Not everyone, actually I believe most, can’t afford that new Corvette, or the Rolex Submariner as their everyday watch, nor the house on the Intercoastal with the 45-foot pro fisherman boat, but just because you don’t have a large budget doesn’t mean you can’t afford to protect yourself or family, especially in these times. There are the people out there that always thumb their noses at the cheaper firearms, but they do have their purpose and limitations. Having a cheap gun when you need it is always better than no gun. Now a $300 handgun or home defense shotgun is not the quality of a $600 firearm of the same type, but that cheaper firearm will work when you need it. The more expensive firearms are made to be used. Better parts, higher longevity of hard use, will be able to stand up to the outdoor elements better, a higher resale value, and tends to be a little more forgiving with cheaper ammo.

Realistic time. Most people are not going to put their gun through real hard range use, most people aren’t going to be outdoors with their firearm every day, and most folks aren’t going to resell it. The average shooter will not see or even realize a difference in their cheaper firearm at the range seeing how they probably will be lucky to go to the range once or twice a year.

If you don’t have that baller bank roll and want to be conservative on the price, the Taurus G3C 9mm pistol is one great all around pistol for the money, they can be had for around $300. Now, it’s no Glock or Smith and Wesson, but for any home defense situation it will work just fine.

If a shotgun is more your thing, then the Retay and Citadel line of home defense shotguns are in the exact same $300 price range and be just fine. You don’t have to spend a lot of money today to get yourself adequate protection, but you do have to understand that there are limitations, and you do get what you pay for. So, if you are not going to the range every weekend, or taking self-defense shooting classes every month, then you will be just fine with that budget friendly firearm; but do some research because there are some ones in that budget category that you definitely do not want.
