing down the presentation of your hard baits, soft plastics and by fishing live shrimp. Live Shrimp are much easier to digest than a sardine or finger mullet and will often be the food of choice this time of year. Snook aren’t the only action to be had up the rivers though. Speckled trout usually stage near the mouth of the rivers in the deeper holes and they are very cold water tolerant and can offer hours of steady action. Artificial lures such as the Mirro-Lure Lil John, Marsh Minnow’s and Strike King’s Trout Magic rig all work well for trout action in the rivers. Use a ¼ ounce jig head to work the deep holes slowly.

You’ll also find the Redfish action steady with some great dock fishing in all five of these river systems. Redfish, especially 17 to 23 inchers, seem to be creatures of habit in these rivers. Once you find a line of docks that hold good numbers of redfish in the winter, it seems to hold true every year. You’ll also find good numbers of ladyfish and jacks in the rivers this time of year, which adds to the action of the day. Water temps will be key, as anything south of 70 degrees will push fish well into the rivers. Don’t let the cooler windy conditions of winter mess up your fishing plans. Find refuge in these five Florida river systems and you’ll be rewarded all winter long with amazing fishing! Catch Capt. Michael Anderson every Saturday for Reel Animals Saturday on 970WFLA from 6:00am to 8:00am and Sunday mornings on AM620 for the TA Mahoney Co. T

he fronts have arrived and the water temperature has declined. This is the time of year that you should break out your artificials and start stalking your favorite inshore fish at the lower tides. When the negative tides arrive, like they have, you don’t always need a boat to go catch trophy fish. There are plenty of areas to drop a kayak in or, even better, wade fish! Your best bet is chasing redfish and gator trout at the last hour or so of the outgoing tide. Start walking slowly and keep an eye out for bigger schools of mullet grouped together. You should find your gator trout and redfish mixed in with them. I use a bigger/heavier bait while throwing through the mullet schools. This keeps my distance from them, but it lets the bait reach your desired area. A couple of baits I like to use during this time is the Rapala Skitterwalk for topwater and then a weedless bait called “The Slick Lure.” They both produce great casting distance along with great fish production. Another thing to add to the arsenal during this time is bait scents. Add either a shrimp or ladyfish Pro-Cure bait scent to your artificial. This will enhance your chances of a bite. While casting through these schools of mullet, keep an eye out for tailing redfish. They are feeding like crazy this time of year in the open flat and there’s

nothing better than sight casting a tailer! Remember they will still spook, even if they have their head buried in the grass feeding. Make long casts and work the bait slow for your best shot at them! As far as the deeper water goes, cobia have been the talk around town. Find the stronger moving tides along with some structure. Throw out a couple of chum blocks and set your baits at different depths in the water column. This will not only produce cobia, but will have the kingfish, grouper and snapper firing off as well. I like using 80-pound leader and a 6/0 circle hook just in case you do get a grouper that wants to pull you into the rocks. If you do run a free line bait out of the back of the boat, you might consider a thin wire leader. That way it only improves your chances at landing Spanish mackerel and kingfish. The bait of choice this time of year seems to have been frozen threadfins and pinfish. Sometimes, the fish are feeling lazy. They tend to go after the threads more so then a live bait. Whatever your bait of choice is, just make sure you’re ready for a good time! To book a charter with Captain Bobby Carroll and the Florida Fishing Experience please call (727) 271-3257

tone crab season is upon us. This is my favorite food, and I love the Fall season as well. There are many ways to serve this delicious delicacy, but the one I use is a favorite among those who eat them cold and freshly cracked. Let me say, I purchase mine not cracked until we are ready to eat them. I also do not purchase them frozen, because the meat will stick to the shell. This can be a messy meal or treat. But, to me and my family, it is well worth the mess. We put down newspaper and get the roll of paper towel to put on the table. So, I will give you the recipe that we use with the

• 1 tbsp. plus ½ tsp. of dried Coleman’s mustard powder. If this is not available, any mustard powder will do. • 1 cup of good mayonnaise • 2 tsp. of Worcestershire sauce • 2 tbsp. of heavy cream (this can also be optional if you want a thinner sauce) • 2 tbsp. (milk if not using cream, use 4 tbsp.) • Pinch of salt • Mix all ingredients together until creamy If you like the mustard powder and the tangy flavor, you can add a pinch more - - just taste before doing so. Enjoy!

RIVERS TO BAY REPORT BY: CAPT. JOHN RIVERS

D

ecember in Tampa Bay is known for great trout fishing, fun sheepshead fishing and even the fair-weather snook, which have moved up into the rivers. Redfish are still milling through the flats, docks and ledges along drop offs. We get a lot of cold fronts this time of year, and you have to pick your days to fish in between the fronts, or you’re going to be fishing on a windy day. However, the advantage to fishing Tampa Bay is that even when it’s blowing out, you have many areas to hide behind the mangroves or just go up in the rivers to have a very productive day on the water. Just make sure you’re bundled up but, then again, you never know what the temperature is going to be in December here. I’ve worn shorts on Christmas day on Tampa Bay, so each year is different. When we get a strong

cold front, it usually takes the fish a day or two to adjust if the water temps drop more than a few degrees. The bait should be still around on the flats or on the markers, which is a plus, but sometimes when it gets really cold, it can be hard to find. I always have a backup plan, and wintertime is when I may have to change the strategy for how I’m going to catch these fish. I will typically have a livewell full of frisky shrimp for the sheepshead and other species if I’ve been having trouble finding the bait. But, since I really enjoy tossing artificials, December is a great time to do that. The nice thing about wintertime fishing is that you don’t have to start out at daylight and, sometimes it’s actually better to let the sun heat things up, which is when the fish become more active. The sheepshead love the cooler temps, but just make sure you have moving water. I like the first two hours of either the outgoing or incoming tides. Trout will definitely be on as well, and I recommend either live shrimp or soft plastics (4 inch paddle tails on a 1/4oz jig). Again, pursue snook up in the rivers and, if you bring a live well of pilchards, you’ll keep the rod bent all day. Lastly, stop

SOUTH SHORE TAMPA BAY REPORT BY: CAPT. CHRISTOPHER TAYLOR

D

ecember is known for its change in weather, and trout. There are many estuaries to choose from in Tampa Bay that are holding good numbers of trout willing to eat anything in front of them. The trout being caught are averaging anywhere from 15 to 20 inches, and many fish 25 to 30 inches are being brought to the boat. With the month of November having an epic start, I estimate the trout bite to continue into January. Target areas for catching these fish are mangrove lines and grass flats adjacent to any good span of mangroves or light structure--preferably fishing the mangrove lines during higher tides and grass flats on lower tides. Finding moving water is key to locating fish. Still water will hold fish; however, I find that many fish looking to eat are in areas of moving tides. When it comes to fishing for

trout, you must remain stealthy in your approach and pay close attention to the activity presented to you on the water’s surface. I make it a good habit of noting any disturbance on top of the water. I wear a pair of polarized sunglasses to reduce the glare on the water and spot fish. Wearing polarized sunglasses can also help locate pot holes that may hold fish, as well as, “swash channels” (small lines made into the bottom from current flow). Fish often use these swash channels as a pathway to venture on the length of a shallow flat. Choice baits for trout this month are scaled sardines and live shrimp. I present these baits free-lined with a 2/0 to 3/0 hook on 25 to 30-pound fluorocarbon leader. For artificial baits, the Highwater Fishing Lures in a “Hot to Trot” color pattern have been working well on a 1/4 oz jig head. When determining where to soak your baits, anchor your boat. Or, drift in any of the areas mentioned before, depending on the tide and where the most water is moving. Be patient, you may have to wait for the bite to start picking up. However, when it does the wait is well worth the effort. Captain Christopher Taylor Florida Reels Fishing Charters www.floridareelsfishingcharters.com (813) 220-6135

ST. PETE REPORT WATER TEMP IS DROPPING

BY: CAPT. ANTHONY CORCELLA

T

he first big cold front of the season has finally ushered in the Fall and lower water temps. This has the fishing on fire. The inshore and nearshore bite is in full swing. Reds, snook, trout, flounder, snapper and sheepshead are best bets inshore, and snapper, grouper, mackerel and kingfish near shore and on the reefs in the bay. It’s possible to have a shot at all of the species on one full day trip. The low tides in the mornings are a perfect time to target the inshore bite, as the fish will be stacked up in the deeper potholes and channels surrounding the flats. Whitebait is still around and works like magic, and a freelined live shrimp is a go-to bait. Cut bait like threadfins, pinfish and ladyfish will catch all of the inshore species except for the sheepshead. If you’re targeting sheepshead and snapper around the docks, rockpiles or bridges, live shrimp is a safe bet. Cut shrimp has its days, so always have a few dozen fresh dead on board--even if you don’t bring live. For the lure fisherman, it’s the peak time of year. They all will work--topwaters, jigs and spoons, subsurface, all of them. As the tide comes in and scatters the fish, it’s a good time to check the inshore and near-shore rockpiles that are scattered throughout the Bay. Gray snapper, mangroves, sheepshead and gags are stacked up on the structure, the shipping channel, and around most of the towers. Live pinfish and whitebait are best bets, as is cut threadfins and live or frozen shrimp. Cobia are a welcome addition

to the party and tripletail will be around the markers and buoys, too. The mackerel, both king and Spanish, will be around the bait schools. Look for the birds and the macks will be there. For Spanish, live whitebait and shrimp are a safe bet. Small silver spoons or Gotcha lures will provide steady action, too. If targeting kingfish, slow trolling a live blue runner, sardine or ladyfish on a stinger rig is a proven technique. A spoon or diving plug trolled on a planer is also a tried and true method for the hard bait crowd. The areas around the skyway are top mackerel and kingfish grounds. t’s the holiday season, a time of giving and good cheer, and divers are as ready as any to participate. One source of good cheer is supporting good causes. Humanitarian causes are typically linked to this season, but we can feel good about aiding organizations focused on our diving environment, too. A number of worthy organizations stand ready to put your aid to good use. This year, on the humanitarian front, there’s a special cause for divers to consider. Hurricane Dorian did a number on Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands. The devastation has dropped out of the news cycle, but their needs will be great well into the future. The Bahamian government maintains a webpage listing relief organizations at www.bahamas.com/relief. While donations are a major component of the relief effort, restoring jobs is also essential. If you want to boost your spirits along with the local economy, try a winter dive vacation to Grand Bahama. Its major dive operations are back up, and flights to Fort Lauderdale and other international airports should have resumed. Restoration of Abaco’s services will lag Grand Bahama’s, but the islands should offer

great adventures for the more self-reliant. Of the many marine-focused organizations, here are several that Florida divers might consider: Probably the best-known diver-oriented nonprofit is Reef Environmental Education Network, based in Key Largo. Check out R.E.E.F.’s website (www.reef.org) but plan on a lengthy visit. Their “quizlets” will hook you if you’re into fish-ID. Coral propagation is an important tool in restoring disease-damaged reefs. The Coral Restoration Foundation (www.coralrestoration.org) has focused primarily on growing elkhorn and staghorn corals to replace stands wiped out in the 1980s. Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium (mote.org/research/program/coral-reef-restoration) is working with brain and boulder corals, with the goal of repairing reefs hit by the new disease outbreaks from Martin County down into the Florida Keys. Are sea turtles your thing? Two long-established local organizations are the Loggerhead Marinelife Center (marinelife.org) and the National Save The Sea Turtle Foundation (savetheseaturtle.org), which now hosts the Florida Hawksbill Project (www.floridahawksbills.com). In addition to collecting nesting and tracking data, Loggerhead operates a turtle hospital. NSSTF funds turtle research projects, including several at Florida Atlantic University. There are more ways to offer support than giving organizations cash. Check off your gift list while supporting your favorite cause. Check out their online stores. Apparel, books, toys—they’re all there. Save the Sea Turtle even offers subscriptions to “Florida Environmental Outreach” for a gift that gives all year. You can spread the holiday cheer close to home, too. Pura Vida Divers is participating again in the Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade and supporting the Toys for Tots donation drive. Every new, unwrapped toy you donate at the shop earns you 20 percent off in-store items and a raffle ticket for Pura Vida’s Holiday Party on Dec. 13. This year, pick a cause and support it. rowing up, I used corks a lot, usually to know when a bream had taken my little dough ball when I was fishing in my backyard. Later, I used them to keep track of lively white bait or aid in casting shrimp farther. Now days, I use them more as a dinner bell than anything else. I am also using them in much deeper water than you would ever expect, but here you need a little patience.

If you’ve fished the flats in saltwater, you have probably used a popping cork and a shrimp at some point. Giving your rod a sharp tug to make the cork pop always seemed to liven up the action. Well, the same can be done in deep water to help hungry reds find your meal offering. The really cool thing about this is it works with conventional tackle as well as fly setups. The concept is pretty simple, a popping cork with about 20 inches of mono out of the bottom tied to large swimbait or fly. We use them around large schools of bait that are being worked over by breeding-sized reds. “Pop it hard and wait at least 10 seconds. You know it’s deep here and it will take at least that long for the fish to find it,” said Capt. Gary Dubiel. He should know since he invented the Pop N Fly technique. The key is to make a huge pop with a lot of noise and then pause. The deeper the water, the longer you wait. The fish are in constant movement around enormous schools of bait. When they hear what seems to be another fish feeding, they come running to get their share. But it might take a minute. You want to make sure your bait gets straight down below the cork, as well as giving the fish plenty of time to locate it before popping again. On average, wait 8 to 10 seconds in 14 feet of water, longer if the water is deeper. It is also nice that you don’t need live bait for this technique because it saves time at first light, making it easy to run and gun on large schools of bait. For tackle, a medium weight spinning rod with plenty of 20- or 30-pound braid will do the trick. On the fly, you will want a 10 weight to cast the rig and plenty of backing. Below the cork, your fly or swimbait will slowly sink down looking like a stunned or wounded baitfish that seemingly escaped a vicious attack… aka an easy meal. Pop and be patient, the strikes are basically unremarkable; the cork just disappears. But the fight of these 40-plus-pound beasts on light tackle or a fly rod is much more noteworthy. Will Schmidt is a seasoned tournament angler who has been writing about fishing for two decades. Reach Capt. Dubiel at (252) 249-1520.

FWC has approved several draft rule changes for spotted seatrout. Based on public comment, the Commission also directed staff to continue considering public input and update the proposal as needed prior to bringing this back at a future meeting for final approval.

Approved draft changes include:

• Splitting the Northwest spotted seatrout management zone into two separate zones including the Western Panhandle (Escambia County through most of Gulf County, not including Indian Pass/Indian Lagoon) and the Big Bend (Franklin County, plus Indian Lagoon, through Fred Howard Park Causeway in Pinellas County). • Moving the boundary between the southern management zones to create the newly-renamed South Florida zone (Fred Howard Park Causeway in Pinellas County near the Pasco County line through Broward County) and Central East zone (Palm Beach through Volusia counties). • Reducing bag limits - Western Panhandle: five to three fish - Big Bend: five to four fish - South Florida: four to three fish - Central East: four to two fish - Northeast: six to five fish • Modifying the recreational slot size limit from 15-to-20 inches to 15-to-19 inches total length.

• Allowing one seatrout over 19 inches per vessel (currently, per harvester). • Changing the current daily commercial limits to 50 per harvester and 100 per vessel. • Prohibiting captain and crew from keeping a bag limit on a for-hire trip. • Re-establishing the February recreational closure in the Western Panhandle zone and the November-December recreational closure in the Central East zone. Provide online comments about these draft changes at MyFWC.com/SaltwaterComments.

F

rog fishing is one of the most exciting ways to catch the largemouth bass that ambush feed in grass-choked reservoirs of the South. Lake Seminole, on the Florida/Georgia border, is one of the best frog-fishing lakes in the country. If you ever get the chance to visit Seminole, do it. In the meantime, these tips and techniques may help on your local grass mats. My favorite hollow-body frogs are the Spro Bronzeye series. Spro Bronzeye frogs are built

around a Gamakatsu EWG double hook that is very strong and sticky sharp, which is needed for getting big bass out of heavy cover. They come three styles: Bronzeye Frog, Bronzeye POP and Bronzeye Shad. Each has a unique action that works great under different circumstances. The Bronzeye Frog 65 has a pointed nose that can be worked over and through the heaviest cover or in open water. It’s the frog I choose for covering water to find concentrations of bass under grass mats. As the grass starts to die under mats, it creates open pockets and perfect frogging conditions. When fishing a Bronzeye Frog 65, heavy braided line is a must. My choice is Cortland Master Braid for its durability and strength. I also prefer a high speed reel, at least 7:3:1 gear ratio mounted on a 7-foot, 2-inch to 7-foot, 6-inch heavy action rod with a fast tip and a lot of backbone to haul big bass out of cover. Make long casts across a flat and work the frog with a fast hopping action. Expect a blowup! This is a great technique for covering large expanses to find out where fish are holding. When you get a strike, be sure to pause before setting the hook. Also, when a missed strike occurs, reel the bait in as fast as possible and cast back past where the strike occurred. Work the frog slowly with slight twitches to move it side to side but not forward. The bass should key in on the bait and strike again. The Bronzeye Pop 60 has incredible attention-drawing power. Its concave nose allows you to fish slower with a popping of the rod tip. The frog remains in the strike zone longer and generates explosive strikes. Fish this frog around all types of cover from laydowns to docks, to grass lines and holes in grass beds. I prefer a 7-foot to 7-foot, 3-inch heavy action rod with a fast tip and a high-speed reel with 50- to 65-pound braided line, depending on the cover I’m fishing. The Bronzeye Spit Shad 65 has a spitting and gliding action. It can be fished anywhere you would want to throw a hard bait but can’t due to hangups. I fish lily pad fields with this bait. It comes through pads very well and allows faster fishing to cover more water. As for racing, Viens started locally at the New Smyrna Speedway and fell in love with the sport. After starting racedaysponsor.com and climbing the ranks, he found himself at the Daytona International Speedway racing before all of his friends and family. “My first time there was surreal,” Viens remembered, “definitely my favorite moment on the track.” One day, after fighting again with a rusted adjustable wrench trying to get the drainplug from his boat, Viens knew there had to be a better way. On one of the Nascar driver’s long walks, the idea for the Boat Gadget was born. Viens wanted an all-in-one boat tool that could truly be useful and not something that just sat in the garage. What came to fruition was one of the most useful tools on the market today. The Boat Gadget has more than 10 uses, including: 1) Molded notches for deck plates 2) Wine or canvas snap opener 3) Fishing line cutter 4) 30mm & 35mm gas cap key 5) T-bar drain plug crank 6) Bottle opener 7) Flat top drain plug tool 8) Flip top gas cap 9) Safety whistle 10) Square boat drain plug

Secrets of a Billionaire Revealed “Price is what you pay; value is what you get. Whether we’re talking about socks or stocks, I like buying quality merchandise when it is marked down.” — wisdom from the most successful investor of all time

W

e’re going to let you in on a secret. Billionaires have billions because they know value is not increased by an inflated price. They avoid big name markups, and aren’t swayed by flashy advertising. When you look on their wrist you’ll find a classic timepiece, not a cry for attention–– because they know true value comes from keeping more money in their pocket. We agree with this thinking wholeheartedly. And, so do our two-and-a-half million clients. It’s time you got in on the secret too. The Jet-Setter Chronograph can go up against the best chronographs in the market, deliver more accuracy and style than the “luxury” brands, and all for far, far less. $1,150 is what the Jet-Setter Chronograph would cost you with nothing more than a different name on the face. With over two million timepieces sold (and counting), we know a thing or two about creating watches people love. The Jet-Setter Chronograph gives you what you need to master time and keeps the superfluous stuff out of the equation. A classic in the looks department and a stainless steel power tool of construction, this is all the watch you need. And, then some. Your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed. Experience the Jet-Setter Chronograph for 30 days. If you’re not convinced you got excellence for less, send it back for a refund of the item price. Time is running out. Now CLIENTS LOVE that the secret’s out, we STAUER WATCHES… can’t guarantee this $29 chronograph will stick around long. Don’t overpay to be “The quality of their underwhelmed. Put a precision watches is equal to many chronograph on your wrist for that can go for ten times just $29 and laugh all the way the price or more.” to the bank. Call today! — Jeff from McKinney, TX
