Arrow Selection is Key
One of the most key components in Archery are the arrows. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish in archery. Arrow selection is vital for the best outcome. For example in Target Archery based on the tournaments that you’re in you’re gonna want a certain diameter, a certain straightness, a certain weight that’s going to give you the best accuracy to score the most points same goes for bowhunters. The proper arrow set up, can deliver better penetration for more success in the field.
Arrows are made out of different materials. Their humble beginnings started as wood. They were crude and not the straightest, but they worked lot of recurve guys still shoot wood, because it feels more natural for them being instinctive shooters. Then arrows were made from aluminum. They were much straighter which helped them fly better. That straightness gave them better penetration than the wood did through animals. These days they are made out of carbon, which, by far has been the best out of the three! Carbon is straighter tougher, and more accurate. Carbon also allows you to be able to play with the weight of an arrow there are so many different variations of carbon arrows now you can get the right selection for exactly what you want to do weather you’re target shooting or hunting.
Carbon arrows also have different diameters, which is very important. These different sizes which range from 27 mm diameter all the way down to a 4 mm diameter allow you to make an arrow more fit for the job at hand. Hunters want to be able to have penetration so they can get into the vitals. Producing two holes in their prey puts more blood on the ground to recover their groceries! With that in mind, a bow hunter arrow set up would be either a small or micro diameter shaft, with more weight in the front of the arrow with a good vein variation to steer the Broadhead. This configuration will allow less drag which in turns gives deeper penetration for a better pass through! A 3D target archer’s arrow set up would look more like a 23 mm to a 27 mm diameter arrow with just a blunt tip and longer less profile veins. The bigger arrow structure will fly very very true, and will aid in a bigger surface area of contact, which will catch the target lines, aiding in more points.
Carbon arrows now also have so many variations of accessories, which allows them to be probably the most handy of all the variations of arrows. Accessories like inserts can cause more weight in the front of the arrow to your specifications so you don’t have to settle! There are a mass amount of different veins which are basically stabilization fins, that can be applied to these carbon shafts. There’s thousands of colors different sizes long, short, high profile, small profile, you name it it’s out there! Finally you have different variety of nocks. They are the component the allows the arrow to be attached to a bow string. Nocks come in a wide range of colors and sizes. They even have ones that light up so you can see where the arrow hit!
All in all arrows have made awesome changes since their first debut. Being now more customizable than ever, you can make your arsenal more precise and more accurate, which will make you more deadly as an archer.
