Hello anglers, Summertime has finally arrived!! What’s even better is the mahi have been chewing. Lately, there have been some weed lines offshore that are absolutely massive. I don’t think that I have ever seen this many weed lines in all honesty, and even better, I don’t think I have seen as many dolphin as there are right now. My Dad and I went out on the boat multiple times to go for some dolphin this month and every time we went, the small dolphin were almost a nuisance to us. Everywhere we went, they would follow us and destroy our bait. The good thing is that if you can get away from the small dolphin, then there is likely a bigger one in the area that you can catch. The biggest one we got this month was a nice gaff-able 15-pounder that my friend and I got. This wasn’t a huge dolphin by any means, but it was still more than enough to provide us with a good dinner! Unfortunately, the majority of dolphin being caught are pretty small and undersized. However, mahi mahi are one of the fastest growing species of fish out there, hence why they are such a sustainable fishery. These fish can grow around 2 inches per week, meaning all these 15-to-20-inch dolphin that we are seeing could grow to be nice 10-to-15-pound fish within the next few months. Overall, I believe these next few months will bring some of the greatest dolphin fishing that we have had in a while.
