There are advantages and disadvantages to both but to me the action and accomplishment of catching fish on artificials is far more satisfying. “
I believe there are areas and times to use live bait, but you have to commit to what you’re going to do that day and stick to it. This was an amazing day with a great group of guys and once again, one terrific fishing memory.
Winners:
Ladies came from as far away as Shalimar, FL to learn fishing and compete at the non-intimidating Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing Screamin’ Reels Tournament in Islamorada, FL, presented by Plantation Boat Mart & Marina, and hosted by the nonprofit Ladies Let’s Go Fishing Foundation (LLGF). The tournament kicked off on Friday at the Tavernier Elks Club, followed by a friendly fishing competition on Saturday and Sunday out of Islamorada. The women fished from private and charter boats on flat calm seas, where they caught a total of 220 fish.


“Screamin’ Reels is a different breed of tournament, where it’s game on for almost every legal offshore or inshore species in the sea. It’s perfect for novice or average anglers and those who have never caught a fish and had never even dreamed of entering a fishing tournament.”, commented Betty Bauman, LLGF Founder.
Cristiane Carvalho, second place offshore winner exclaimed, “This is the first time I have done something for myself, away from my husband and children. I never fished before and won!”
First Place Offshore: Lyn Gremonprez from Tavernier with a 11.95 lb. almaco jack on Plantation Boat Mart.
Second Place Offshore: Cristiane Carvalho from Miami with a 10.8 lb. mahi on First Choice.
Third Place Offshore: Teresa Pinner from Tavernier with a 10.3 lb. skipjack on Plantation Boat Mart.
First, Second and Third Place Inshore: Jessica Holbrook from Fort Myers, took all three awards with 35.5, 34 and 27 inch grouper releases on Blackwater Charters with Capt. Dylan Scoble.

$1,000 in prizes including Penn combos, art prints, shirts and more were presented on Sunday at Whale Harbor Marina.
August 12th, 2023 from 12 - 8 pm as the Sailfish Marina hosts its’ 8th Annual “Singer Island Spiny Lobsterfest.” This fun family friendly event will feature several Lobster Dishes, Live Entertainment, Art and Jewelry Vendors, Kids Activties, Water Slide, Silent Auction, Nautical Artists, Pet Costume Contest and so much more! Being held on our Tiki Lawn.
